My parents and I stopeed here on the way home from Vegas. The food was reasonably priced and the staff was very friendly. Â I ordered a Reuben with sweet potato fries. Satisfying, but not something I'd go out of my way to find. The atmosphere made up for the food, though. Very clean and nicely decorated. Overall, a good experience. We even got free brownies!
Review Source:There is a good reason that this little cafe has been in business for 50+ years -- it has great food. Â In particular, it has an ongoing supply of superb homemade cobblers. Â The cafe opens very early in the morning, so it's the perfect breakfast stop heading north to San Francisco from an overnighter in Barstow enroute late from Vegas.
Review Source:Update 10/2009: Â Something changed here! Â Not for the better!
The chicken fried steak that used to be a hand breaded slab of real beef is now a pressed and formed something that looks like it was stacked in the freezer. The veggies were canned asparagus that were so overdone, they fell apart when forked. The two waitresses spent more time giggling with each other about boyfriends than attending to customers. Very disappointing... I won't go back. Â I think the chef or owner made some serious changes (for the worst). Â Someone please let me know when they work there way back to a great roadhouse.
This was my original review:
Not many places to stop and eat between Las Vegas and Bakersfield, but this place is really worth stopping for. Â My fried chicken was perfect... Â mashed potatoes were real... gravy was excellent... the green beans had big chunks of bacon in them and it came with delicious hot cornbread!
Very friendly staff... locals hanging out and good prices.
Unexpected wonderful find in the middle of nowhere. Â I'll stop everytime I go through Boron.
Local flavor to the max! Great food and small town hospitality. Stopped in here on the way home from Vegas. Like stepping back in time. The staff will make you feel right at home and serve you food that tastes like your grandmother was in the kitchen. There's not excuse not to stop in here if you ever find yourself in Boron.
