A total hole in the wall, but I was able to watch the Giants play in World Series game 2 here so I was a very happy camper.
The bartender was sweet and quick. Â Drink prices were super cheap. Â There were a bunch of TVs here and a couple of megatouch machines. Â The crowd here when I went (around 4PM/5PM Hawaiian Time) were mostly locals who had just gotten off of work. Â They seem to frequent Kainoa's daily. Â
Anyway, it was a cool spot to watch the game. Â I can't complain about cheap drinks and giggling at folks who don't understand the term "Fear the Beard". Â Too bad I didn't know you could bring food in with you! Â We were still stuffed from lunch, but it would have been fun to have something to nibble on while we watched the game.
My husband and I live at Sunset Beach and stop in for a beer from time to time during the early evening hours, before the youngsters (anyone under 30) take over. Â I can't really rate all the late-night excitement that goes on here, but I can rate the happy-hour excitement, which is very laid-back (and when you have to deal with H-1 traffic every day, trust me...you want laid-back!). Â It's a great place to kick back and unwind. Â Morgan, the bartender, is a pretty funny dude and can be quite entertaining. Â The beer is cold and inexpensive. Â There is a jukebox and I can actually get away with playing country music. Â The locals who frequent Kainoas truly have the Aloha spirit, which seems to be harder and harder to find these days. Â The one thing that would make me give it a higher star rating is if they served pu-pu's (I think there might be something in the works, but don't quote me). Â It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it's nice to have a little something to eat when you're drinking alcohol. Â Regardless, we will continue to stop in and have a beer, and even the occasional whiskey.
