A total hole in the wall, but I was able to watch the Giants play in World Series game 2 here so I was a very happy camper.

The bartender was sweet and quick.  Drink prices were super cheap.  There were a bunch of TVs here and a couple of megatouch machines.  The crowd here when I went (around 4PM/5PM Hawaiian Time) were mostly locals who had just gotten off of work.  They seem to frequent Kainoa's daily.

Anyway, it was a cool spot to watch the game.  I can't complain about cheap drinks and giggling at folks who don't understand the term "Fear the Beard".  Too bad I didn't know you could bring food in with you!  We were still stuffed from lunch, but it would have been fun to have something to nibble on while we watched the game.

Kareoke and cheap beer. Although it's definitely a dive bar for locals it has a nice outdoor area and is always busy on weekends

My husband and I live at Sunset Beach and stop in for a beer from time to time during the early evening hours, before the youngsters (anyone under 30) take over.  I can't really rate all the late-night excitement that goes on here, but I can rate the happy-hour excitement, which is very laid-back (and when you have to deal with H-1 traffic every day, trust me...you want laid-back!).  It's a great place to kick back and unwind.  Morgan, the bartender, is a pretty funny dude and can be quite entertaining.  The beer is cold and inexpensive.  There is a jukebox and I can actually get away with playing country music.  The locals who frequent Kainoas truly have the Aloha spirit, which seems to be harder and harder to find these days.  The one thing that would make me give it a higher star rating is if they served pu-pu's (I think there might be something in the works, but don't quote me).  It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but it's nice to have a little something to eat when you're drinking alcohol.  Regardless, we will continue to stop in and have a beer, and even the occasional whiskey.

Total hole in the wall but who cares when you're w/the people you adore!  We desperately needed to escape the boredom of the resort and drove nearly 40 mins back to Haleiwa.  The place doesn't have much--1 pool table, a juke box with rock music, some busted tables & chairs and a decent outdoor deck but definitely drew a crowd on a Sat PM.  The drinks were pretty cheap.  I think the first round was about $23 for 6 people and included some mixed & bottled beers.

When we got there, it was just a group of military guys hoggin the pool table.  We naturally took over the karaoke machine & soon the boys were singin songs w/us too.  By the time we left, the place was 3/4 of the way full and we had to hijack songs other people were singing when it took too long to get back on the mic.  The owner was really friendly and the security guard told us that he knew the band playing @ the bar down the street.  We used his name to get in w/o cover and had a decent time listening to a live band...

Not much night life in Haleiwa but then again, that's not why we went out to the country in the first place!

The heart of Hawaiian hospitality frequents here. Everybody has a ton of stories and is amazingly friendly and inviting. Mostly locals at their favorite watering hole here. Live music acts play often so it seems. The North Shore comes out starting at 10 pm according to the bartender.

Plenty of sports on TV, photos of happy customers on the walls, pool tables, karaoke, a handful of beers on tap.

A really relaxing and laid back atmosphere with the people makes for a fun time. Wish I stayed later to see it get poppin'. Maybe you should get your dinner first and then come here to chillax unlike the way I did it backwards and had to leave to eat :( and there doesn't seem to be many good restaurants nearby.
