This throw back bar from the 70's, gave me the most memorable burger experience I've had in a long time. So much so, I wanted to order another one after I ate the first one.
There's something about a great burger, something that makes you think of where you were in the past, that gave you the same pleasurable memories. The Keg's grill must be a well seasoned piece of steel, as the flavors, the crisp outer surface, sent this burger to a diffrent level.
At the Keg, you get two burger options, first a plain package burger, and second there ultimate burger thats lettuce, tomato, jalapeño and cheese.I had option two, once again, it was way ahead of the boutique burger joints in Miami's South Beach, or New York City, it's all about that seasoned grill, actually I think there's more, as the staff takes pride in what they do!
The beers cold, and good, nah great burgers!
This used to be the place to go to after Flora-Bama closed and they could stay open really late/very early. Â The Keg was to Gulf Shores as F&M's is to New Orleans. Â I had some great times during some early morning crazy times with fun bands playing here. Â Sadly they have changed their stupid laws in Orange Beach so that they no longer let this great dive stay open late and I'm afraid that will have killed its main draw and left it a shadow of its former self.
Review Source:This is a true dive bar. I was greeted by the smell of stale smoke and fry grease obviously long infused into the very fiber of this long established bar. I was also greeted with a friendly hello from the bartender. There were a handful of folks who were obviously regulars.
I had a burger which was big, juicey, drippy, messy..YUMMY!!
You have to take this as an "it is what it is" kind of place. That being said, The Keg IS a true dive bar & grill. A-OK!!
Stopped in for a quick burger when I was down alone working on our property and I was really disappointed - especially after a few Yelper's had decent reviews.
I merely wanted to have a quick burger and a beer - get in and get out - so I could get back to working on my condo. Â Wasn't looking for anything special. Â I was prepared for a 'burger dive joint' but this goes too far. Â
I walked in and somewhat felt like the record stopped when I walked in - no biggie, I get it, Â I'm not from around here. Â I was greeted further with a cloud of smoke. Â Not just a simple whiff, but a cloud so thick and horrid that it was hard to breath. Â
Again, I was ready for this, kind of. Â I vowed to move on and not judge. Â Want to try these burgers.
I sat down at the bar and looked around. Â No one behind the bar. Â Tried to watch some TV to keep myself company but it was hard because the TV's were tiny and the fog of smoke covering the air between me and the screens. Â Checked my email on my phone. Â Then checked my Twitter feed. Â I'm now running out of stuff to keep busy with. Â No one in sight. Â People around me seemed to be depressed and silent and had lost interest in caring about this dude by himself at the bar. Â A couple that looked like they were in their 80's sat a broken down table and hadn't said a word since I walked in. Â Still waiting for a bartender to notice but that would assume there was a bartender in sight.
I waited almost 10 minutes at the bar by myself choking on smoke and getting depressed at the crowd I was with. Â I got up finally and left without one person even acknowledging my presence.
My only takeaway - my clothes now stunk like a cigarette butt the rest of the night and second hand smoke regret. Â
Not my type of place I guess.
We were told by locals they have the best burger in town. Â The old bar, stale smoke, and grease penetrating atmosphere seriously interfered with the seemingly delicious bacon cheeseburger I was eating. Â This is a true dive so be prepared if you decide to visit. Â Price was good and server was friendly. Â The bathroom is scary so unless you are already intoxicated or have really low standards, empty before you arrive!! Â The burger would be 100 times better if we got it to go....
Review Source:This is a burger joint; a dive but not a dump. The burgers are a heafty 1/2 # and topped with the basic's at no additional cost. $0.50 extra for bacon was worth it, real bacon, 2 slices,,,mmmm
