We went here to shoot some pool and drink a couple beers on a Saturday evening. Â We were a little skeptical since a lot of the reviews talked about bad service and sometimes attracting a rough crowd.
Our experience did not reflect what the reviews warned about.
The waitress immediately came over to the pool tables and too our drink orders. Â The three pool tables were in good shape for a bar, although the cue selection was pretty bad.
After playing pool we sat down and order a couple burgers. Â Once again, the waitress was prompt, our food came quickly, and the burgers were rather good. Â It was a pleasant surprise and I would grab a beer here again if I didn't live 1,200 miles away.
Yes, Kelly's is the only bar in Clovis. But not the only place you can drink and get a decent meal. But if you had to eat at Kelly's. I would recommend 2 steaks for 1 on Tuesday. Not only did the steaks get bigger but they are juicy and delicious. The steak also comes with a salad and baked potato. Not bad at all. If your just wanting a snack with your drinking. Then the sampler plate is an easy choice.
The music and night scene is more Country Music and less hip hop or dub step dancing. Still the only bar, so enjoy while this is still around. I gave the bar 3 stars because it's as average as it gets for New Mexico. Plus the fact that there is no jukebox or doors on the bathroom stalls hurt the score for me. You can smoke outside in the covered Patio. Plus they don't mind the use of electronic cigarettes inside.
It's a bar that serves up some pretty decent food. Â Was blown away by their green chili cheeseburgers and french fries. Â Not a bad place to go for lunch or after work. Â They have mostly domestic beers on tap, but they are cold and tasty. Â They just got Sam Adams Boston Lager on tap! Â Seniors and Military discounts.
Review Source:Forget that this place is the only bar in town. Who cares if there is hardly any place to sit and it is load as hell on a friday night and that they only play country music. This is one of the best damn bars I have ever been to. Yes it is a bit of a dive bar compared to the bars I am used to in Denver but the beer is ice cold and cheap and you will never have a burger like the green chili burger they serve at Kelley's. I fell head over heals in love with Kelley's Bar & Grill because of that Green Chili burger. The perfect amount of spice, the perfect temperature of the meat and oh so juicy and moist. It was hands down in my top 10 best burgers of my entire life.
If you are looking for an inexpensive and down right good meal with an ice cold beer then Kelley's is your spot!
On a scorching New Mexico day, Kelley's provides a cool inviting atmosphere. The AC is blowing inside and the patio has umbrellas on the picnic tables and misting fans.
After reading the reviews, I was expecting to last a whole 15 minutes due to smoke. But to my surprise, I did not find evidence that this was a smoking establishment.
No doubt that the Monday night I stopped in is not what you would find on a Saturday night when the dance floor is probably getting some use and bands are performing. Â
I walked in to find locals sitting at the bar and congregating in one general section of Kelley's large bar & grill. There are several pool tables behind a wall near the dance floor.
The menu was huge and of course had a green chili cheeseburger (NM is big on green chili as chilies are a large crop there). The menu is four pages long and offers fried everything, Mexican food, sandwiches, soups and salads.
I ordered a glass of wine which the waitress inquired from the bartender if it was box. Â The bartender yelled out (unsolicited) "Not sure if this is any good but it has a cork". I replied that was fine. Â The wine gave me a headache, but not knowing if it was a $5 glass or a $10, I drank it anyways. The bill came and it was only $4. Think I will get vodka or rum if there is a next time.
The staff was friendly enough, it was clean, smoke free and had a variety of food. If this was anywhere else, I probably would have given it two stars, but to be honest, it is one of three bars in town and I was just happy to find a place that was open where I could grab a drink.
Clovis doesn't exactly offer a vast array of choices for nightlife. For many people, it's between Clovis City Limits and Kelley's. I prefer Kelley's because you can almost always get a table and you don't feel like an outcast if you don't dance.
The food here isn't great, but it's consistent and better than most bar food. Apparently it attracts a large lunch crowd, but I've only been at night and ordered appetizers. I highly recommend the queso though -- the green chilies add an unusual kick.
Depending on what night you go the crowd varies. I've seen everything from birthday parties early on in the evening to drunk barely-over-21 kids to couples whirling around to the DJ spinning Garth Brooks. They also offer a decent TV watching experience for you sports fans looking to catch the game.
Kelley's is what you make of it: You can sit at a corner table and watch everyone else with a Budweiser in hand, or you can jump in the action and shake your thing on the dance floor. Either is perfectly okay and you're bound to not be the only one doing it.
Just beware, on weekends they charge a cover and you'll get wanded with a metal detector at the door. I don't why they started doing this recently, but I'm probably better off not knowing. Eep!
Kelley's is an inconsistent experience. Depending on what night of the week you go there, you may or may not have a good time.
This place is popular with many of the frat boys from ENMU and also with airmen from Cannon AFB. It can get LOUD and a bit rowdy on Thursday and Friday, when plenty of both groups pack in. If this is your thing, then you'll probably love it here.
Good food and a good selection of beers. They have a dance floor (which loads up on the aforementioned nights).
Service is friendly and quick and prices aren't bad at all.
