This place is closed closed closed. Â Went out looking for it 2x because there aren't too many restaurant options in Ovid and upon much searching I realized that it's next to O'Malley and it looks like it has been closed for some time now. Â I don't understand why the telephone let's me leave a message but yet it explains why the website was down. Â Go to O'Malleys next door. Â It's open!
Review Source:I will continue coming here for the view and the sweet potato fries.....everything else is meh. Â As others have stated, the food and the service are pretty mediocre but those two simple things push this place into 3 star territory for me. Â
Last time I went there for lunch and had the burger which was ridiculously greasy yet overcooked. Â It came dressed with one slice of tomato and one piece of lettuce taken from the bottom center of the leaf so it was mostly the hard stalk which I found odd enough to remember. Â I asked for mayo on the side and the server totally forgot about it until I had to walk inside to ask for it since she refused to make eye contact with me both times she was out on the patio. Â The bun must have been three days old. Â
Come on guys.....a burger is so not difficult to get right. Â You could have at least toasted the darn bun and given me 2-3 crisp leaves of lettuce!
While visiting local wineries, we decided to stop here for lunch and to take in a very fine summer's day.
This place has a great location, separated by Cayuga Lake by only a street. Â The views from the very large deck were sublime. Â
This restaurant even has a dock for boaters to tie up and grab a bite.
The food itself was fine, it was what I would expect from an independent restaurant in its price range. Â We had a steak sandwich which came with fries and a Caesar Salad. Â Both were average, not bad not great but worth the cost.
The restaurant also has a sizable wine list, though many were from outside the region. Â I had hoped that a local restaurant such as this would focus on local wines as that is one of the big draws to the area.
Unfortunately, what hurt the experience was the near total lack of service. Â We had to find someone to be seated, once seated our order was taken fairly timely and our drinks delivered. Â The food took awhile to arrive, considering there were only a small number of guests and we had ordered a salad and a sandwich, it seemed a bit long. Â The fact we had a great view to take in while we waited did help. Â
Once the food came, we had to ask for silver wear and then for condiments including salt as our table lacked them (though other tables did have them in beer six pack boxes).
After that, I think our waiter was abducted as we did not see him for quite awhile. Â Eventually another waiter noticed that we had been waiting for some time and came by and asked if we needed anything and then went to get our check. Â About 10 min. later our first waiter returned with the check and apologized for forgetting about us. Â He came back with my credit card about another 10 min. later.
If it wasn't for a great view on an awesome day, this would have been a pretty poor experience.
Want a nice place overlooking the Cayuga lake for lunch? We found this place a good spot to stop at.
When we arrived (Monday lunch) the place was pretty dead, but that was fine by us. The food was ok (my burger was good, but wouldn't recommend the fish) and the service mixed (one guy brought a coloring book for our two y.o. when we arrived while the waitress really wanted to be elsewhere..). Price pretty normal for this sort of thing - $11 for burger.
So, while I think my experience is actually not too dissimilar to the other reviewer, I really think the venue overrides any faults and is a great place to visit while driving up Cayuga Lake. (and tempted to give it five stars so it actually shows up on yelp when you map the area on Yelp).
Steer clear.
For a place that has so much potential (great out door deck, open bar area with flat screen t.v.'s) - it is awful. The food is poor, the staff is horendous (witnessed three dropped trays of food and dining ware in our time there) and awful management - who could all care less.
Our food came out an hour and thirty minutes after we ordered. There was no apology - and they attempted to add in the gratuity and get a tip on top of it!
What looks like a winner, is a massive loser.
I'll start by saying this place has a great deck overlooking the lake and would be a great place to go IF the management and food was majorly improved!! Â If you walk into the restaurant by way of the deck, there is no clear hostess/hostess stand or instruction to seat yourself, so we went into the bar area to find someone.... a waiter told us we could go outside and find a table, so we did. Â Nobody came over for a good 20 minutes, so we went in and talked to the same waiter, who said someone would come over soon. Â When someone finally came over, we ordered our drinks, apps and dinner immediately as we weren't sure if we'd ever see our waiter again. Â Our food was taking forever and we had to once again find someone to ask about why it was taking so long... the manager was extremely unprofessional and borderline rude. Â We ended up waiting almost 2 hours (seriously!!) for our meal to come out and when we finally got it, it was HORRIBLE. Â I ordered the 1st mates plate, which was the appetizer portion of the fisherman's plate and it was the most disgusting thing I have ever had. I can not even begin to explain the consistancy, except to say, there is no way it was fresh seafood. Â I was with 5 other people and not one of us enjoyed our meal. Â I have so much more to say about this place, but will conclude by saying the food and management here are AWFUL! Â But, this place has a lot of potential, so I really hope they improve!!
