Don't let the name fool you there is nothing about this place that resembles an Irish pub, except some of the internal decor. There is no Irish music or anything being played. A hip hop night club atmosphere with a decent beer selection. You might as well go to Yardhouse at the Galleria. They have a much larger selection and you don't have to worry about people trying to start mess.
Review Source:Killarney's is an Irish Restaurant and Pub located in the heart of the Riverside Plaza. Â The atmosphere is loud with craft brews at the bar, several televisions of sports channels, and a quiz game for the customers to test their knowledge. Â The restaurant serves burgers that are the best 3 years running in the inland empire. Â As well as your signature Irish dinners of Chicken Cajun Pasta, Bangars and Mash, Shepards Pie. Â The drinks are sodas, Craft Beers and wines, and special shots. After 10, the restaurant changes to a club with a live DJ. Â Come on down and dance to your favorite music.
Review Source:I believe this place would be better suited as a night hangout for those that enjoy beer and appetizers. Â I came for lunch and dinner with coworkers and friends a few times. Â Since I am not much of a beer enthusiast, I cannot comment, but imagine that since it is a pub, it would have a wide variety on tap. Â I enjoy the bangers and mash as well as the chicken boxty. Â My coworkers usually order the fish n chips and have commented that it is rather pricey for just 2 small pieces of fish and dry coleslaw. Â Service was just ok. Â Mostly quiet during the day, at night the music is loud and they usually have a pretty large crowd. Â This is not a place I would come to by choice.
Review Source:I like this place for its staff and atmosphere, especially on Thursday nights. Several friends and I come here for karaoke night weekly and really enjoy ourselves. We've gotten to know the servers and bartenders over the few years we've been doing this, and it makes the experience all the more fun. The food is a mix of standard bar fare and some other more substantive items (they have meal service for dinner). The grilled cheese is awesome, and the special rib dinner on Thursdays is good enough to prep you for some drinking.
I'm withholding 1 star only because the rest of the weekend is usually not as much fun as Thursday evenings here. The difference in the crowd is really noticeable, and I've seen a few brawls break out on Friday or Saturday nights. That being said, the guys working the door, and even the bartenders, are on top of it when things go sour for a moment.
I live in LA, but I came here for a fundraiser event for the local Roller Derby team. Â It was a pretty busy night, but the servers made sure to let us know that they hadn't forgotten about us even tho they weren't able to take our orders right away. Â We ordered a few appetizers (fried mushrooms, chicken strips and pretzel with cheese sauce) and a beer sampler. Â Once the food was ordered, it came out fairly quickly. Â It was all decent, but tasted pretty fattening, which is typical of pub food. Â Great atmosphere and the staff are all pretty friendly. Â Enjoyed the various beers on tap.
Review Source:I came here without reading any Yelp reviews, and I sure wish I did!
When I first saw the outside of the restaurant, I thought it was very nice looking and I have never been to an Irish pub before so I was excited to try this place out! We got seated right away but it took a while for the waitress to actually take our order, and much longer for the food to come out.
It wasn't really crowded when I went because I went on a Thursday night so I paid $11.99 for a rib dinner. They have specials every day of the week. The food was alright. It was definitely not the worst ribs I have ever had, but not the best either. The french fries were really delicious though!
They had karaoke that night as well, and it was a bit louder than I would have wanted but it was cool. The waitresses were nice, but a bit slow. The food was not spectacular and the ambiance was upbeat!
I don't think I would go again but it was just plain A-OK.
one of the WORST DINING EXPERIENCES i've had in my entire life!
walked in to an empty host desk that had a sign indicating "please wait to be seated". we stood there in the doorway for about 3 minutes before a frantic looking girl came running up to us from the back to seat us.
there was a big group of girls seated near the front entrance having lunch, drinks, and laughs and then about 3 other couples scattered around the rest of the place as well as one man outside and 2 at the actual bar. the hostess/server (not sure what she actually was) seated us towards the back, dropped the menus, and ran off.
we sat there for at least 5 minutes before she came back to get our drink order and didn't even ask if we might have been ready to order the food. within 5 minutes the 2 sodas we'd ordered appeared and she informed us that the beer would be right up. both sodas were 75% gone before i'd realized the person in our party that had ordered the beer still hadn't been served. the same girl came back to the table saying the bartender couldn't find the beer we'd ordered and offered to bring an alternative! at that point i finally noticed that another girl had appeared behind the bar so we were now up to 2 employees working this mid-week lunch shift. by the time that beer did arrive, we'd finished our first sodas and were waiting for refills and our food order to be taken.
we finally got our orders in and our refills 20 minutes into our visit. noticed some food coming out of the kitchen here and there but it was 15 minutes later that our hot wings, sausage sandwich, and tacos showed up. food wasn't bad but not impressive either. as we had been waiting and waiting since we'd walked in, i had taken notice of a man at the bar putting back cocktails. he wasn't a problem until during our meal i saw him stand up from his bar stool and started adjusting his horribly dirty sweatpants. that's when i saw that they weren't just filthy but wet! HE'D BEEN SITTING AT THE BAR PEEING HIS PANTS!! he was adjusting them because they'd gotten heavy and were falling down. he mad his way to the restroom and by then my appetite was gone. other customers had noticed, moved seats even because they didn't want to be facing him when he returned to his barstool. when the server approached the men that moved seats she had a confused expression and i heard him explain why. NOTHING WAS DONE OR SAID TO THE MAN! he just sat back down and started eating his food which had arrived and continued to suck down his cocktail. i could not believe this had happened and was just ignored!
by now, the plates are pushed away, we have sour expressions on our faces and are eagerly awaiting the check so we could just leave. of course, that process added another 10 minutes to the clock even though that large party had left during that whole process and there were at this point only about 8 people in the entire place. SUCH A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND NO WAY POSSIBLE I WILL BE GIVING THIS PLACE A SECOND CHANCE!!!!!
Where do i begin? I've been multiple times and I've experienced both daytime and weekend nights. Going to lunch is pleasant, sit at the bar while making small talk with the bartender and a lot of the food items aren't half bad. Mostly stick to the appetizers though, and they have a nice beer selection. What I can't stand is the nightlife here! The front door bouncers are usually very rude and condescending, worse than places in La or Vegas. Come on! this is riverside! I'm sure maybe they're fed up with all the bros and douches that come here but be nice once in awhile to others. Once inside on weekend nights the place is packed there's a dj playing decent music and an outside area to smoke. I think its also the crowd that agitates me, a much younger crowd that is obnoxious, cheap and just a bunch of drunk messes. Not saying I'm an old fart party pooper, just that it seems to be the meet up spot for all types that I've just described and it ruins the night.
Review Source:I came here for the first time for St.Patrick's day and was interested to see what an "Irish Pub" was like. While it was flooded with people and had decent music, the bartenders displayed the WORST customer service I have EVER experienced. Upon waiting 5 minutes to be attended to, I displayed my "FourSquare" check-in coupon to a bartender (older Caucasian about 5'9-5'10) which contained a "Buy One Get One Free Drink" promotion. While he acknowledged my coupon, he proceeded to distribute only ONE of my drinks. He charged it to my tab and IMMEDIATELY went to the other side of the bar and IGNORED me. When he would return to the area where I was patiently standing, he would avoid eye contact and attend everyone around me. I continued to wait there for 15 minutes attributing his lack of attention to the busy atmosphere. His co-worker (broad shouldered Caucasian in his late 20's, early 30's) then glared at us and scoffed "What do you want" in a sarcastic tone. I thoroughly explained to him my predicament and his only response was "come back later." Well, I did return and NEVER received my BuyOneGetOne Free promoted drink. This happened right when I entered the pub, and ruined my entire night. This is definitely the FIRST and LAST time I will return to this low-quality establishment. Their behavior towards their PAYING customers is UNACCEPTABLE, I hope this is not representative of other "irish Pubs."
Review Source:Best bartenders in Riverside!
We can always count on Killarney's for great food, an excellent selection of beers and cocktails, pleasant clientele, and awesome service. Ian, the Bar Manager is an awesome asset to this spot, very knowledgeable and friendly, and efficient even when it's busy. Their Monday night burger special is a no-brainer, and their special events, live music, and of course St. Patrick's Day celebrations are fantastic. Not enough good things to say about this place! Love it!
Showed up at 7 pm on a saturday night. I had heard that it was a hopping place, mainly frequented by frat boys. However, it was more like an Irish-themed Fridays. There was shuffle board and a digital juke box set in the wall. Not too shabby. However, the food was what really disappointed. I ordered the sliders, it was basically a square patty that was sliced into quarters with untoasted buns. No sauce, pickle, or tomato. And the fries were cold, soft and something between a shoe string and McD's style fry. The little cup of ketchup that accompanined the plate was half full. When I asked for more ketchup, I again received a half cup of ketchup. Seemed a bit parsimonious when it comes to the condiments. Also, the meat patty was overly cooked, almost to the point of burnt. I was unimpressed, but hungry, reluctantly eating the sliders and leaving the fries behind.
By 10 pm it started to pick up, they walked around and carded everyone. However, I don't know if it was really popping if UCR is out of session.
Great experience on a Monday night happy hour dinner with friends. They reserved a side room for eight of us, adults and kids. We played darts and shuffle-board, had great burgers and the adults enjoyed a few beers and Strongbows. The menu overall was just my speed. Enjoyed the laid back people and atmosphere. My sense is that it gets pretty fun-loving on other nights of the week, but Monday night for us was just right.
Review Source:All my experiences here have all been quite enjoyable. Â I'm not sure what's up with all the negative reviews. Â This is a great little spot to go have beers with your girlfriends...They have plenty of different beers on tap. Â My first visit here was with two of my closest girlfriends on a Friday night. Â We actually didn't order dinner that night but instead had a few drinks. Â All the bartenders were great. They had a DJ playing that night which was fun. Â
My second visit here was the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. Â This was also a girls night out. Â We made it to dinner this time. Â Our server was super attentive and friendly. Â On Wednesday they serve $9.99 prime rib. Â All three of us ordered prime rib. Â Food was decent. Â We stayed for a few more hours. Â They had a band playing by the name of Shimmer 57. Â Drank a few beers...and after that had a few cocktails. Â Their bloody mary's are pretty YUMMY. Â Overall I enjoyed my experience here and had a lovely time! LOL :) Â I hear they have karaoke nights sometimes...I have yet to get my karaoke on! I'll be back!!
I am going to put it out there that this is my first review on Yelp and I am doing this for the fellas, directly for a Males' point of view. No offense ladies, I''m just giving it to you how it is...
OK, so I went on a Friday Night to be hit with a $5 cover. I didn't mind it as you could see from the outside the place was cracking and I mean really... it's only $5 bucks! You have to be pretty cheap to not be able to afford that.
I wasn't drinking that night so I can't review on the drink prices or how long it took to get a drink. I will say the seating area we were at had a VIP vibe and was kind of blocked off from the rest of the crowd which gave a very private feel. It's linked right next to the bar so getting the waters I had ordered ended up in my hands very quickly.
I am a big fan of music and dancing and the dance floor was popping and the DJ was definitely had the right mix to make that happen. Anyone that has a set including Vanilla Ice and Pitbull and still have everyone turning it out gets an automatic Favorite in my book.
The ratio was 2:1 guys to girls, but the odds were in your favor. A few girls were being on that I just came to dance with my girls tip, and most dudes weren't spitting the game.
It wasn't until about Midnight the place kinda lost its edge as a new DJ came on and was on that Techno and House set. I don't mind this music, but when you go from Hip-Hop and the dance floor hasn't cleared since the DJ been on, and then to this it was a bit of a drag. I appreciate the diversity, but like The System "Don't disturb this grove".
I still had a great time that was my only gripe. I had went on 10/6/12 and was looking forward to going back to see if it was going to have the same vibe...it didn't. When I went back the very next Friday 10/13...it was dead, at least no $5 cover. This is why I only gave the place 3 stars, and the music followed the same trend.
One of only a few places in the area that you can get a steady rotation of good craft beer, and they are very keen on supporting local breweries which is nice. Staff is friendly and Chris, David and Ian are rockstars.
Food is always evolving for the better, and I've noticed a big improvement over the past year in that area. $5 Burger Mondays are tasty treat and the Ribs on Thursdays for $10 is hit in my book as well.
Warm and inviting during the day/evening and after about 9 or 10 it turns into more of a dance/club atmosphere if thats your thing.
As a restaurant I'l admit its not the best, the food is just ok and the prices can be a bit high, but as a bar you will have a difficult time finding one better anywhere near by.
Most nights there are at least some people sitting around having a drink, on their more busy nights this place can get packed. The drinks are good, wide selection of beer, the appetizers are very tasty, and they even have shuffleboard and darts.
If you want to go out for drinks in the middle of the week and don't want to walk in to a complete ghost town this is your best bet. If you want a fun place to go on a Friday or Saturday this place can be a blast but get there early, the line out front can get fairly long.
While I might only give it 4 stars if it was in another city I am comparing it to what other bar options there are in Riverside, and this one of the best in that context.
This place is better than the 2.5 stars it's rated, well at least the beer menu is, I can't say anything about the food. I've been here years ago and I understand the vibe could be a little better, but this is the IE, what more do you want?
They do a great job of bringing in some of the local flavor on the taps, Hanger 24, Taps Fish House & Brewery, Inland Empire Brewing Company. The bartender was knowledgeable about the styles and was gracious to give me a taste to help me make my selection. He was trying to sell me a little hard on a Belgian when I was obviously trying to go local but I suppose that sorta skill is not really in his job description. If you want a place in Riverside to sample the local craft brew scene then Killarney's will actually fill that niche. They also have a lot of the more recognizable names so your friends can get their Guinness and Newcastle as well.
What's the opposite of Nom Nom Nom?
Must-haves: Nothing!
Skip: Everything!
As a place to eat, the food at Killarney's is pretty bland. Too salty, no flavor, poor quality and a lame selection. Seriously don't eat here!
As a place to have drink, the drinks are below average. The crowd is very IE...I'll just leave it at that.
But I will say that Killarney's does have a shuffle board and is an okay place to be on St Patty's day!
Food: F | Service: D | Selection: F | Experience: D- | Overall: F
I have been here a couple of times--all very pleasant experiences.
Once belly up to the bar--no seats -any place--and I had a BLAST (yes I was alone) with the folks on both sides of me AND the bartender---had the option to finally sit at a table but opted to stay at the bar where everyone else was also eating---too much fun.
Another time some friends and I arrived pretty darn close to CLOSING and we received superb service and even better food---this place is a KEEPER!
Came here because they tapped some Pliny the Younger. The food was good, the service was overall decent and other than a miscommunication early in the evening about how the Pliny tickets were going to be sold, overall it was a good experience.
I would come back as they have a great craft beer selection on tap. That is always welcome.
Or you can go to the spiffy place next door and get some Bud Light Platinum and sit under the cool blue lighting. Nahh....
/beer snob
Killarneys is a pub restaurant cooking up some basic Irish fare and pouring imported & domestic beers. They are one of the few restaurants in Riverside offering rotating taps and bottles of microbrews from around the world. I know they have wine because some people order it but it's not a focus so don't expect a huge selection. Â They do mixed drinks, shots and serve Whisky too. Â Each day they have a food special but I enjoy the Monday Burger special $5. They make a tasty burger.
A lot of the wood decor has been imported from Ireland so it gives an authentic rustic feel. Â They also have a back room that can be reserved for large parties or special gatherings. Â The TV's while small usually have sports or trivia playing and if you have a special game you're interested in they will often change the channel to what you want. Â The patio areas are mainly for smokers-so if you're sensitive stay indoors.
They have special events supporting local California breweries such as Stone, Hangar 24, Bootleggers, Firestone, North Coast, and Russian River. I've gone to a few of the events where they had beer paired with different foods and I wouldn't say all the pairings were great but I had fun chatting with the beer-makers and other beer lovers. The beer selection at Killarneys is top notch.
The best time to come to Killarney for a semi-quiet dinner is between 5 and 8 p.m. and they do have a decent Happy Hour 4-6:30. Â Don't expect to come to Killarneys after 9 p.m. to have an intimate dinner. Â Each night they have a special theme: Â Karaoke on Mondays, DJ on Tuesdays, Trivia on Wednesdays but mostly after 9 they lower the lights, crank the amps and turn into a night club. Â If you're into house music, dancing, red bull drinks and jager bombs or just a nightclub scene come late. Â If you want to snuggle there with your sweetie come in prior to 8 for sure when the music is low the lights are high and it's less crowded.
This is one of those irish pubs that has both expensive drinks and expensive food. But you go anyway. Ive been here on a number of occasions. Mainly Tuesday nights. And believe me it gets pretty crowded. I'm guessing its college night. For the fact that almost everyones under thirty inside here
The music and atmosphere go hand in hand. Both pretty good. Venue itself is like a huge bar with a separate room. And of course smoking patios for your pleasure. Food and appetizers are ok. Nothing mind blowing. But you get the picture.
The variety of beers though is what I love most. Lots of beers on tap. And bottle. And not to mention your liquor and tequilas. Service kinda blows. Very slow, not attentive at all. Security is cool. A little stubborn, but who isn't now a days. I really haven't been here for any other night. Nor for dinner to say the least. But it's a cool spot. And has a nice Irish feel to it. Btw I have yet to come here for saint Patricks day. But I hear it's quite a festival. Anyway not bad of a place check it out.
A little better than your regular Irish pub.
Caveat Lector: This pertains to Killarney's as a night-life spot, not an eating spot.
What I'd get here: Harp and some Irish Nachos.
Who I'd take here: Good for dates, and drinking with buddies.
Music and Entertainment Quality: 3
On some party-weekdays in Riverside, there will be karaoke or live music here. On most days, though, there's music you can dance to, with some lights going. There's also a shuffle board.
+1 shuffleboard.
Drink Quality: 4
This place offers more than your standard beer selection. Harp, UK ales, etc. They also offer a lot of scotches and whisky. This isn't some dive with an Irish sign, it's trying hard to be Irish.
+1 drink variety.
Location, Cleanliness and Ambiance: 2
This place is located downtown, far from what I would consider the 'bar area' of downtown, which would be off Mission/University--IMO this is what kills this place. Otherwise, location is pretty clean and nice looking. You wouldn't find this place unless someone told you about it; its not facing toward Central. The bartenders are wearing kilts.
-1 bad location. -1 hard to find. +1 themed bartenders.
How I rate: I have 3 categories, and each category starts at 3 points. For each item where I am impressed, they get 1 point; disappointed, lose one point.
Overall rating: round(average(ratings)) = round(3.3) = 3
Resession Sunday... I never realized this would include everything being skint as a whole, including its service
We arrived at the entry desk and watched and waited around 10 minutes before we saw a soul even bother to attempt coming to us (as if standing in the doorway isn't an obvious clue). Minus 1 star.
Eventually the bartender came around from behind the bar and asked if we were here to eat and at which point we were told we could sit where ever we'd like. No menu's. Nothing mentioned about a server. Perhaps that should have been a red flag.
So we waited a few minutes at a table clearly visible from almost everywhere in the place. Wife gets up to use the restroom and comes back. "Anyone been here yet?" Nope... another 10 minutes passed.
Not. A. Soul. for service. Minus 1 star.
Unfortunately this place has gone downhill badly over time. It's a great place to catch a drink when it's not bro-baring itself out but ultimately the service sucks more than Milli Vanilli's singing career (and should be as emarassed for such).
So in the end I have to dock 2 stars. As much as I want to love this place, its horrendous service and lack of such drive away more people than anything else. If you like being treated like a nobody and avoided, then feel free to come here to your hearts content.
Had dinner here with my gram for the first & last time. They seated us right under the air and a speaker so we were cold and couldn't hear each other talk. I asked our waitress if they could turn it down, but they didn't. The food was cold and tasted icky.
So yeah, I'll pretty much never go there to eat again. Maybe to get beers, but I'm not even sure about that : / I'd rather just go to The Sire around the corner or Lounge 33 for drinks.
One of my favorite places to eat. All the food goes great with a beer. Stuff to try:
Drunken Chili - spicy chili, pieces of corned beef;
Shepherds Pie: Guiness thick beef stew in the bowl w/ mashed potato on top;
anything on their "Irish Fare" list
The entree that keeps me coming back is the Corned Beef steak. OMG!!! Slow cooked to perfection topped with Irish Whiskey Gravy, it melts in your mouth.
I usually go here around lunch time or if I eat dinner I only go Sunday night thru Thursday night. Friday and Saturday night I don't go b/c they turn this place into a club: Door fee, bouncers, DJ, overcrowding, trouble
So I used to go here all the time. Petty chill place to get a beer and some loaded fries, maybe get in a game of shuffleboard. The waitresses were nice, and I liked the live punk Irish music.
Then they sold out.
Hip hop? Really? Dude bro, another fight? Making the waitresses wear tiny skirts (okay the guys might like that, by do they really have to sluttify their staff like that?).
Don't call yourself an Irish pub if you're gonna be like every other bro bar in Riverside.
We went in for lunch around one on a Sunday. The place was pretty dead.
We ordered beer battered onion rings, which were really good, but there were only six total in the basket, which was a little disappointing. I ordered a bowl of potato soup to go along with my fish and chips. The bowl of soup arrived, and looked like it had been sitting for a few hours.
I took a bite and realized that it was ROOM TEMPERATURE. It took a few minutes for our waiter to come back by, and when I explained the issue, he said he was sorry and said he would be right back with a new bowl. A few minutes later, he returned and told me that this one was hot, and was "FRESHER".
My mom ordered a grilled cheese and at the suggestion of our waiter- substituted a bowl of soup for the fries. When her plate arrived, NO soup and fries on the plate. He corrected the mistake.
I did not get through one piece of the mediocre fish and was either full, or just not interested enough to continue eating.
We were given our check, and I gave the waiter my credit card. He returned with the receipts to sign, and after I had signed and filled out the slip, I noticed that the credit card was not mine. He had brought back the wrong card AND payment slip.
Needless to say- I will not be back.
My wife, a law student, left her $400 Prada prescription reading glasses there. She called them twice and they verified they were there and they had them in hand. They placed them in their lost and found box with her name on them. 2 days later, the glasses were gone. The most likely scenario, in my opinion, is that an employee took them as no one else would have had access to them.
Both manager and owner have been non-responsive. We will be taking them to small claims due to supposed employee theft and negligence.
After 10pm there's a $5 cover. Now, I don't usually like to use acronyms as descriptors but simply put.....LOL!
What's even worse is that we actually paid it. Sad face.
To my credit, there was a cover band playing Billy Idol's "Eyes Without a Face" so I thought "Well, if they keep this up the 5 bucks will be worth it." Â As soon as we walked in, the band held an intermission. Curses!!
This would be a great place for a date. I've made the mental note and filed it away for future use when I start dating again. It's a casual and conducive environment for conversation, but (most importantly) there's a full bar in case the date turns out to be a real dud.
I'd like to come back and try the food, but for late night drinking this place definitely isn't my scene.
What was said: Mel, you should go here for a laugh
What I heard: Mel, you should totally go here to submerse yourself into the sad moronic bro/bro ho culture you so thankfully left behind
What was experienced: straight brimmed hats, baggy jeans, crispy-fried-stripy hair in my drink, bad tattoos, big trucks, big fakies, orange skin, the 'blue steel' gaze, bandanas, holy hell-it's crowded, me flipping off the whole bar, a dude brushing himself off after accidentally bumping into me, strong drinks, good onion rings, good waitress, shuffle board, big patio with heaters that aren't needed cause it's so damn hot in the IE, good cougars, bad cougars, big egos and hairdos like this: http://i3.photobucket.co…
I said some nice things in there about the place. For a kick back bar/restaurant, it's good. For a Friday/Saturday night hangout, it's a bit much, but hey, what else are those crazy IE kids gonna do?
