My wife and I went to Kirks Ferry Trading Post last night. It was our first time to eat there had toured the place before it opened. The food was good- wood fired oven roasted chicken and prime rib with twice baked potatoes and a cowboy cookie for desert (see photos). The place was busy but we were seated right a way and the service was good.

The only negative comments I have are: The prime rib was warm not hot, however, it did taste good. And we were there on a warm summer day and the restaurant evidently does not have AC because it was warm inside too! They did have several fans running which did help.

We will go back someday soon for their wood fired oven pizzas!

We tried this place twice. The first time we experienced slow, oblivious service. We were very disappointed that the appetizer we ordered was unavailable, so we waited for our prime rib which was the special that night. We waited a long time, enough to finish our drink and water. No check in from the waitress, no refresh of the drinks. Steaks arrived and were delicious. We left thinking well it's a new place they are figuring out the service.

We returned a month later with my father and step mom who were visiting from the east coast. This time we sat in the bar area. The waiter lets us know they are out of burgers and had one flank steak and no salmon. Of the 4 entrees this left the special and the lamb chops as our dinner options. Half of the menu was unavailable, how does a restaurant expect to last if they run out of their limited menu items?  Both my dad and mom ordered the lamb. The lamb was cold. The cornbread was frozen. It looked awful!

To top it off the service again was marginal. I watched as our server ate his dinner at the bar in between running to the kitchen. Don't know if there was any hand washing between those runs of food and his eating. I had really high hopes for this place. It looks fun and entertaining. The service and the menu needs some serious attention. If you are charging $19 a plate for dinner the service should be decent and the food should be cooked properly and taste good. Figure out if you are a fine dining restaurant or burgers and pizza joint. Don't try to do both half-way.

My review is not about the food, the atmosphere, or the service. It might have been, but when we got there from Albany ~ 11:30am for Sunday brunch, it was closed. I checked their facebook page this evening and there was a line in the "about" section that said "closed until tomorrow 3:00pm-10:00pm". I don't know when the note was posted.
I strongly suggest calling first to verify that they will be open when you plan to go there, especially if you will be driving some distance, which is a fair bet.
I'd rather not rate it, but since I must, it is up to about a 2 for interesting architecture.
For the record, we ended up going to the Pioneer Villa restaurant back at the I-5 exit and had two "senior" breakfast combos, and one cup of coffee (with a thermal pot on the table for refills), for under $10. A "regular" breakfast for two can be had for $15-20.

Visiting friends in Eugene who were raving about this cool new restaurant.  Always happy for a new experience, we headed out for dinner and what turned out to be an amazing dining experience.  First of all, the menu is a complete departure from the standard ribs, steak and burgers that you would expect from the (really cool looking) log cabin-roadhouse exterior. At first glance, the prices seemed a bit high, but we changed our minds quickly when we actually tasted the fare!  Whoever is doing the cooking really knows what they are doing.  Our party of four eagerly sampled each other's choices (Cajun Steak, Fried Chicken, Trout and a Blueberry Salad).  All were really nice.  Beautifully seasoned, attractively presented.  The waitress happily substituted the andouille mashed potatoes for the french fries and they are amazing.  I noticed that the Blueberry salad was made with all local ingredients.  It reminded me of the Alice Waters philosophy...buy local and use seasonal.  I noticed a couple of less than enthusiastic reviews which is too bad.  Apparently this place has only been open a short while but I'm thinking that it would be well worth a return visit when I'm back in the area next year. I hope that word of mouth makes sure it's still there when that time comes.
(Although the dessert menu looked really appealing, we were way too stuffed to even think about it this time around).
Parking is plentiful, dress is casual, the wait-staff is friendly and attentive.

Terrible:  Slow service, mediocre drinks, unappealing & unappetizing food, dark & hot atmosphere (in very old log building- not so clean?)- only went because we had a Living Social discount voucher...and because we had never been to Brownsville.  What started as an adventure resulted in disappointment- sorry to say~

On my girlfriends dads birthday, we decided it would be nice to come out to Brownsville to try this nice looking, brand new restaurant. I wish we would have waited a little while longer before giving this place a try, because they don't quite seem to have all of the "Bugs" worked out.
The restaurant is nice, with cool decor that really gives it the old school, wild west feel. The menu was small and simple, but with some promising looking options.
After waiting for a bit to get our orders taken, and drinks served, the waitress asked us if we want some jalapeno cheddar biscuits, and assures us, "they're free!".  Free of charge they were, but free of bugs they weren't. As my girlfriend is pulling apart the biscuit, she noticed a black clump baked into it, she pointed it out to me and said she thought it was seasoning. I agreed, and continued to eat my biscuit, as she continued looking. After further investigation, she realized that it was indeed a fly, which also explains why there was another fly dive bombing our heads. He must've believed it was our fault his friend was dead.
After waiting another 15mins, the waitress comes out to check on how we were doing, and to get us more water. We informed her of the winged creature that was in our biscuit, and she was bound and determined to make things right. She stormed to the kitchen, and returned a few minutes later, with claims that they will "make this right".
"Dessert's on us tonight guys!" she claimed as she brought out our meals, another 20 minutes later. We figured that was better than nothing, as we looked down at the food we ordered, which mostly looked better on paper. Roast beef sandwiches for the parents and I, and a hamburger for my girlfriend.
Now, I may not be a graduate of "Le Cordon Bleu", but I can tell you this: one of the key features of a roast beef sandwich is, the horseradish. They must've been out of horseradish this day, because ours were just slathered in unmelted butter. All three of our sandwiches were lukewarm at best, and appeared as tho they were initially heated in a microwave. The plain sourdough bread was not toasted in the slightest, and the cheese was just warm enough to start sweating. Not the tastiest dish I've ever had.
When I asked my girlfriend how her burger was, she prompted me to give it a try. After giving it a try, and eating a couple fries to get the taste out of my mouth, we came to a conclusion. It was not a burger patty, but it hamburger meat shaped into the form of a patty. It tasted like a cafeteria meat loaf sandwich, that they serve the day after they have the meat loaf special. It wasn't even enjoyable, the meat was very bland and dry, with out any strong flavored toppings to rescue it. So it remained half eaten.
After awhile longer, long after we had all decided to call it quits on entrees, the waitress came back out. She brought us out dessert menus and said "OK you guys get two free desserts". What seemed to initially be a gesture of kindness, for making us all disgusted before we ate, turned into an opportunity for them to make a few more dollars, forcing two of us to order desserts we never would of ordered. Well, we didn't fall into that trap. Each couple ordered a Rustic Raspberry Sage Cobbler, to go. Another 20 mins later she comes out with our boxes, and our check. $42 for the 4 of us. Not bad considering it's a sit down restaurant, but not good, considering I've made better roast beef sandwiches after a night of drinking, and 1/10th the amount of time and money.
All in all, we were in the restaurant for over one and a half hours, and got little to no enjoyment out of any of it, other than each others company. So if you want a good atmosphere for drinking, and don't feel like driving across the bridge to the tavern, then I would highly recommend this place, but if you want some decent food, I'd drive right on by.

This place is amazing.  A breath of fresh air for the folks in and around Brownsville!  If you are in Albany, Corvallis or even the Eugene area, you must come and have a great time.
Last night 5 friends and myself went down for the "soft" opening.  I figured it would be a mess, but no, the staff knew which end was up, how to pour a pitcher of beer and the food was amazing.  Not your typical bar food!  The atmosphere is one I would love to share, but it is best seen in person!  I wish the owners and staff much luck and many years of amazing food!
