I had no clue this place existed. I was actually on my way to Trader Joe's, and had to double-back. It was a hot summer day, so people were sitting out on the patio enjoying beers on wooden picnic tables. The set-up is simple and casual. There are servers outside on the patio, but we opted to go inside to the bar so we could see their entire beer list. We got the taster tray with 6 beers for $6 - what a deal! The service is friendly, and they're more than happy to explain their beers to you, and their growler filling system. Most growlers only last a few days, but at Kulshan, they actually pressurize each fill, so it can keep in your fridge for up to 3 weeks (unless you open it, of course). The brewery is fairly small, and don't have any food, but they've clearly worked out a deal with Diego's Mexican food truck, who are parked alongside. You can have tacos with your beers in the sunshine, and chat with other like-minded beer fans.
Review Source:This place is perfect is every way. Outdoor seating with large picnic tables, live music, and food trucks. Need I say more?
There is more. They have a great selection of beers, ranging from the light beers to the dark porter and stouts. We got a pitcher of the Dude Man Wheat Ale. It was $13. Yes. For the whole pitcher. This makes me want to move to Bellingham.
We sat on the patio in the sunshine, sipping on our light summery beers. I couldn't ask for more.

Was traveling by train from Portland to Seattle last summer when I met a guy who told me about Kulshan Brewing. Fast forward a year and we're in Bellingham and finally get a chance to check it out.
It's a small place, a brewery really, with a small tap room inside but a much larger outdoor seating area which was great on the sunny Saturday afternoon were there.
We both usually go right for the local rendition of an IPA wherever we go and what a great choice it was. Excellent.
There's no on-premises food but they have rotating food vendors outside. Â Didn't get the Saturday vendors name but the ruben dog I had was great, my wife didn't feel the same way about her pumpkin soup though.... too spicy!
Next time we get a chance to visit Bellingham, we'll be back for a Kulshan IPA and maybe a growler to go.
Micros aren't my thing but this place is a nice alternative to Boundary Bay. Â Has kind of a cool vibe to it. Â Tried the red and wheat and liked both. Â Servers are nice and friendly. Â Food truck thing is different but kind of cool. Â During the summer you can sit outside. Â Overall pretty fun place - kind of a sausage fest though. Â Where be the women?
Review Source:This place has a very simple, straightforward purpose and menu: creating/serving good quality craft beers.
I've only been to Kulshan once so far, but I was really impressed and looking forward to my next opportunity to stop by again. Â The establishment is located a mile or so from downtown Bellingham in a residential neighborhood. Â There's not a whole lot to it: a brewery area, bar area with some stools, standing counters, and a few small tables inside, and a beer garden with big picnic tables outside. Â Plus it's dog friendly, which is always a huge bonus. Â No food is served here, but patrons can bring in comestibles and there is usually a food truck parked nearby.
As for the beer, the Bastard Kat IPA and Midnight CDA (Cascadian Dark Ale) were both fantastic; can't wait to try the rest!
Bellingham is small, but it is quickly becoming known as a hub for the production of craft beer along the Northwest Coast. With Chuckanut Brewery pumping out German-based brews, Boundary Bay creating murky ales, and Elizabeth Station selling hundreds of bottled and canned craft creations for take-out, there is no shortage of delicious beer in this small college town just south of the border. There is a new kid on the block as well: this kid's name is Kulshan and he produces crisp, cautious, extremely flavourful beer. Kulshan Brewery opened this year, in 2012, and it is quickly gaining popularity in Bellingham and its environs. Offering a dry pale, a robust red, a snappy IPA, a rich porter, and a bewitching CDA (Cascadian Dark Ale), the beers offered are straightforward yet made with care. While other West Coast craft breweries such as Elysian and Sound have starting experimenting with flavours and techniques, Kulshan is focused on making a few brews really, really well. They do not yet serve food here, but there is usually a food truck parked out front. You can, however, get peanuts and pretzels from the bar for $0.75 per cup.
Review Source:I'll add my support to the other positive reviews of Kulshan Brewing Company. Â Great, low key atmosphere, very friendly staff and excellent beers.
First visit was this past Friday afternoon and stopped by to fill a couple of growlers. Â Place was jumping and lots of people outside at the picnic tables. Â Went in to the counter and was a bit worried we'd have a long wait or brusque service but not the case. Â Despite being very busy we were greeted quickly by the woman pouring beers and running the till and she poured us tasters as she kept up with other orders and customers.
I like medium-hopped IPA's and Kulshan's is excellent with nice hops crispness that doesn't overpower the underlying malt taste. Â The Red is also very good and we ended up with a growler of each. Â We also tried the Double Brother Double IPA which was excellent as well. Â The don't do growler fills of the Double... which is a good thing, but a glass of this, especially as the weather starts to cool would be something to linger over.
Nice vibe, growlers quickly filled by happy people make this a place we'll return to.
Took a while to get noticed by the bartender who was in a private conversation - seems to be the Bellingham way. Â But the Red Cap Red Ale made up for it - yum! Â A little sweet, a little hoppy, big flavor all around. Â And, of course, there were friends outside and loads of bicycles!!
Review Source:Kushan got off on a really good foot offering two things that allot of other places lack. First of all they are brewing some really good beer. Second they are really nice people that treat you with respect and want your business regardless of how packed and busy it gets. Might as well mention the rotating food options (street vendors) have been great. Check it out if you haven't.
Review Source:Dave Vitt has brought something to Bellingham that it has needed for some time, the neighborhood pub. Enjoy a pint or two with a meal from one of several rotating food trucks that park out front (they don't mind if you bring the food inside), and grab a growler to slake your thirst once you're back home.
Spot-on laid-back Northwest atmosphere, food choices that are always good (and changing), and of course, the well-rounded beers make Kulshan Brewing Co. worth coming back to time and time again
