The Lafayette Bar

I've come to know The Hotel Lafayette Bar as an well-worn venue for jazz on the first and third Saturday of every month. Most of the musicians travel from Gotham to play for the laid-back, receptive crowd. For a show without a cover charge, this is one of the best music scenes to be had, since it's completely unique. Take some time to get to know the regulars and soon you'll be one as well. It's a true American dive.

Walk north on 4th past the doors to the Hotel lobby and make a right through the double grey doors just past the old Coffee shop sign.

With it's carpeted walls, plastering of vintage beer & cigarette adds, and mixed crowd, I would agree that the Lafayette Bar is a true dive. We were also here for a jazz night, and are so pleased to have stumbled upon this place!  no cover charge and great music.

drink prices weren't bad - $9.50 for a glass of wine and a brandy&diet. i did chuckle, however, when I asked what they had for white wine and the response was "white zinfandel". it is cash only, though there's a bank/atm across the street.

my boyfriend described it perfectly - "no pretenses"
