A friend and I visited Lake Street Tavern on Wednesday, late afternoon, on the recommendation of a friend of his. We were one of a few people in the bar area which was nice.

The decor is attractive and the music was loud but not obnoxious.  We could easily have a good conversation.  There are several TVs but they were not distracting.

The service was very good with a friendly waitress who was attentive.   Although I asked her if the Maurice Salad was similar to the original and she was unaware of an original Maurice Salad.  She was probably too young to remember Hudson's.

I loved the Maurice Salad and it is very close to the original and dare I say, a bit better?
My friend had the corned beef sandwich which he enjoyed.

We both felt that the cost was a bit too much and will probably not have drinks with our entree next time to save on cost.

The Maurice Salad was so good, I have to give the rating 4 stars.  I will return to try out other items on the menu.

Great local pub.  The waitstaff is fun and friendly and the place is flexible: it can serve any need.  Nice dinner out, sure.  Take the kids, no problem.  Hang at the bar for a game, done.  The food is solid, much better than most pubs, with a couple of standouts (love the meatloaf).  They have a great, and constantly updated, beer list.  The place is a bit pricey, which is the only thing that keeps it from a five for me.  It's atmosphere and beers make it my preferred downtown location.

I've visited Lake Street too many times to count.  Living only a mile away, it's not unheard of for me to eat here twice a week...sometimes more if my pantry has me feeling uninspired (translation: too lazy to cook.)

The waitstaff is great.  Very friendly, the bartenders regularly say hello to my husband and I, and enlighten us on the new arrivals of their delicious array of beers on tap.

Here's my issue:  with an appetizer, drinks, entrees, and tip, you can easily rack up a $70 tab for 2 people.  Not outrageous, but a little steep for a frequently-visited local watering hole.  Especially since the quality of the food has become incredibly inconsistent.

There's this jalapeno popper dip we order regularly.  Sometimes it comes out cheesy, gooey, spicy, and delicious.  Other times it's separated, crumbly, and greasy, like it sat on the warmer for 4 days straight.  Twice we've even had it served to us totally burnt.  Lake Street also makes a homemade white balsamic dressing. Sometimes it's served perfectly creamy and emulsified.  Other times it's a little more liquid and separated.  Then sometimes you just get a ramekin full of oil, maybe a few shreds of shallot if you're lucky.

Sure, we can send food back to the kitchen, and we have.  But considering the cost of the food, you really shouldn't have to.  And no one wants to be known as the picky-regulars-who-send-everything-back.  We've planted a few seeds with the waitstaff, they listen kindly but feel their hands are tied.

One other thing...I've seen the owner in here multiple times.  It's a little discouraging that she's not once approached me or my husband to acknowledge our frequent visits.  Here's a sample script of my expectations of the conversation:  "Hi, my name's *blonde lady with short hair,* I notice you are in here a ridiculous number of times per week and just wanted to thank you for your patronage."  Additional bonus material might include any or all of the following:  "Won't you tell me about your overall experience here?",  "I'd love for you to complete a survey," or "Here's a free appetizer."

I've tried almost everything on the menu.  When the kitchen is on their game, the food is easily 4 stars.  But for now, it's a stretch with a rating of 3.  Until some changes are in place, we will keep our visits few and far between.

As a South Lyon resident, this is our trendy restaurant / bar.  Nice age range from mostly 30's to 50's.  There is a restaurant section and a bar section, with a small outdoor patio during summer.   Interior decor has a nice nostalgic feel, almost Boston corner pub feel.  The menu is fairly extensive.  Wings are meaty and come in bbq or mild.  Burgers are very good!  My favorite in town!!  Try the skinny whole wheat bun, not to mention the fries are to die for!  The bar is roomy, with nice flat screens for the games.  They also serve up many local craft beers.  The prices are a little above average. The staff are friendly and accomodating!  I recommend you give this local downtown hangout a try!

We were here two days ago for dinner. Agree with other reviewers on a number of different opinions. First, very large selection of craft beers. You should be able to find something you like. Second, we have never had bad service but it can seem too casual, sorta like " we are all family so I may not get back to you right away but you know I mean well". Have always had pleasant staff who are very polite and smiles on faces. Third, many of the entrees are overpriced for what you get. Does seem like many of the dishes are priced like a four star establishment but get delivered as diner plates. I will have to go on a Monday night and try the 5 buck burger special. This is a go to place in my book, especially for beer choices, but maybe sticking with "bar food" when it comes time to eat.

This is my third time here and I will definetly be coming back.  Service was a little slow, but there were only two waiters on shift.  Our waitress was very polite and our order was perfect.  Loved the chicken pesto on ciabatta.  Great fries (if you like crispy ones) and a good selection of craft beers.  I wont be out on a busy weekend night, but for a nice dinner on a Monday??  I'll be back!

My wife ordered the fish n chips. I ordered the tenderloin tips. Fish n chips were very bland and there was way to much batter, we had to send them back. Tenderloin tips said 8oz. Smallest 8oz order I have seen.  I will say they did taste good.  Waitress is very happy but has been running around. Maybe short staffed but you think with march madness on they would plan better.

My wife and I have been meaning to come back here after our first encounter, even though we were semi-disappointed.  Their balsamic vinegar chicken was excessively acidic and hard to eat.  The meatloaf was pretty good, but didn't have any substance to it -- it wasn't hearty.  The macaroni and cheese was OK, too, but tasted overbaked and kind of dry.
In other words, the food was average.  And the service started attentive, but ended up taking forever to cash out.
So I don't know why I have that temptation to come back.  Maybe because the menu had enough variety to encourage me back.  I'll update accordingly when I do.

I just move to South Lyon and have been to Lake Street a few times. I like the atmosphere here.  Staff is friendly but slow. I love their BBQ burger but they they recently changed the bun from a brioche to a plain white bread kaiser. Pretty disappointed.
I'll continue to stop in once in awhile but probably not to eat.

Busiest night of the year.  Pumpkin fest September 27.  25 minute wait for a table and we never got our appetizer, BUT the waitress was super nice and attentive, and the burgers were some of the best I've ever had(I've had a lot of burgers).
Food came out hot and pretty quick considering how busy they were.
If the food is this good every time, I'll be a regular.

Pub food menu; Wish they offered normal draft beer but many folks seem to like micro beer pubs.

I came here once before to pick up a carryout burger for lunch and loved it, but when I came here one evening with my husband to eat dinner in, I was VERY disappointed...The food was overpriced, for a typical menu. I ordered the Atlantic Salmon, which is a dinner, to which I figured at 16 dollars would come with soup or salad and was told it did not.The salmon was unbelievably small and tasted closely to costco frozen, although costco's is better. The asparagus that came with it was ice cold. My husband's ordered the Tavern Stroganoff, to which he said was good but only warm at best. Our server although a nice girl seemed overwhelmed as another server (not ours) continued to STOMP not walk throughout the restraurant, back and forth past our booth, which was near a servers station in the back.
My husband ordered a Jack and Coke to which we had to send back 2 times because there was NO Jack in the coke. All in all, I do not like to diss the local places in my hometown, but....1 chicken wing 6 pieces app, 1 onion soup,  2 dinners, 1 Sprite, 2 Jack and Cokes (which we were charged for double shots) bad lighting, knats flying around the table, and servers with lead feet, a rushed overwhelmed waitress and a bill for 78.00.....TOTALLY not worth it.

Food was amazing. I got the mac and cheese, which was fantastic. Had a great kick to it- not your average boxed macaroni! My dad got the pulled pork sandwich and it was amazing. Mom got the stroganoff- don't be put off by the French fries, it's awesome! French onion and mushroom soups were both really good as well. Beer selection is great, lots of local microbrews. Good service too. Not too noisy, lots of TVs, nice atmosphere. All in all, outstanding!

There were four people in our party, this was our first experience at Lake Street Tavern. The atmosphere was lively plenty of flat screen TV's displayed all the games and a good crowd was present. Service at our table was a bit off... fine we can deal with that it was busy. What was not acceptable was the quality of the food, each person in our party ordered a different meal and all four of us agreed it tasted like the food was dished out from a can. The prices reflected quality food that's not what we experienced.

We met friends here the other night for some drinks and dinner.  I have to say, for me the beers weren't all that great, but to be fair and honest; I'm no beer connoisseur...  That said, the appetizers and hamburgs were awesome.  I'd come back from the burgers any day here...  Try the Steakhouse burger with pepperjack cheese instead of the provolone...

Really good. Especially considering that it is located in South Lyon. I had the shrimp po boy. It was dynamite.

If you find yourself at the Lake Street Tavern, good luck deciding on what to order because there's a multitude of rotating beer tabs from a solid variety of Michigan breweries.  And if you or your comrades prefer macro beers, wine, or cocktails, there's a great selection of those too.  The Tavern's atmosphere is a nice juxtaposition (big word alert!) between the historic architecture and modern upgrades, which gives is a somewhat upscale feel without the upscale prices.  Oh, and the cuban sandwich is a highlight of the food menu in case you come hungry.

While there isn't a lot of places to choose from in South Lyon, I hate to say that I do not like this place. It is stuffy and expensive and honestly I can get better food down the street for cheaper.

We love it here, the food is always very good, and the staff very friendly. Jen the waitress twisted my arm to try the pumpkin flan...now I have dreams about it!!!

I live within walking distance of the Tavern, and eat here or stop in for a beer at least once a week.  They recently added ten rotating taps of Michigan craft beers, which I love and boosts this place from a three star establishment to four stars in my book.  They are also keeping Bell's Two-Hearted Ale on tap, and you will be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn't love that beer.

The food is your classic pub food.  I think the burgers are very good.  I've tried the meatloaf, calimari, ribs, wings, and a couple of the fish dishes.  Again, I would say it's three star food.

The exception to me is the monthly beer and wine events they hold.  I've been to food-beer pairing events hosted by Founders and Bells, and both times I was really impressed with the food.  The chef seems to step up his game for these events.  I believe it's $40/ticket, and the next event is with Short's Brewery.  Typically you receive four or five courses with a 5 oz. beer, though now and then you get a full bottle.  They also do some fun drawings for prizes.

I also enjoy the service here, but obviously it helps when you are local and know everyone by name.  Nic and Maria are great at the bar, and Nicki is spunky and fun.

You aren't going to find excellent food in South Lyon, but I think the Tavern offers the best combination in terms of food, beer selection, and good service.

Came back with friends and tried one of their specials.  Chicken piccatta.  Was DELICIOUS.  I'm sure a real italian place could knock this dish out of the park.  But for a local establishment with an awesome alcohol selection to have this dish and do it WELL... was amazing.

Tried the chicken wings, too.  Those are great.  Seriously, better than Buffalo Wild Wings.  Isn't anyone else a little tired of that place?  These wings were like a breath of fresh air.  Spicy, flavorful and crisp on the outside.

The hubby is always happy with their beer selection.  They have delicious mixed drinks which are seasonal and changes.

They have local music which comes in weekly to play.  We didn't have time to stay for the band, but would have sorely liked to.

I'll definitely be back again.  I'm so happy to have a place like this nearby!

Been here twice in the last two weeks. I must admit now that the first time that we went the server noticed me checking in on yelp and then my friends continued to harass me in front of him that "he is an elite member"

    Anyways...

    Service:
Service has been excellent. Both times i went it was with a large group and the server had no issue with keeping the orders/drinks straight. He was even able split up the bill. If you do go with a group there is a giant table in the back that i suggest.

    Food:
I've  had the jambalaya, which was good. The chilli which was good. And the south carolina style pull pork sandwitch which was also good. I have heard that you should stay away from the taco's though.

    Beer:
They had a good selection of local beers. They have vanilla java ported in a bottle and jawjacker on tap. The vanilla java porter is my all time favorite beer.

This place has yet to disapoint. I will be back again.

Ok, From your review's, I may not have given this place a fare shake! I thought it was somewhat average or below. Sorry, to those that love it here! Price's were just to high for normal, average eats. Hate, hate, well... Hate, spending more $$$ than necessary for no big deal! Has the look of high class dining, with the food of Big Boy's. Yes, I did compare it to Big Boy's. At least when you go to Big Boy's to spend $10 on a Ham & Swiss Sandwich (Slim Jim). You know what to expect that from the$10. Sandwich.  Guess the best thing I have to say is...............nice tv's.

I had to wait a while to write this review because I really couldn't decide if I loved or hated this place. I finally settled somewhere near the middle. We went about 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Our waitress seemed off, I still can't put my finger on it but I felt like she was less than thrilled to be at work. We went at 6 pm on a weekend and this place was a ghost town! We were one of 4 tables and this place is big, not cozy. It was bad! I just felt like, yes it sucks, it's slow, don't take it out on me lady!

As for our food, we went when they had their grand opening and this visit was better. I was glad to see they now have a kids menu! My daughter got the kids nachos which were chips with cheddar cheese melted on top. Nothing else. Maybe some kids like it but not mine, she wanted to know where all the "stuff" was and spent most of dinner mad.( for the record she was aware of this when she ordered them). I got the mushroom soup and a pesto grilled chicken sandwich. The soup was descent, I liked it. The sandwich too but nothing I would freak out about. My husband got a burger and felt the same.

All in all I feel like this place is ok but I can go lots of places and get ok food. I will more than likely go back and give them another shot if I am in the mood for someplace different than our usual spots but I won't be adding them to my favorites.

I heard and never experienced some negative things when they first opened, but since then I have only heard good things. Their pricing was a little high too but now everything seems to be square. I've been there a half dozen times or so and have always enjoyed the food and beer selection. The outdoor seating is really nice to have in downtown SL, keep up the good work guys!

Good place to hangout and watch a game or catch up with friends. Staff is very friendly, prices are reasonable and the food is very good!

We went here on a Saturday night and it was refreshing to not have oung kids drunk and yelling but rather just people out with family and friends having a nice time. There is plenty of parking in the lot right behind the tavern so it's a quick walk to get inside.

They have $2 bud light and bud for all NFL games - pretty nice deal. They have seasonal beers too if you want something different. I definitely recommend this place!

There was a lot of noise made at the opening of the Lake Street Tavern. The owners came with the pedigree of having opened Poole's Tavern in Northville. And I agree...Poole's is GREAT.

Not to go all Lloyd Benson, but the Lake Street Tavern ain't Poole's.

The Burgers are nowhere near as good. And let's face it, the burgers and ribs are what makes Poole's.

And the burgers are not even close.

Neither is the service. I have had nice servers here...but I have had weird waits everytime. What is up with that?

It was not busy on any of the occasions.

    All that said..

There are a couple of high points:

    The Mushroom Soup is excellent.
Last time I was there they had an excellent Sauerbraten as a special.

Still...at this cost, and with it's supposed pedigree, I always find myself expecting more of the Lake Street Tavern than it gives.

Probably the best place to eat in South Lyon area. Menu features a wide variety of selections including some great Mushoom soup (the cook worked with chef Milos at the Golden Mushroom). Prices are moderate and there are plenty of TVs on the wall in the bar area. If the restaurant part was quieter I would give it a 5 star rating-not all patrons want to watch TV while they eat. The food and service was good-if you find yourself in the area, it's worth a stop.
