The atmosphere is unbeatable. Ask to sit outside or wait until you can. It's beautiful and they have heat lamps. The prices vary, so you can have a reasonably priced dinner or a nice dinner! That option plus the atmosphere make it the nicest place to eat in Avalon. Another plus: looks like the wines were selected mostly from California. Great selection of wines we actually have had wine tasting up the coast or in Napa. Mumm, Clos Du Blois, Mondavi. But the margaritas are great too, and the price won't scare you.

Fourteen of us showed up for cocktails and appetizers.    The beer is cold, there were no complaints about the margaritas.   We ordered two sets of nachos with the works.  Sour cream, guacamole, chicken, beans, olives all of it.   The nachos were crispy and the cheese melted making a delicious huge mess - just as it should be.

We ordered fried calamari and it was not the tentacle type.  It was fillet of calamari deep fried and breaded.    The calamari was soft, tender and not greasy.   I would order both of these appetizers again.

The place was not too busy when we arrived but something happened and it was busy in the outdoor patio.   We were not in a hurry, so it was not a problem that the service was a bit slow.  There were just a few servers and one bartender for a pretty big place.   So, if you walk up the steps and its busy, prepare to wait.

I was facing out away from the harbor and the sun was glaring down at an angle.   It would have been a much better experience if there were some sort of angular sun-block to prevent this angle of sun beam.   The sun-glasses could not block it either.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

We had our wedding reception here Aug. 2012 in the large Spanish courtyard downstairs. All I can say was.....PERFECT. Our food was AMAZING. We had 100 guests and our main entrees were the filet mignon & sword fish. EVERYONE commented on how great the food and appetizers were. For apps they served bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers, jumbo shrimp cocktails, bruschetta, pear brie filot wraps & oysters. The staff was professional and table service was exceptional. Not once did I have to ask for a champagne refill since the staff was on top of it all night. Our guests loved having their own private bar downstairs and plenty of space to dance. Augustine was the wedding coordinator and all I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you. It was def. a night I'll never forget. We appreciate your organization and professionalism.  Tables were provided, chairs, bar, wait staff, clean up, lights & linens.

Holy crap, I can't believe this place has three stars. I have frequented most places in Avalon and universally most of them are the equivalent to whatever fast food restaurant you last ate at then came home threw up from food poisoning. This place is no exception, not surprised  as the owner has multiple establishments serving frozen fish fillets, minute rice and Jolly Green Giants winter blend all coming your way via waiter that could care less about you yet expects a 20% gratuity. The food at this restaurant is some of the poorest quality, poorest prepared **** I have ever eaten. I do not believe I was there on an off night, the food lacks quality, the chefs are...... family trained perhaps, from a cousins, cousin friend and lack culinary skill. Any review that includes more than one star meant that large quantities of alcohol may have been involved while dining, that would be the only explanation that would make any kind of sense, I keep giving Avalon restaurants chances and they keep turning my face green and my stomach screaming from the foreign entity in my body trying to pass for food.

The view here is incredible. You get an especially good view because the restaurant is on the second floor above some shops. I sat outside on the patio with my lovely girlfriend, and we could see the whole bay.  We ordered the ahi tacos, which were great.

The food is not super pricey, considering they were island prices. Our waiter was very friendly.

The food here is good, but not great. Come here for the view.

Kind of at the end of the main area by the beach, located upstairs.  Its so weird, it has an ocean view but its at a very awkward angle.  If you sit inside at the bar you even have less of a view.  The bar service was slow even though they weren't busy.  The were not rude or anything but not friendly.  Plenty of other good places to go, don't waste your time here.

I would definetly eat here again! The atmosphere is beautiful... sit outside if its not too cold... The food was great...  The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is because the waiters could be more friendly. They provided great service... It would have been nice if they were alittle more interactive with our table...

I wanted Mexican, the wife wanted seafood.  The kids, well, they didn't care, they were just hungry.  We checked Yelp for the one Mexican restaurant I saw, Mi Casita, and the reviews were poor.  The reviews seemed okay for this place, and after walking into a shop and this place being recommended, we decided to try it.  We were not disappointed.
I had chicken enchilidas, which were good, not great.  The kids had tacos which they chowed down.  The wife had a seafood pasta which was killer!  It was better than mine.  The margaritas were good and the view was beautiful.  We all got what we wanted and were happy.  A little pricey, I thought, but hey, we're in Catalina, right?

great location and good drink service. Food (mushrooms and Pizza) was horrible - could not eat the pizza that lacked any flavor. Read the yelp reviews after leaving there - big mistake. Would not go back again.

We had our wedding reception here. They set up the tables and decorations the way we wanted them and there was plenty of space to dance. The only problem was that the food was running late but overall the experience was good. The prices for the reception were reasonable and the atmosphere was great. I highly recommend the bacon wrapped jalapenos they are stuffed with cream cheese, it was delicious. The fettucini alfredo and chicken piccata was also good. It is also ocean view in certain areas which was nice. If you are looking for a nice place near the beach for a reception or large party on a budget, check out the landing.

On a recommendation from a local shop employee, my wife and I had our anniversary dinner here. We had scoped out other recommendations and found their prices didn't match our desired spend.
Let me start by saying I will go back to the Landing. I've not hit all of Avalon's eateries, but I have heard many people disparage the choices. I had no problem with my slice of Ahi... Except that I failed to order it just barely seared. It was a little more cooked than I like it. Still, the flavor and presentation was solid. My wife had fettuccine which was al dente and tasty.  The drinks were a solid pour and the service was great... But the view was really the cherry on top of that sunday.
We ate, drank, exchanged dedications of love and kissed the puffer fish on the way out. I'll post a pic and I will be back. Thank you Landing B&G!

We decided to stop by The Landing for happy hour. The view is stunning, with panoramic views of the marina and harbor.
The food was okay. I had the chili relleno and by fiancee had the enchiladas. The portions were perfect, but the prices were a little high. The service was great at first but then we sat for a good 10-15 minutes just waiting for the check. The deck was closed off for a wedding reception and the staff seemed to be busy with that.

Service was a little slow the food was very so so. It just didn't seem fresh.  Won't be back as there are lots of other options for the price. Nice view but bad food.   Ribs were dry, fish wasn't cooked well.  The only thing worth eating was the clam chowder.

OK, keep in mind that every time I come here, it's after spending a few hours crossing the channel in an outrigger canoe, so I'm usually dead tired and hungry by the time we walk all the steps up to get here.

This place really isn't bad (by Avalon standards). It's definitely not awesome, either. Just OK. However...when you're hungry and tired from paddling across the Catalina Channel in a canoe, any food or drink you get is welcome, to say the least. The view is superb. The ahi isn't too shabby. Chips and salsa are great...but how can you really mess that up, right? Service is just OK. If this place were on the mainland, it probably would be on par with a Chili's or Applebee's.

I'm with everyone else: come for the view and drinks and you'll probably come out ahead.

Had lunch here while in Avalon.  Outdoor patio has nice view of bay, but food (apart from the guacamole) is nothing special.  You might consider as a lunch spot if you're visiting Catalina.

We ate here twice on our trip, once for dinner and once for lunch. During dinner there was a gentleman inside playing guitar and we sat on the patio where we could hear him and look out over the harbor, it was great! Food was good both times we visited, not the best we had on the island but very decent. The waiters were all nice and helpful! I enjoyed this place very much!

    Food= 1 star, Drinks and View = 3 stars.

When husband and I have spent all day drinking and sunning, we stumble here for a forgettable dinner. Why? Because we won't remember the food, that's why, and I don't like to waste drunken blackout meals on food that deserves respect.  We save the "good eating" on Catalina for breakfast or more reserved evenings.

But if we're wasted, we'll come here to enjoy the view, have some more drinks, get silly, ultimately take a few upskirt shots with his camera phone that I won't remember till later, and then stumble on out, away from our barely-touched, mediocre Trader Joe's frozen food and bad service.  Who cares!

A word of caution - the restrooms are shared with the plaza downstairs and are usually vile. Another good reason to not remember this place.

But we do love that view.... at least, it looks great on his camera phone the next morning...

Sadly the spectacular view of Avalon's harbor is no match for the dismal service and mediocre yet overpriced food to be found at The Landing.  My boyfriend and I dined here at our last night in Catalina much to our regret.  We began our disappointing dining experience with the mushroom caps with ahi tuna and spinach  The spinach was overcooked, the mushroom wasn't cooked at all, and if the tuna in this $14 sadness didn't come from a Starkist can then I'm a mongoose.  For the record, I am not now nor have I ever been a mongoose.  We found ourselves wishing the spinach was in fact seaweed - at least then it would had some salt!  For our main course I ordered the pasta primavera and my boyfriend had the steak fajitas.  We almost felt bad for ordering and interrupting everyone's (including the cook's) texting activity.  The vegetables in my pasta primavera consisted of broccoli, (undercooked) carrots, and zucchini - I could have done without the carrots with some peas instead.  Although the beef in my boyfriends fajitas was overcooked, he described the dish as decent.   We should have taken the empty restaurant as a sign of the disappointing fare.  Oh, and I almost forgot, I found plastic wrap in both my salad and the pasta!  As if I had any doubt about the freshness quality of our meal...

All in all my advice is to not drop your anchor at The Landing.  I should say that one whole star for this rating is because of the view however, great views of the harbor can be found elsewhere and you can eat right off the pier and beach at a lot of different venues with better food/service- go there instead.

We went here for a friend's birthday.  It wasn't packed at all, so the service was pretty quick.  The menu is decently priced, and the food serving is big. You really get your monies' worth here.  Not to mention, the view when you're seated on the upstairs terrace - gorgeous!   It's not much of a site to look at when you pass by it, but definitely worth trying if you're on the island.

The food is good here but the customer service is horrible. Everything took forever.
I waited 10 min for the menu
15 min till they take my order and 15 min after I finish eating to get the bill

Four stars just for the awesomely sweet Oyster shooter that I had! spiced just right with the perfect amount of vodka, the oyster floating in my shot was a generous size!! So fresh and sweet.

3.5 stars for the Ahi taco.  Slightly overdone and served with melted cheese on top. I would have preferred a "cleaner" tasting taco...

    Great views, attentive service.

    The abridged version:

    - Came for lunch, great view on the upstairs terrace.
    - Had the whole terrace to ourselves so service was superb!
    - Ordered an Arnold Palmer to drink; first round was a perfect blend of classic lemonade and ice tea.  But after that the ratios got a bit murky and was just ok.  Don't know if different people made them???
    - Got the Grilled Ahi Burger (seared) and a bowl of their "Catalina" clam chowder (about 15.50 for both).  Both were pretty damn good. I really liked the seared ahi, which was a nice chunk of fish!

The place wasn't crowded like the other places along the main strip closer to the heart of the downtown.  So if you want seafood and a view, give this place a try for lunch.  I'm guessing the prices are a bit more for dinner.

The Landing is one of our favorite spots on the island to grab some drinks, kick back, and enjoy the view. We stopped in looking for something small... and ended up with an 18" pepperoni pizza! For a Mexican-themed restaurant, the pizza was surprisingly good. A little greasy, but loaded with with pepperonis and very satisfying. Service was good as well. I haven't been to Antonio's so I don't have any reference point as to who has the best pizza on the island, but this pie was pretty good.

The Landing was an unexpected little gem my GF and I stumbled on about 10pm while strolling around Catalina. Even thought it was late and the kitchen was 20 minutes from closing, they welcomed us in with open arms and offered to let us sample the tap beers we weren't familiar with (they serve in frozen pint glass BTW). We ended up ordering a 9" pizza and some nachos and both were really damn good. Their indoor bar faces the window and has a nice view of the water and boats outside. People (and the food obviously) make you want to return to a restaurant, and our first experience here was cool so we'll for sure stop by again some time.

Worst restaraunt on the island!!! Bad service!!! Took forever to get a drink or our food and order taken.  People had to literally walk out!!!  People were looking  real crazy at the waiters... I do not recommend this place at all... its too bad all they had was a nice view...

Our third stop after getting off the boat and dropping our bags off at the hotel was to take the shuttle back into town and find some food.

We walked around for a bit, soaked in the Island views, and decided on this place for dinner which was clearly a mistake and a let down for our first adventure on Catalina Island. Customer service here is non-existent.  We sat for 30 minutes until we got noticed, drink orders were taken (which took another 10 minutes arrive) and we had only ordered water at this point.

The rest of the time floated by mostly like this and complaints from nearby tables were audible - where's our bill? when will our food arrive? etc. We were all the same misery together but at least we had lively company.

I ordered the grilled chicken tacos and my Valentine got the swordfish. Neither were seasoned so we found ourselves wishing for some sort of spice but we only had the salt and pepper at the table. The highlights were the Pina Coladas and the chips and salsa appetizer. The salsa was chunky and had a great spicy kick to it - we enjoyed that.

Other than that, I think people enjoy this place for its drinks and view of the water.  Food isn't exactly a star here.

Dont let the empty restaurant fool you. this place has Awesome food at a decent price. The steamed mussels were delicious as was the bread it came with. The oysters rockefeller were so delish w/ the bits of bacon. Best I ever had. Would definitely go here again. Best seafood on the island! sit outside and get a view of the ocean.

View was great - I would agree with the people who say go here for drinks but elsewhere for food.

The service was not very good.  I asked for a napkin, and then when he was gone I realized that we did not have silverware either.  He came back with napkins.  I wondered to myself how a waiter could forget plate settings, especially after a guest had already asked for a napkin.  Anyway....

First course was the clams.  Not a good start-they were horrible.  A lot of shells had no meat and the ones that did-suuuper small.  At $15, I don't recommend anyone make the same mistake I did.

I will say, however, that the swordfish was pretty awesome.  Melt in your mouth kind of awesome.  However, I heard that the whole area was carrying fresh swordfish, so probably would go somewhere else next time.

All in all not a horrible experience, but not great either.

A group of us rolled in at dinner time, we were seated pretty quick as the place was not filled.  We were seated out on what was a stair landing and I though great, we're gonna get runned over with constant foot traffic.  Thankfully this didn't happen, there was just the occasional waiter/waitress or a busboy.

Our server was friendly and did the norm coming by, yet it did take some time to get refils of my icetea.  I had linguini and it was served hot!  It was perfecet portioned and consistent sause, my dish hit the spot and was a decent price for being on the island.

We were lucky that the night was warm from santa ana winds, bring a jacket cuz for sure it would be cold any other night as our area, at least, didn't have over head heaters and I didn't see any around.

I came on my lunch break during rehearsals for grease, and the first thing we noticed was the beautiful view and setting. I ordered Ice tea, and something roast beef sandwich a half dozen oyster for an appetizer. The oysters were small but fresh, very good. and teh sandwich was a little soggy to to the aus jus... it was good, but a bit messy... over all it was great, only downside was the bill, I ended up paying like 32 bucks for that meal... so good food but pretty pricey...

My boyfriend and I decided to check out The Landing after it was suggested to us by a friend of ours.  We stopped by early when we were out on a walk to be sure we could secure a table on the patio for later.  The view is lovely and the hostess was very helpful in making the reservation.  Imagine our surprise when we returned for our reservation to find that no table had been reserved.  The one we were sat at wasn't set, was set far back from the ocean view, and one of the chairs was placed on an uneven plank walkway.   We were ignored for a while and eventually left to find a different place to eat.  Overall, I would have to say that this place has a lot of potential, but needs to first have all its wait staff go through a service training.

So, I decided to go for the ambience and chose Landing Bar and Grill for lunch based on the yelp reviews. It's past the row of restaurants on Crescent Ave. and about a 15 minute walk from the Mole terminal. A bit of a trek to get to the restaurant (lots of stairs up) and at 11AM, it wasn't too crowded and we were promptly seated outside in the patio overlooking the water. We ordered burgers (it was that burger crave) and crab cakes for appetizers. Crab cakes tasted more or less like fried pah-jun (korean pancake)- I don't think i tasted much crab but the crispiness of the cakes dipped in tartar sauce hit the spot. Burgers were ok- not comparable to in-n-out and a bit pricey at $9 (but we are in Catalina). Service was ok. Overall, ok food but nice ambience for those wanting to enjoy the ocean view and breeze.

Like the other reviewers, I too sat on the patio and enjoyed one of the best views there are to have on the island.  There are only a handful of restaurants on the island that offer an elevated view of the harbor and this is one of them.  My date and I ate at noon on a Sunday and enjoyed the food and the breeze.  I had the Reuben sandwich and my date had the Ahi tacos.  Both she and I agreed that the food was pretty good.

I wish that the outside heaters were more effective and that the staff checked on you more than once throughout the meal.  My date complained that her wine was too cold and indeed the glass was nearly frozen to the touch.  I believe that they keep there wine cooler/refrigerator too cold or store the wine in a walk-in fridge.

Those minor complaints aside, I did like this place and I'd go back for lunch or dinner.

Food - just OK, nothing to write home about, but it'll suffice.  I tried the crab cakes, clam chowder and Pasta Basilico.

Drinks - I recommend the margaritas on the rocks

Ambiance - GREAT!  Ask to be seated on the outside patio - great views of the bay and perfect photo op!

Service - our waitress was very pleasant and easy going

There was a wedding there today with a mariachi band and it lent a beautiful 'backdrop' to our dinner.

This was our "fancy dinner" out.  I ordered the filet mignon, which was pretty good.  The restaurant looked over Avalon and we had a perfect table in the corner of the balcony.

The appetizer of calamari was phenomonal and the clam chowder was delicious.  I am generally a pretty slow eater and even moreso when it is a 'romantic night out'... the wait staff was really really accomdating to this and let us be.

I've had better food, but I really liked the atmosphere of The Landing and their staff.

To be fair I didn't order any seafood or grilled items so I didn't order their specialties but a good restarant should put effort into their entire menu or don't have it on the menu at all.

I thought to food was OK.  The pizza was average.  They had interesting pizzas, (I had a greek pizza) but I didn't like the crust very much and the crust is a integral part of the pizza. The staff was very friendly but I didn't think the place had a great vibe.

    Vegetarian Rating: 3/5 Good selection
