It appears Landlocked is closed and a place called MIchael J's (italian) is coming into the same location.

Started by bringing the wrong beer, something I can get by usually. Then advertised a gluten free menu, my fiancée ordered a GF item that was brought with bread on the plate. When she said she couldn't eat it they needed an explanation of what GF was. Brought me a hamburger instead of a portobello burger, then the waitress blamed it on the new cook not knowing the menu. I don't mind the burger mix up, but anyone with Celiacs knows what can happen with gluten contamination. Offering GF dishes but not knowing what that means is completely irresponsible considering how sick people can get.

I completely understand mix ups, but the lack of education and mistakes on every aspect is inexcusable.

USED TO BE GOOD!  Moved from original location and forgot to take the service, good food, and craft beers.  Bar area has 4 bar stools under a large air duct and 1 craft beer to choose from. Bar tender service was slow and rude.  The new menu combines the former Rickshaw and Landlocked leaving out the old best items like fish tacos and paella. Service was SLOW! Band was playing on the patio but stuck in a corner by the entry stairs where no one could see or hear them.  Hope thay make some improvements because they have a long ways to go to get back to where they were at the old location.

Worst food I have had in Ruidoso. Dear lord it's bad. Everything thing was cold and/or microwaved. Do not go!

I'm done!  Fool me twice and I'm pissed off.  OK...my fault for taking nasty bait twice, but if you look at the menu you can see that they state thier chicken fried steak is better than that made in Texas (since most visitors are from texas you'd think they would mean it)

I have reviewed this place before.  I gave it 3 stars.  I rescind that now.  I was very upset at my last meal last year because I ordered the Chicken fried steak based on the fact that the menu said it was fresh and better than the 600,000 served daily in Texas, and the waitress had said it was FRESH not frozen, but it was frozen and jr high cafeteria quality at that.  Mushy, formed and disgusting.  The manager stated he AGREED last year that it shouldn't be on the menu but the owner wanted a fried steak and refused to make it fresh (ummm...its not seafood, its beef..plenty of fresh beef in the southwest mister owner).

So for 12.00 last year i got burned.  This year i was told that it was fresh, they had revamped the menu and it was now great.  And it cost 1.00 more at 13.00.  I ordered it and the same DAMN NASTY SOFT FORMED FROZEN GROSS JR HIGH QUALITY PATTY CAME OUT!!!!!  This is one of the most expensive chicken fried steaks I have ever paid for to be a 1.25 frozen patty!  RIDICULOUS! I WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER GO BACK TO A PLACE THAT LIES TO YOUR FACE!

I told the manager AGAIN and again he offered a free dessert.  We've had your desserts, they aren't that good either, so no thank you.

Eat here if you wish, just realize your paying a lot (this is one of the more expensive restauants in town) for subpar food.  Your better off at the Cattle Baron (atleast you KNOW the salad bar there rocks and thier chicken fried steak is actually good).

I'm going to dissect in detail the food that we ordered.

Artichoke Spinach Dip:  This dip tasted really good and it was served piping hot.  The traditional and blue tortilla chips that came with it appeared to be homemade with just enough salt.

Side Salads:  Definitely your bagged garden salad that you find at the supermarket.  In this particular instance it had a couple more days of life left in it before it was to go completely bad.

Landlocked Shrimp:  Just terrible.  It was just bacon wrapped shrimp not done very well. There was no flavor of the orange tequila sauce cooked in the shrimp.  I couldn't even taste the salt in the bacon, blah.  The "calabacitas" that accompanied this dish was pan fried zucchini, yellow squash and corn--really?  It was mostly burnt.  The rice had to be Uncle Ben's wild rice or worse....absolutely no seasoning.  I asked the server what seasonings were in the rice he stated "I don't know.  I've never been asked that before."

Teriyaki Salmon:  When I bake salmon, it usually is a pale pink.  This salmon was Pepto Bismol pink and tasted extra fishy.  The teriyaki flavor was just the same as you would get any place else

The service was very spotty.  At the very end, a restaurant worker (manager?) came to our table and asked us about our meal.  We told him that the fish was nothing special and that there was no flavor to the shrimp.  I also suggested they put some real crab in the dip and it would be a real winner.  He was very apologetic about the food and offered us a free dessert, we declined.  However, he was very optimistic about adding crab to the artichoke  spinach dip.

All in all I gave one star for the dip and one star to the "manager" because he was not offended when we told him about his food and he offered a free dessert.

By all means, try at your own risk!

My wife and ate here twice while on a trip in May.  Both times we had the Landlocked Shrimp, which are prawns wrapped in bacon with a special orange sauce on top of rice.  It also came with a salad.  For dessert, we shared a mocha kahlua mousse cake.  This food was fantastic.  I rarely give a restaurant 5 stars,  but they deserve it for these two items.  That's why we returned to the restaurant for the identical meal.

Before writing this review, I read some of the reviews from others, and want to bring up one point that seemed to bother people:  yes, the seafood is frozen. It HAS to be. Ruidoso is just not close enoughto the ocean to have anything fresh.
Now to my comments - the salmon is outstanding. But I have an issue with the service. Too slow, inattentive, and forgetful. I don't think I will go back.

seated at the bar you can see several draft tabs, and two large stainless tubs full of ice and beer...great selection. also, fairly good wine list.
menu offers a variety of items. i choose guacamole w/blue corn chips as appit. and it was very good and not expensive.
entree was fish tacos...made with salmon and delicious!
service was very good and the "natives" at the bar were friendly and talkative.
    would recommend without a doubt.

Food was excellent!!  Seating arrangement was rather odd but I would recommend this place based on their food alone!

Since we always like Casa Blanca, we thought we'd try their sister restaurant, Landlocked. There was a short wait when we arrived, but the reasonably priced drinks at the bar and the live classical guitar were delightful. The upstairs deck seating was perfect on a cool summer evening, and our server was friendly. Service was slow on our appetizers, and there was evidently a problem with our order. But hey- it's vacation and a beautiful evening. The wait wasn't so terrible.

I like the way the menu features a variety of regional dishes. There is truly something for almost everyone. I had the green chile stew, and it was pleasantly spicy. Others at my table had the Cajun chicken salad, the Baja fish tacos, and the tacos al carbon. Everyone left satisfied.

I'll be going back for more! Excellent food and service. My husband had chile rub pork which was very tasty with some kick. I had the southwest salmon. Excellent flavor although a little well done. I'd recommend the salad with dill dressing. The calabicitas was yummy. And save room for the tres leches cake. As you can see, we loved every bite!

Excellent food, decent prices -- a little higher than Ruidoso average, but the food is way above average.  The garlic bread is amazing, be sure to get that.  This restaurant is very close to 5 stars IMO.  We will definitely come back!

Great friendly staff, very nice place. Only has beer and wine, no hard stuff. Needs more local selections on tap.

Randy and I were in Ruidoso for a few days with the hiking club and this joint was recommended to us by a local. WOW, Were we impressed. We had Red chili rubbed pork loin and a Portebello mushroom burger. Both of them were just great. The vegetable side for the pork loin was sauteed yellow and green squash and corn with a light sauce. Super.

We went back the next day and had the Wednesday Fish & Chips special. The lightly battered Swai was just right.

I typically don't give out five stars for establishments without white linens and multiple courses, but after our past few experiences at Landlocked, I simply can't resist.

The boyfriend and I were in town for a long Memorial Day Week-End of backpacking with the dogs, but a busy Friday work schedule in Dallas and some key items accidentally left in storage back in Massachusetts rendered a car-camping-style trip more appropriate. Sans food (which we didn't have time to buy, save energy bars and trek mixes), which means that both dinners, after long days of hiking, were had in town. Which was fine, as we cleaned up nice enough for the laid-back tourist town. Our first night there, we were ravenous and eagerly anticipating a meal at Casa Blanca. But we encountered an hour wait. Starving, I suggested we go to the hole-in-the-wall (seeming) dive bar next door for what I assumed would be a heavy but filling burger or fish'n'chips. What surprise to encounter an establishment with truly wonderful regional dishes and an extremely impressive wine and beer list!

Great, personable, knowledgeable service aside (we were made to feel welcome in our hiking gear from the get-go), the food was fresh, flavorful, and filling. So much so that, on our second night in Ruidoso (and this is truly out of character for two adventurous guys), we opted to eat at Landlocked AGAIN instead of trying one of the other restaurants in town! Both nights we ordered the Chipotle Hummus (delicious and rustic) and a dessert (a mascarpone berry torte the first night and a triple chocolate cake the second, both STUNNING, especially considering my usual aversion to dessert), interspersed with Pollo Asado (bright, crisp flavors and the freshest tomatoes I've ever eaten in a restaurant), the Relleno, the burger with a green chili (how can you go wrong?), and the Cajun Chicken Salad (wonderful, fresh, and perfectly seasoned to clear your sinuses).

The atmosphere was eclectic and casual, itself making the place sophisticated in an unpretentious way. There was live music on Saturday that was never too loud as to interrupt conversation. I was shocked that Landlocked was all of this after judging it by the exterior, and will stop in at least once every time I'm in Ruidoso again!

Every time I walk in here the staff makes me feel like a disease. It seems impossible to get a seat at the bar; apparently you have to make a reservation? My friends and I have walked out more than once upon coming here. However, I was dying for some fish 'n chips and kept hearing good things about theirs. After getting past the hostile hostess station, we were sat downstairs and had the friendliest service ever... which almost made up for the rest of the front of the house. The fish 'n chips were delicious, but the price was a little high for the serving size. I prefer smaller portions, but it'd be nice if they were priced appropriately. A side note: my friend got Moose Drool, which tasted nothing like Moose Drool. It was extremely disappointing.

Edit: After re-reading this, I realized it sounded as if I were hoping to taste an actual moose's drool. That is not the case. The Moose Drool on tap tasted nothing like bottled Moose Drool. I feel better now.

My husband & I were on vacation a week ago and had been told this was a great place to eat. The outside is not what I would call appealing, but once you are inside it is very nice. We had a great appetizer, spinach and artichoke dip, it was very yummy!! I had fish tacos and my husband had a chile relleno and they were both very tasty! I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! Awesome food and staff and the sangria's were also great!! also you could wear dress clothes or jeans in this place.
