This hotel is about as rustic as you can get. The rooms are very basic - no fridge, no coffee maker, no phone, etc. They do have decent bathrooms, good heaters and quiet privacy.
There is no internet service, but there is a strong cel phone signal all around the hotel complex.
This is a very old establishment - the manager told us that it was originally opened almost a hundred years ago. There are photos in the game room that show the hotel, store and restaurant from the 1930's, and the place really hasn't changed much.
They do internet reservations, or you can call to make an advance reservation. They are very nice and helpful on the phone. There are not too many places to stay near Lassen Park, but this hotel is very close and convenient, a few miles from the park entrance.
We had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant for 3 days and the food was excellent. Each meal was carefully prepared with fresh ingredients. Portions were very generous and the prices are fair. The service was very good and these folks are really friendly.
All in all, this is a nice place to stay with good service. It ain't the Ritz, but more of a time capsule of a simpler time. If you can stay in a simple, clean room with no amenities but lots of good scenery, this will work for you.

hubby and i stayed at the mineral lodge for two nights as we went into lassen park to see the sights.  we ate a couple of breakfasts and a couple of dinners at the mineral lodge restaurant.

the lodging was good. comfortable, clean and rustic. we enjoyed being away from the noise of tv and other electronic connections.

the food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. each of our meals was prepared with the freshest of foods and was so very tasty. salads, soups, beef burger, trout burger, chicken tenders, sausage, bacon, eggs, everything was terrific.

all in all, we were VERY happy with the accommodations and meals.

I stayed here for three nights while I did a bunch of day hikes in Lassen Volcanic National Park.  It consists of a motel, a restaurant, and a small market/gift store.  I  had a little trouble finding the place because my GPS wanted to put it in an entirely different spot on Hwy 36 (and 15 miles away) so take care that you have good directions.

First off, the lodge.  Check in was quick and pleasant.  My first impression upon getting to my room was:  brown, brown, brown.  Brown walls, brown carpet, brown furniture, brown linoleum, odd brown stains in the sink.  The carpet is new but nothing else is.  It looks like it was last remodeled 40 years ago when floor to ceiling paneling was all the rage.  There are few amenities.  No phone, no TV, no internet.  There was an ice bucket but no place to get ice that I could find.  There were a couple of bars of soap but no shampoo or conditioner.   There was no way to make tea or coffee.  No fridge.  No microwave.  The thermostat did not appear to work.  The room was good sized though and the bed was comfortable.  The place is generally clean and it is quiet at night and quite restful.  I felt safe here and felt like it was safe to leave my stuff here during the day.  The nearest gas is 30 miles away.  The general store sells food, beer, liquor, gift store stuff, and various things you might need (maps, flashlights, trail mix, shampoo).  It is an inexpensive place to stay though, and it is very convenient to the park.  Also, there is a ton of history here and that has to count for something.  There are some really interesting old photos scattered around the place.  The restaurant and store could open a bit earlier.  There is so much driving here it would be nice to be able to get on the road a tad quicker in the morning.

Next the restaurant:  This place was a god-send, especially since there is pretty much nothing else for 30 miles.  The food was filling and tasty and inexpensive.  The staff was nice and the service was quick, even though everyone in the restaurant seemed to have some hand in watching one of the staff's adorable 14 month old daughter.  I had breakfast and dinner there all three days and never had a bad meal.  The garlic fries were especially good and were a nice side to the garden burger.   The salmon salad is just a piece of grilled salmon laid on top of mesclun with some tomatoes and onion slices but the Italian dressing tasted homemade and the salmon was nicely done.  The tomato-basil with ravioli soup special is really good and really filling.  Be sure and get it if it is the soup of the day.  They also have a good selection of local microbrews (Lost Coast, Mt. Shasta, Sierra Nevada, etc) and a small but good wine list (more than merlot and chardonnay).  There is a very nice patio to eat out if the weather is good.  The staff arefriendly and pretty efficient, even if they sometimes forget to bring condiments right away.  All in all it was a very pleasant place to eat after  hiking all day and they have good hearty breakfasts to prepare you for hiking.
There is also a game room in the restaurant, with books and videos.  There is a bar that is open on Saturdays that I did not get to check out but from looking in the windows it appears well-stocked.  It's probably the most lively weekend thing to do for miles.

If you are like me and don't camp but want to have a place to stay convenient to the National Park this would be a good option.  Just look past the retro-chic decor of the room and enjoy the comfortable bed, the cool air from the window, the excellent hot shower, and the hearty food and good company down at the restaurant.

We ate here last week.  9 of us came in for lunch after a morning of hanging around the Sulphur Works, working up an appetite ;-)  Service was very friendly, the quality of the food was excellent.  Salads were fresh, crisp and cold.  My wife had real turkey in her salad, and my grilled ham and cheese had real ham (not deli meat).  Would definitely go back if we camp in Lassen again.

I have a so-so review for this restaurant.  Let me tell you this - after a day's trip the food served here was exceptionally great at a remote place like Mineral.  The place was packed and its a family run business so few people serving you.  Its quite understandable that the service is slow and takes about 20 mins to half hour from ordering to food arriving at the table.   Cell phone signal is really good over here.
They have outdoor seating during non-snowing season and the patio is filled with home grown vegetables.. saw couple of tomatoes, banana peppers and other flowers being planted.
We ordered spaghetti and grilled chicken breast.  The bread was fresh from the oven and soft.  Their portions were big enough for one adult.  Also they have a game room with pool table, some video game console, books, TV (this is the only TV all over the lodge).  They let you borrow the books, board games coz there are no other entertainment. Breakfast service is even slower but completely acceptable given the holiday season.  I would recommend this place for grabbing a bite but for staying... umm no!

Me and 13 Snowshoeing Adventurers showed up here after a chilly snowing shoeing  outting.  The weather had been so bad, we could not shoe in Lassen up from visitor center because of avalanche danger!  So you get the feeling of day we were out and about in!  But we had fun in the forest below Lassen Park!
The restaurant was about full and they accomodated our group to fill the house.  We knew we had to wait, but nobody was in a hurry.
We had terrific Buffalo Burgers and service!
I love the old pics on wall and fun things to look at!  They have board games to socially interact with one another where we played "Clue".
    So fun!
    Thanks Mineral Lodge!

We LOVED Lassen Mineral Lodge.  We spent the days in the Park, but we would get a lunch to go for the hikes.   We always had breakfast and dinner at the lodge and it was ALWAYS GOOD!!!  We will stay there again next summer and do more hiking at Lassen Park!!!    Also the staff was ALWAYS really friendly and very helpful if you had any questions about anything.

    We will stay there again...

    Thanks

    Bud and Anne.

I loved staying at this Lodge. It had a great store and a good restaurant with homey music and a fabulously filling Garden Burger. The waitresses were very friendly and helped my mother and I to decide among the delicious ice cream choices. One of the highlights of the visit was walking just a bit beyond the lodge to see a great view of the stars.

We stayed overnight at the lodge and enjoyed both breakfast and dinner here.  At dinner my steak was a perfect medium rare.  No complaints other than some mediocre side veggies.  Breakfast menu is basic but satisfying.  My folks liked it as well.  My mom's trout was tasty.  I would recommend this place.

We stopped here to get a bite to eat, were excited about the wide range of menu options, and were then disappointed to wait...and wait...and wait.

Since we were driving for some time before we hit a restaurant we could eat at, we were hoping for prompt service. Having been a waitress at one time myself I would have understood if they had been busy and understaffed, but this was not the case.

This was beyond poor service. Both servers looked at us, made eye contact, and then continued to service the other tables who really didn't need anything. (Can I get you anything else? Would you like some dessert?...No, No...)

No hello. No "I'll be right with you." No "Can I get you something to drink?" This went on for at least ten to fifteen minutes while they continued to attend to the other tables. One customer I could understand because they were serving them food, so I waited until they brought out all the plates, giving them one more chance to attend to our table. The other table was done eating. And the third had paid their bill and left. Inside, I don't remember exactly if there were any customers, but if there were, it was almost empty.

The food presentation looked lovely. If you could ever get anyone to take your order!

We made eye contact with both servers on the patio on several occasions. Every time they came back outside they basically ignored us.

After waiting a bit longer, would you believe they went back out to the same table to ask if everything was okay there? Hello! I got up to leave, that was the last straw for me.

By this time another couple had sat down without anyone bringing them menus or stopping by to get their drink order. The hostess in the indoor area probably didn't bother to get up from her laptop. I had specifically asked to see the menu since I have dietary limitations so she had given us ours. But this couple sat bewildered for a few minutes. I gave them my menu as I was walking out.

Finally, the server asked "Are you moving?" No, we are leaving. When we explained that we had been waiting the server hadn't a clue.

I hope the other couple did better than us.

I have never walked out of a restaurant before. So I have to say this was pretty bad. In fact I would say it was beyond bad, it was just plain rude. They're the only game in town, and it shows. We went up to the cafe inside the National Park instead. I would strongly encourage others to do the same or visit nearby Chester for meals.

This is not really a bad place to stop if you are in the Lassen area. There are not too many choices out here. Its basically a motel and restaurant along with a little gift shop. We stopped in for breakfast. I've been through this town many times and have stopped here just once. I ordered the french toast for $5.79 and my BF had the Country Fried Steak for $8.99. I don't know why restaurants commonly call it "Country Fried" instead of Chicken Fried. Maybe cause people think they are getting chicken instead of beef. Anyhow, my french toast was nice and cooked properly, and the CFS was good, not as good as the best, but pretty good. Coffee was standard coffee and the service was normal in timing and friendliness. I would stop here again.

You won't find many restaurants or cafes near Lassen National Volcanic Park, but thankfully the restaurant at the Mineral Lodge offers a great menu and great food at a reasonable price.

Located a few miles from the southern park entrance, on the main road which heads west towards the I80 and the San Francisco bay.
