Really hit or miss. We knew it was a bar and grill and went on Sunday June 21, 2013. I was with my husband, brother in law and we waited for my sister to arrive. Service was slow, told it was a busy Sunday. We sat outside and ordered drinks and apps to start. Both were slow to arrive. In the mean time, we watched a rude band member interact with seated customers that she wanted to move. All contributed to the chaotic feeling.
The apps: grilled jalapenos were great, poppers OK. Â I ordered the green chili (not that good) and the fried clam strips (way over fried and I was trying for simple and fast). Husband had a burger and it was ok. Greek chicken wrap looked good. All in all, just acceptable food for 4 people @$60 plus tip.
I've been going to Roy's since he opened many years ago. Â Over the long haul it has been a great place to go. He has a large menu with a very wide variety of food. He serves breakfast all day, too. the pizza can't be beat, especially the crust. He even has "Pooch Patio" where you can bring your dog and get an entree for him/her too! Â They recently added a grocery store with camping supplies, too. Â The owners try hard to meet the needs of the locals and are also good community members. Â I love Roy's Last Shot.
Review Source:I've been here twice now, once for just a drink and some warming up by the fireplace and again for lunch. Note, the fireplace puts out a lot of heat!
While my salad and the chilis were both good, the fish we ordered from the special menu was not...one piece was served still partly frozen, or something. It was oddly firm and not flaking like the other pieces. Thankfully we tried that piece last so the whole meal was not shot. Otherwise though, I think I'd stick to less adventurous food here. I've only been in the winter, I hope that if we make it up in the summer the salad bar will be open and good.
You'll enjoy the patio, occasionally with live music. Friendly bar and restaurant during the day, have not been up at night. They'll soon open a grocery right around back. Convenient! There aren't a lot of grocery options along Peak to Peak.
We will generally stop here after camping for breakfast. Â It is an interesting place. Â I think that it would make an even better bar than restaurant, but I don't live up that way so I really don't know.
The food was just fine, service was similar. Â It is your basic family friendly road stop. Â I saw lots of locals talking with the owner or manager, it just seemed like a homey place.
Without question this is Gordon Ramsey's "Kitchen Nightmares." Â I live right around the corner and figured I'd give this place a shot. Â For starters the menu has way too many choices. Â I ordered the chicken fried steak, which came with a salad. Â I got the salad and it was frozen. Â There was actually ice on my plate, the garbanzo beans were frozen solid! Â When my steak arrived there was something alien on the plate, after further investigation we realized it had to be canned asparagus....I think. Â The garlic bread was frozen then microwaved or something because it was unedible. Â The chicken fried steak tasted like it was also frozen. Â It was really bad. Â The potatoes were ok and that's about all I ate. Â My friend ordered breakfast and she barely touched it. Â I would never recommend this place. Â The inside is interesting but the food is terrible. Â This was certainly my last shot here.
Review Source:This is one of my all time favorite places to eat after a day of skiing. From the road, this place looks like a hole in the wall, but don't let that fool you. They have everything you can imagine on the menu from pasta, pizza, all day breakfast, salads, and good home cooked meals. I cannot say enough positive things about this place.
Review Source:Heard about this restaurant from one of the park rangers at the Golden Gate Canyon State Park visitor's center down the road. Â It's basically a family-friendly roadhouse type restaurant. Â Good place for bikers and family's if you can imagine that. Â Real clean on the inside. Â Lots of pool tables. Â Real comfortable environment. Â The customer service is very good and attentive. Â The food quality was excellent for this type of place. Â I can tell whoever is in the kitchen takes pride in their work because the quality of the ingredients was well above what you would expect for a restaurant like this pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Â I had the pastrami reuben sandwich and it was very good. Â The onion rings were battered right and easy to eat. Â The decor is interesting. Â I think whoever owns it is from Vegas. Â Just a guess. Â Combination of shot glasses and pool tables but it's very clean and family friendly. Â Doesn't look like much on the outside but definitely worth stopping in if you're out there on 119 between Golden and Nederland. Â I didn't have the pizza but the pizza I saw others eating looked really good. Â There isn't much out there so this place is pretty much the jewel. Â There's even a drive-thru liquor store in the parking lot.
