Loved! The jalapeño encrusted yellowtail with key lime butter was out of this world. My girlfriend and I both loved it. Their sides were really good too. I had sweet potato fries and my gf had mashed potatoes. We loved it so much, we went back again the next night. Now, I can't wait to go back to the Keys for some more of this place! Also, the banana bread was great!
The only negative was waiting awhile for the host/hostess. They don't seem to pay attention when new customers come in.
I really wasn't sure what to expect; Â sure the reviews were solid and the exterior was manicured and new looking but it felt a bit touristy (although it doesn't really seem to be on the radar of most tourists, but who knows). Â
Decided to pass the hostess and check the place out first... quite nice, quite clean and whoa, what a view. Â Worth taking a table for the view alone.
They have plenty of inside dining but the decor feels cheap and unimpressive, although I'm sure it'd come in useful on those extremely hot summer days. Â The covered patio is where it's at... the area is huge with plenty of tables (all with spectacular ocean and harbor views) and the decor is just what is expected of the keys. Â The bar is equally as large and fairly busy. Â
The food was not bad but it was not good enough to recommend either. Â Perhaps dinners are more memorable, but my pops and I were here for lunch. Â We ordered a Caesar Salad with chicken (the chicken was a bit dry) and a blackened fish sandwich (large piece of fish, seasoned well and cooked right but the side of cole slaw was bland).
We may have ordered basic dishes on this visit, but I will say their menu has plenty of offerings; Â actually have a very large menu. Â (13) appetizers available, (8) salads and roughly (30) entrees. Â I did find it odd though that soda is limited to (1) refill (granted I don't order soda that seems dated).
If Lazy Days was nearby our home, then "yeah" I'd more than likely give it another shot (they have plenty of potential)... but to go out of my way, probably not.
Wow. I have to say that this is the slowest service that I've ever received. Â Five of us came in for a quick lunch on the way to Key West. We ordered 4 apps to start. First off, we got 2 guys servers. Then, when they brought out only 2 of the apps, we got a waitress. She asked what we would like to order, we told her we needed a minute so she left. We ate the apps, 30 minutes went by without anybody come by to check on us nor did the girl came back to take our order. A different guy came by to take away the empty plates, we asked the status of our other 2 apps and he asked us what we ordered. Now we know they didn't put it in. Then, it took another 20 minutes for remaining 2 apps to come out. We wanted to order more food, but nobody came by to take our order, ask us what else we wanted, or even refill our drinks, so we decided to get the check and hightailed out of there. All the servers were hanging out by the bar while we were sitting there waiting. On top of that, the food wasn't memorable. Just because the restaurant is called "Lazy Days" doesn't mean the service should be lazy.
Review Source:My husband and I dined here on a recent vacation in the Keys. We had an outdoor table overlooking the marina and arrived in time to enjoy a beautiful sunset. After ordering drinks we never felt rushed or "hassled" as mentioned in another review. Our waiter was ready to take our order immediately but, when asked, gave us plenty of time to enjoy our drinks and check out the menu before he returned. The menu was extensive, which sometimes worries me, but specials were also available. Everything we ordered was delicious. I can't say enough about the quality or presentation. The food and overall dining experience were so good we decided to return for dinner a second time rather than experiment with another restaurant.
Review Source:Looking for a place on the water with great food and service. This could be it.
Heading South and felt a little hungry. This feeling was shared by everybody riding with me. Saw the billboard and checked it out on Yelp. 10 minutes later we are seated on the water on a beautiful day.  Service was fantastic as was the food.
Remarkable items were Yellow tail snapper seasoned nicely and cooked perfect. Coconut shrimp with just the right amount of coconut and also cooked perfect. Conch fritters loaded with conch pieces and fried to a lightly chewy perfection and the banana bread, so good we ordered two loaves to take south with us. Just average was the conch salad and lentil soup. Both good but nothing special.
Would definitely come back and try other menu items. Worth a stop.
We ate there on a Sunday night. I was happy we made reservations, because it filled up quickly. Our waitress, Christina was very nice and attentive. The 4 of us covered the menu, from beef tips, chicken cordon blue, yellowtail sandwich, and grouper Lorenzo. All came with soup or salad, and a side. Portions are huge, and everything was AWESOME! My grouper was cooked just right, the key lime butter is perfect for fish, and the crab cake was the best I ever had. My husband said the same of his chicken. I could not eat all my fish, but we got a piece of key lime pie for the table. It was light, and the Graham cracker crust was perfect and fresh, not soggy. The bar pours a very generous drink. This was our favorite meal on Marathon. It was not the cheapest, but well worth it! Loved it!
Review Source:They were kind enough to seat us earlier than our appointed time, but service was slow.
I had high hopes, as this place came highly recommended by my family, and the mixed drink I ordered was tasty but also strong. So, a plus for the drinks.
My fiance ordered a pasta with a garlic-mushroom sauce that was...well...mostly a mushroom heap with a bit of garlic. For a mushroom lover, this would be a great dish. For someone who thinks they're ordering a pasta dish, it's...weird. There were two heaping handfuls, I kid you not, the equivalent of two to three full cups worth of mushrooms piled on top of the pasta. And not small pieces of mushroom, either. Slices, from tip to stem of very large mushrooms. And it was very greasy.
And I forget the name of my salad...I think it was the Key West Salad, actually...spinach topped with six whole pieces of coconut shrimp, a few strips of fried mozzarella, and some canned fruits (peaches, mandarin oranges, and something else)...honestly, this one is probably my fault, because it sounded weird on the menu, but I like all of the things individually, and I figured if it's on the menu, someone must have taken the time to figure out how to make it work out well. Nope. It must be a joke of some sort against Key West...either that, or someone more insane than me (for ordering it) actually thought it was a good idea.
Awful. Especially for the prices. Perhaps it would have been better if we'd ordered seafood, because the coconut shrimp I had were very good, but overall the meals we got were just...odd. Not horrible, but not worth the money. Any place that makes the Cheesecake Factory or Denny's look like preferable options should be rethinking their menus and/or prices.
The two things that saved this from being a total bomb: the banana bread every table receives, and the key lime pie.
My girlfriend and I came here ready for a classy, tasty dinner. First, it took 10 minutes for us to even be seated (the hostess was oddly MIA and a bus boy seated us). Then, no waiter came for another 10-15, when someone finally asked us, confused, if anyone was taking care of us.
We got two appetizers: the coconut shrimp and the conch fritters. The shrimp should have just been called "fried" because there was almost NO coconut on there at all. Neither of us could taste it. The fritters may have tasted good, we don't know, but the chewiness of each bite distracted us from any flavor. (Yes, I know that it meant they contained a lot of conch, but they were lacking flavor). The ones at King Seafood were 10x better.
We ordered the key like pie and got out of there. The pie was very good, but really the only highlight of an overall bad experience.
We've taken a sunset cruise the last two years from the dock by Lazy Days, so both times after cruisin' we also decided to have dinner here. The food is good; they offer a large selection of seafood and non-seafood items and the portions are fairly large. They also give you an entire small loaf of banana bread and other rolls with your meal which is really cool. The prices are a bit high (the average seafood dish runs about $30) so I was excited when my wife decided to get an appetizer for dinner instead of a steak dish or something as it kept the bill lower than what we paid last year, ha. Make sure to ask for a table by the water as the inside dining area reminds me of a 1980's Mexican restaurant for some reason...it's very drab inside while the outside dining area has a beautiful view of the ocean (or the gulf, I always forget which side is which in the keys). Sitting outside also allows you to think about relocating to the keys so you can have beautiful views like that everyday of your life (it's nice to dream!).
Review Source:We were driving from Miami Beach to Key West and decided to stop here for lunch. Â We were anxious to leave behind the rain and wind from Tropical Storm Isaac and enjoy the blue skies, sun and water view!
We began with the conch fritters. Â They were a really good version and the first on our trip in southern Florida.
Wife had a killer salad! Â It was called the Billings Salad (huge coconut fried shrimp, mixed greens, grapes, sliced apples, fried cream cheese, caramelized walnuts with a raspberry vinaigrette). Â It was a huge portion. Â Everything was perfect! Â I lucked out and helped her with a shrimp or two!
I went with the blackened catch of the day done Lazy Days style (panko crusted, key lime butter, parmesan cheese and scallions) on a roll with sweet potato fries. Â Next time I would just ask them to omit the cheese.
Of course we had key lime pie! Â
Service was perfect.
I would definitely stop by here for lunch again!
We arrived after the kitchen had officially closed (things close pretty early in Marathon), but they re-opened for us with the understanding that we would be quick. Â We were grateful for this, but we weren't overly impressed with the welcome.
As soon as we got outside to the table however we were greeted with other staff and were made very welcome. Â Great service and pretty good food. Â I would willingly return.
Driving back from key west we got hungry and stopped in based on other yelp reviews. Wasn't too impressed to be honest. Pretty decent but nonmemorable sandwiches. What I can imagine was delicious fresh fish was hidden away with way too much butter and a roll more than 3x as thick as the fish itself.
Would hope there are better places in marathon.
Those negative reviews must have hit this place on a bad day. I am impressed with the quality of this restaurant, which is obviously in the long line of mediocre joints catering to tourists known as US 1.
We sat outside, but the inside was simple & clean. The view outside was nice, and the ceiling fans added a nice touch to the sea breeze. We were unfortunately downwind of some rotten fish, but it wasn't in the restaurant so... can't blame them.
The buffalo shrimp were tailed, so you can eat the whole thing, but lacked much buffalo pizzaz. My wife's jalapeño crusted yellow tail was delicious, lightly battered with a panko & mild jalapeño mix that had a nice texture and mild kick. It was bathed in a key lime butter. Mine was hogfish with fresh artichokes, tomato, shrimp & scallops in a lemon butter and was truly fine. The portions were huge, and we got with soup of the day - new England Clam Chowder -- that was also nicely prepared and flavorful (but a little gritty).
The service was attentive and friendly and the total bill was about $90 for a ton of food, including 2 filling kids meals and 2 massive adult meals!
The reviews in this area are very mixed, but Lazy Days (not the RV place in Tampa) was pretty well represented. Â So we went.
Conch fritters were great. Â Much better than in Key West, and reminded me of why I liked them all these years. Â I had the surf and turf, a NY Strip and Florida lobster. Â The steak was delicious, and the lobster good, if not as sweet as cold water crustacean would have been. Â The best part about it was the pleasant surprise of a $45 charge for it. Â I was SURE it was going to be double that.
Shrimp rosada was what my daughter ordered. Â Holy smokes that stuff was good. Â As much as I enjoyed mine I wish I had ordered hers. Â Take the chance when you visit.
Fried shrimp was fresh. Â Very fresh. Â Tasted of the ocean, as it should.
If you read my reviews you know that 4 stars from me is 5 from everyone else. Â so, do yourself a favor and try out this place.
First impression wasn't great. Â Inside space when we walked in was dank. and hostess was not friendly, Â But once we were seated out on the deck, everything was great. Â Our server - a very fit woman - was fantastic and food was great. Â View outside was great too.
Conch chowder - a tomato base - was very good. Â Conch fritters had good amount of meat and nice flavor. Â Being from Rhody I consider myself a bit of a chowder and fritter connoisseur. Â These were both very good. Â
But, and this is a general comment regarding conch fritters, I don't think they should be served with cocktail or tartar sauce. Â Doesn't fit for me. Â I ate these plain and they were yummy. Â In Rhody we eat our clam cakes plain or dipped in chowder. Â I'd recommend the same for conch fritters, or perhaps, serve those conch fritters with some sort of a spicy pepper/fruity dipping sauce. Â Anyway, I digress...
Stone crab was fine, Â Grouper lazy style was excellent. Â Loved the panko crumbs and the sauce.
On a road trip to the Keys....just found this restaurant and thought we would give it a try. Â So glad...the food was AMAZING!
Tuna Salad was unbelievably fresh and probably the best Tuna I have had. Â Plenty of Tuna and nice size salad.
The Lion Juala jalpeno encrusted sandwich was great combo and the jalpeno added a perfect kick to the sandwich. Â Yummy... will be back for sure.
Is there anything about this restaurant that i didn't like at all???
We were driving down to Keywest last April, 2011 and our stomachs decided to growl... we stopped by to the local grocery store and grabbed some water, asked the lady if there is any place that she would recommend...the rest is history.
The place is by the water. Its gonna be on your left if youre driving from Miami and a little hidden, but then, the location is just breathtaking..... the water is right there!!! you can birdwatch ..or fishwatch if thats the term LOL... the sky is so blue and the wind is brushing your face....
We ordered oysters with horseradish sauce for apps, I ordered the blackened tuna with mango salsa and my friend ordered a NY strip steak which is expected to be ...u know what I mean =) !!!
I am blown away with what I ordered. The Blackened tuna has a crispy texture and just went so well with the spicy and sweet mango salsa...its so refreshing with a 100 degree weather....
The NY strip steak wasn't so bad but then, we are in Florida...by the water.=)
The KEY LIME PIE FOR dessert... this is just the best key lime pie i ever had in my life!!!!!!
Took Rsvp's at 930 on a labor day weekend. Food was decent, service was good, prices were a bit high. The location is ideal for an outdoor meal. Had their "lazy style" snapper. Fish was def fresh, wasn't too fond of the cheese. There were 5 adults and 2 kiddos tab was 201$. A bit high for the keys but hey it was cheaper than hawks cay.
Review Source:This was my first time at this Lazy Days location as I usually go to the one at MM 79.9. This one is certainly just as good as the other location and I enjoyed it immensely.
We stopped here for lunch yesterday on the way back from Key West and ordered some Banana Bread, a Grilled Grouper Sandwich and a Cripsy Fried Yellowtail Sandwich. The Banana Bread here is excellent and is the best I've had in the Keys. This is a staple when I eat here.
The Grouper sandwich was perfect. The tartar sauce that they give you with it is fantastic as well and tastes homemade. I always order the coleslaw with the meal as I am a sucker for coleslaw and Lazy Days' never fails to disappoint. I absolutely love it.
The Yellowtail Sandwich was good as well. It has a nice crispy Japanese bread crumb outer coating and the tartar sauce pairs very well with the sandwich as well.
So, if you're in the Keys and you're looking for good, high quality seafood, I highly recommend you stop into Lazy Days and enjoy a nice meal. The location at MM 79 has a much better view in my opinion, but the outdoor deck is nice at the Marathon location as well and the view is certainly not bad at all.
If my shit could swim...it would have been a reincarnated hogfish this last month.
Hogfish. Fresh Hogfish. Panko fried. In keylime butter. With parmesan cheese and scallions.
One, two, three, FOUR time delicious. That is how many times I ate there, same meal, in a month. Â
Oh, and by the way, the view is ridiculous!!
I don't care if the hostess has one eye and a turtle is your server this places food alone is worth the trip! Ate hare 3 nights in a row and it was incredible - I highly recommend the broiled seafood platter - but anything is ggod - the side dishes change daily and they are delicious - the cook clearly really cares - tonight it was a homemade potato pancake - the lazy conch appetizer is to die for -the conch chowder is delicious and don't miss the homemade banana bread they bring - the food here is love!
Review Source:I've been once. Our friends that were down from N.C. for a month, went three times during their stay.
Typically when eating out we'll each order something different for obvious reasons. Every adult at the table ordered the herb crusted hog fish sandwich. Some for a third time. And I found out why.
The fish was encased in a Panko/parmesan crust topped with a key lime butter. Crunchy outside, moist center. Makes it that much more local.
I'd shy away from the conch fritters, as they were a little tough. At least I think I would. Conch can be tricky, but it's something that I always want to order.
And then there's the view. I don't dare try to describe it. Just go see it.
Let me start by saying that this was an unexpected pleasure. We were expecting a decent meal based on the reviews, but what we got was the best meal of our trip to the Keys, as well as the best service that we received. The Yellow Tail was absolutely great. the fillet  was very moist, tender and tasty. They start you off with rolls and banana nut bread loaf, that is very good. This was the one meal that was so good that I actually stuffed myself, because it was so good. I am not sure why the negative reviews here, but I would go back anytime. Don't hesitate to go here.
Review Source:I dunno. Â I sometimes think a 5 is too much out of the concept of all the restaurants out there. Â The thing is the food here was really good, the atmosphere was nice, the price was right and the server threw us an extra banana bread to go on the house, perhaps sensing that I am a good tipper.
Banana bread - That's right, and DAMN good. Â Mom, if you read this it's about time you made some and sent it to me in the mail. Â But let's not get off track:
We started out ordering some sort of Conch Fillet special and the lovely lady ordered a cup of Conch chowder, which I had a bite of. Â Yummy.
And since I had been meaning to eat some real conch since I got to the island (no not in conch fritters. Â To my dismay they really are just like big hush-puppies and the conch is really not that noticeable.) I made it a point to get this conch fillet thingy, like I said before; however I was just going to order off the menu where it said, "Conch Fillet".
The waitress jumped in and told me the special was better. Â I listened. Â I always tell people when I'm working, "Trust your bartender." and I usually get a certain slight creepy feeling for those people who don't. Â They're the ones that want to be hard to please instead of being true connoisseurs. Â (Maybe that's a deep statement, I dunno.)
So I trusted her, not once but twice.
The conch fillet special was Delicious! Â So was her other selection, which was the Chicken Downunder Sandwich.
WHAT? Â Downunder? Â I'm in the Florida Keys. Â I don't see any f---ing Kangaroos, Rugged Actors, or Chicks who think I'm hot just because I'm American.
But ya, Chicken Downunder. Â It was basically Chicken with lots of cheese and pepperjack cheese. Â Really good though. Â And then of course there was Banana bread for $3.95 marked on the menu.
I decided after this that ALL restaurants should have Banana bread. Â I mean ALL. Â I go and get chinese food? Â "Um... Could you bring me some Banana bread please..?"
Mexican: Â "Do the Flautas come with a side of banana bread?"
Those restaurants that give you the basket of Random breadsticks, crackers and other assorted bread-stuffs - "Where's my banana bread?"
You get the idea.
Mom... Â Don't forget.
