This review is for both multiple listings for "Lazy H Steak Ranch" and "Lazy H Ranch" on Yelp.
First off, disregard the $$$ and $$$$ ratings on Yelp. Â You should be able to easily get out of here with entree, drink, and tip for under $25 per person. Â Which, using Yelp's guide, rates a $$.
Second, disregard the, er, casual, look of the place when you first walk in. Â The food and service are better than the decor and ambiance.
Third, don't expect too much. Â You're in the boonies, not in La Jolla.
Fourth, don't dress as though you're dining at a $$$ or $$$$ restaurant. Â You're not. Â And you'll look ridiculous.
Now that you're properly prepared ... sit back, enjoy the locals who clearly spend lots of time here, watch the massive number of hummingbirds visiting the feeders outside the bar windows, and have some fun. Â It could be worse.
Interesting......I wrote a somewhat negative review for here and it magically disappeared! Anyway, had terrible service by a young lady who wouldn't stop talking about how 'she' likes her food done. Way overpriced for the quality of food served. Should have been alerted when we noticed there was only one other customer seated.
Review Source:Restaurant:  Hop in the wayback machine and set it for 1955.  Quirky fun place that reminds me of hanging with rich girl friends family when I was a teenager.  Food is mid-level, the prime rib  6 out of ten.  Presentation has a look of years past. The frozen potato thing is cute, but not after the first time.  What can you say? Interesting old place, nice waitresses. If you're in the mood for country club food circa 1960, this is the place.
Review Source:Ok well if you are expecting a 5 star rating hotel keep driving. Tonight we are here in the area for our annual race @ Pala Raceway. Normally we pull the trailer out and save our money but this time my husband booked a two night stay at Bates Motel : I will say the restaurant food was pretty good, prices were a little extravagant for paper placemats and banquet chairs but feeling pretty good now with my tummy full and liquor in the brain. If you need a place to rest your head, bring your own linens or ask for fresh ones. It serves its purpose for the right price! The grounds are really nice, rustic but nice
Review Source:The most god awful place I have ever stayed!! The room was horrible. It's just a brick room with blinds that don't close. And come to find out they have some crazy old man that lives there who's dog starts barking every morning at 6am and doesn't stop. If I were them I would light a match and collect the insurance money.
Review Source:I recently had a large wedding here and the whole experience was amazing. Â This site has beautiful grounds and plenty of event parking. Â We had the Lazy H restaurant cater the wedding and the food was great. Â They have a newly built bridal room for the bridal party to get ready in and it was clean, spacious, and gorgeous inside. Â I do not have a single complaint about the experience, the staff was laid back, friendly and incredibly helpful. Â I would highly recommend the Lazy H Ranch for couples looking for a gorgeous, stress free, outdoor wedding. Â The ranch works with a wedding coordinator by the name of Valora, I also recommend using her. Â She has been planning weddings for a long time and knows what she's doing. Â She took so much stress out of planning the big day, and everything turned out amazing.
Review Source:I stayed here with my boyfriend this past weeked. We wanted to stay somewhere close to the casinos but at the same time somewhere a little more secluded. This place is what it is. A motel build in the 20's with a lot of charm and character. Even though the room was falling apart and very old it was comfortable. We did not try the food but it looked like the people having dinner where really enjoying their meals and everything looked good. My favorite part about the hotel where their fruit trees and the scenery.
Review Source:I live in Pauma Valley and stayed here for one night during a shower renovation. I got home @ 7 PM to discover crazy tar fumes in my bedroom. I called Lazy H and the man I spoke to was polite & informative. After discovering Pala was full, I decided to stay here. On a weekend the total with tax is $96.12, which is not terrible.
My parents used to own & run rental cottages on the Northern California coast & that is what I use to compare. The bed was nothing to write home about, but I usually have difficulty sleeping in hotels & this wasn't that bad. The shower worked (essentail) but wasn't great. For what I needed, the room was perfect, as it might be for say a casino hopper or biker, but I wouldn't spend much time in there.
Despite these general drawbacks, I am giving it 4 stars. First, I got what I paid for. If I had paid $150 I wouldn't be as happy, but I paid less than $100. Second, they had a room, which is more than Pala can say. And finally I was happy to test it out as I would recommend it to any guests on a budget.
Unfortunatly I didn't eat @ the restaurant, but the tree growing trough the bar was awesome!
A great alternative to the casinos that are the big hotel draw in this rural area. Single-bed suites only! What they lack in super-modern conveniences they more than make-up for in charm. Total time warp to the ranchos prevelant in California's back country. Great stop-off on the highway if you need a drink, drank too much or got a hankerin' for a delicious dinner prepared by a great chef. You'll see local yokels, European tourists & folks aplenty. Check it out for the ultimate R&R. Dogs welcomed YAY!!!
Review Source:I would not recommend this as a wedding venue. My cousin's daughter got married there and it was very disappointing. It was an outdoor wedding and they had one uni-sex porta-potty which quickly became gross. Just as the bride was to be walked down the aisle with her father the rainbirds came on. Guests had to cover them to prevent the bride from getting wet. As the best man was toasting it began to get dark and there was no lighting. The weather is nobody's fault but once the sun went down  it became very cold, (and dark ). I thought the food was adequate but some complained of it being too "chuck wagon". (In all fairness I have to say that they were generous with the meat although I personally am vegetarian.) One more thing, more rainbirds came on where all the cars were parked and when many were leaving. I hope this place improves because I hate to see anyone's business fail.
