Really cute place in the middle of nowhere. Where do they sell all of those pies? Because they had a whole lot. Boxes and boxes. A different selection pies seem to be made every day. The particular day we stopped, they were featuring blackberry in addition to the standard apple, pecan, lemon etc.
We ordered a slice of apple and blackberry. My husband can't resist an apple pie. Pies were good, but can't say we were blown away. I liked them better than my husband did, but then I'm not the pie person of the family. The apple had a nice flavor to it, better than average in my opinion with the addition of nutmeg. My husband did not like the texture of either the filling (not chunky enough) or the crust (not flaky enough). I agreed with him that the pie crust was of the soft rather than the flaky/crunchier variety. But some people may prefer it that way. Liked the flavor of the blackberry pie. That was very fresh.
Decor was nice. This was the place we bought the $2.50 bottle of garlic hot sauce mentioned in another review.
Two pieces of chicken just weren't enough ! Â Sides seemed odd to me. Consider asking to double your potato salad instead of the dressing. Coffee was great. Most places like this closed 20 years ago so this one is worth the trip. The pie was great but two chicken dinners, two pieces of pie, two teas and two coffees was $35. (a whole pie was another $18). Still a 20 minute wait for a table detouring from a hurried trip down I-49 is something I will do again.
Review Source:Lea's is known for their pies, and they don't disappoint. Â It is called Lea's Lunch Room, but this is, with all due respect, not a good place to get a full-course meal. Â Their "specialty" was their ham, which was marble and disgusting. Â Again, get lunch somewhere else, stop at Lea's for dessert! Â The pies, however, are a bit pricey.
Also, brownie points for the vintage Depression-era atmosphere. Â It greatly adds to the decor.
