We stopped here on our way down from Roan Mountain to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Â The restaurant is located in a double-wide trailer on the side of the road, with a hand-painted sign that says "Lee's Cafe"
The food is what you would expect -- mediocre american fare, including burgers, bbq, fried fish, fried okra, etc. Â The pleasure in dining here, however, is experiencing the local flavor of people that come through this diner. Â As out-of-towner, we got our food after the locals did even though we ordered first. Â I also saw people dipping french fries into a pale clear yellow liquid poured out of a squirt bottle that I can only imagine to be melted margarine or clarified butter. Â No such squirt bottle was offered to us with our meals (again, we're not locals and were obviously treated as such).
The service was friendly enough, and the decor ghastly, but all in all it was a unique experience.
