This is the original location, it's smaller than the new location on Hagerty, but they are similar in style and substance, a good bar with good food.
The menu is large, dominated by salads and sandwiches. Â Quality and quantity, you will not home hungry. Â I usually go with the orient chicken salad, but I have many items on the menu, with little to complain about. Â
When you order a pitcher of beer, they start you off with the pitcher and a glass full of beer, most places, just give you the pitcher. Â
Watch for beer monthly specils, bottle and draft.
Lots of tv's, in most prts of the restaurant, and. Nice little deck outside with a dozen tables. Â It gets very busy round lunch time.
Probably the biggest negatives are parking and trying to turning left onto busy Grand River.
Maybe five stars is a little high, but this place has done everything well for me for years and never disappointed. Â
The menu is pretty broad and I've never had a bad meal. Â I've had three different salads and they have always been excellent. Â I really like the pizza (which is half off on Mondays with the purchase of two beverages). Â Burgers are 2 for 1 from 12 - 4 on weekends.
They also have some "healthy fare" sandwich meals (lawash sandwich/fruit/cottage cheese). Â The Leslie's rollup is particularly good.
It's a nice atmosphere. Â Basically a sports bar, but I go often even though I'm not a sports bar and even when I'm not going to watch a sporting event. Â They have plentiful outdoor seating when the weather is good, which I really like.
I have no complaints about the service. Â Sometimes it is better than others, and once in a while it has been slow. Â But it is always pleasant.
So I give it five starts because for what it is, a sports bar, I think it is terrific.
As soon as you walk in this place you realize you won't be there for conversation. THE PLACE IS LOUD!! You should be there to watch sports on a thousand TVs, Â Using hand signals, I ordered a cajun burger and a beer and sat back to watch the baseball game with five other guys. Our server Kelly was all business, but efficient. Everybody was happy with their food. My burger was perfectly prepared medium and was juicy. Instead of fries I got coleslaw and it too was very good. The happiest guy was the one who got the pizza --------he raved about it. I got a taste and it was really good.
I'll go back for any sporting event, but don't go here expecting any kind of conversation----and practice your hand signals!.
This is one of those places that is just kinda easy and comfy, like wearing your pajamas all day on the weekend.
I would say the food is slightly above par for your standard bar fare. Â Burgers and pizza are good. Â I always enjoy their chicken tortilla soup. Â
I'm always a happy camper cause they have Strongbow hard cider on tap!!
Lots of TV's and they will put on whatever sporting event you are looking for. Â The crowd there can get into the game a little so that can be fun.
This is a tricky one to rate as it has better food than a bar, but not good enough food to be a restaurant. Â At the same time it has more of a restaurant atmosphere than a bar. Â It is pretty much a run of the mill pub that you can find similar quality on every corner in this area. Â I'm going to give it 3 stars for this reason.
--Food--
The food is okay, but by no means is it good enough for me to go out of my way to dine here. Â If I was to recommend food, it'd have to be the chili, fajitas, quesadillas, and most of all the hot italian ciabatta. Â The wings, burgers, and fries are all average at best. Â Avoid the hot garlic sauce as it is simply hot sauce with that awful precut soaked in a preserving substance garlic. Â There's not a thing on this menu that you couldn't make better on your own.
The hot italian ciabatta is good. Â It is a sandwhich consisting of your normal italian meats, on a toasted ciabata bread coated with a surprisingly tasty basil mayo. Â I'm not going to lie, I drench this thing in hot sauce and put jalapenos on it, so that I ruin the integrity of the sandwich, but it is more appealing to me.
As for actual entrees, what I've had I didn't really like all that much. Â The cajun chicken pasta is okay. Â It's of a chained restaurant quality. Â I would never order a steak here as it is way over priced for the quality. Â GO FOR WEDNESDAY TRIVIA!
--Service--
There are two blonde female servers who are excellent. Â They'll remember your face and what you order. Â They pick up the slack for the other servers who aren't very good or friendly. Â After being neglected constantly by our waitress, a waitress with short blonde spikey hair came over really apologetic and handled all of our needs, despite not being in her section. Â The brunette in the 30-40 range is very rude and not good at her job. Â We breathe a sigh of relief every time we are not in her section. The busboys do a decent job of clearing your table as well. Â
--Bar--
The beer of the month isn't all that great of a deal. Â The selection of beers is okay, it's definitely for your casual drinker. Â I do however like how they always seem to have hopitcal illusion, which is surprising because its a not so popular NY beer. Â I would still go about drinking 3-4 dollar talls of budlight. Â The drinks really aren't all that great of a price when they are not on special.
--Tips--
-Depending on what you have consider substituting the mac and cheese for fries. Â It's better, but not great.
-Don't expect amazing food, Â It's simply a place to go when you want a quick bite and drink. Â I'd recommend this place for a quick after work eat/drink for older workers.
- Trivia on wednesday nights is really fun. Â Cat is the girl who runs it and she is incredibly fun and nice. Â The sole reason we actually dine here.
Good bar fare food. Â Lots of TV's to watch sports. Â Service was only far as our waitress "forgot" to turn our order into the kitchen. She made it up to us by giving us two free beers, however she asked that we not say anything or everyone will be wanting one. Â Well, ok. Ordered the pizza, not bad for a bar.
Review Source:It's my first time here and I'm typing from the bar. The service was okay, not exactly friendly but not rude either. I only had the fried mushrooms which I won't get again. Overall it seems like a cool local bar who's patrons have to warm up to newbies before they'll say hello. Oh, and and I take back what I said about the service (at least from Sarah, the bartender). She turned out to be very friendly. I'll be back and maybe I'll become a regular.
Review Source:Great drink specials if your timing is right, good portions of food for what you pay. Â Service is hit or miss.
I've eaten here probably 10 times. Â I've always enjoyed what I ordered. Â The pizza is very good. Â Drinks are priced pretty well, and they have quite a few mixed drinks listed on their menu.
Service has been either really good or pretty bad. Â Glendolyn (or something similar to that) is really nice. Â Sometimes the servers are inattentive and borderline rude. Â Why do we keep coming back? Â It's a good standby where you'll get decent food and drinks for a good price. Â Plus, there's outdoor seating in summer.
I went for the first time yesterday because I had a <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> certificate. The server we had at first was awfull, she told others around us her shift was over, but never told us.RUDE. So,we had a new waitress who was better. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. My son used the bathroom and said it was scary in there bad lighting,dirty,etc.. The place seemed a bit run down as well.We won't be back anytime soon.Had better burgers at tons of other places.
Review Source:Let's be honest:: this is more pub than Library. The "Library" is just a bunch of old books stapled to the shelves. You can't check anything out!
Except the food, that is, which is mostly very very good. I've worked in Libraries for 20+ years, and I've never check out a burger like they serve here. Or an Asian Chicken Salad with such incredibly tasty sweet/sour dressing.
Service can be slow here, but it ends up being worth it because the food is quite good. It's a good place to catch a game, but a bad place if you planned on having a conversation with anyone since it's "nuclear blast" loud (and I'm deaf, so that's saying something).
Great place to stop in for a beer, meet with friends and enjoy a bite to eat. Â Just minutes from Total Soccer of Novi - many of us stop in after a game and feel right at home.
I have never had a bad meal here but would like to see something different on the menu! Â They have many beer to choose from and it is always icy cold!
It was packed on a Sunday for the 4 p.m. Lions game. Understandably so. A few people were ahead of us and after they were seated, there weren't any tables left for us so our name was taken down, and we got the pizza buzzer to let us know when we could be seated. That was fine because right by the hostess' stand, there's a small ledge with tables and chairs, where we waited for about 15-20 minutes.
Then, a big party comes in wanting to be seated. You think, OK they'll put their names down, too. But we had seen a few parties just leave so we'll all be seated in no time.
It was a good thing my friend and I were paying attention to what was going on instead of being wrapped up in the game because they were going to seat this party who just came in, instead of us, who had been waiting for what felt like forever. Seriously? So I interrupted them, saying we were there first. I mean, come on: She took our names down. My name was the only name on the list. We got seated though, thank goodness.
The service was slow, but I think our waitress was the only one working the room, which doesn't make any sense during a Lions game, so I can't really blame her for coming once in a span of 40 minutes.
I ordered the chili. The spiciness varies every day on a scale of 1-10. That Sunday, it was a 3. I was hungry so it did the job, but it wasn't exactly hot, but I'd say below mildly warm. While I asked for no cheese, it came with a side of onions and cheese, the first time I've ever ordered chili where those things came on the side.
My friends ordered the buffalo chicken pizza, which they said was above average.
This is more a review of the chicken wings at Library Pub than the pub itself.
I have a real weak-spot for chicken wings. Â The city I moved out of to move here (which will go unmentioned) had a great local chain that served up really nice wings.
I've been searching the area for a replacement, and this is the best I've been able to find so far in a reasonable distance to my house. (I'm still looking- are there really no really great wing places in the greater Detroit area? I find this hard to believe. Â And don't tell be Bw3- would you tell a hamburger lover to go to McDonalds?)
Library has a big menu- but I can't comment on anything except for the wings- which are above average and the best I've had in the northwestern 'burbs. Â Good size, sauces aren't bad, and they are reasonably priced. They have a decent beer selection- but like most bars in the area I wish they'd do more local Michigan beer specials (great Michigan craft brewers was one of the reasons I was looking forward to moving here.) Â The place does get pretty crowded- so there might be times when it's hard to get a table- I haven't gone on weekends though so I've always been able to find somewhere to sit without waiting.
Can I rant for a second?
We had one bad experience which wasn't the places' fault really. Â My wife and I were sitting on the patio eating when a couple came and sat at the four-top behind us. Â What they didn't tell the waitress was that they had about ten more people coming. Â Obviously there wasn't space for everyone to sit- so they just crowded around leaning on the walls. Â We had to eat surrounded by people standing around half a foot away from us glaring at us the whole time waiting for us to give up our table- obnoxious.
OK- Rant over.
So long story short- until I find a better source for wings in the area- I'll be heading back from time to time. (And if you know some place- let me know!)
At first I didn't want to go the this place because the parking lot was super full and I hate crowded bars. Â But I got vetoed. Â So we walked in and it was after 9 so we chatted with the bouncer/i.d. checker for a few minutes while our friend was thrilled because this was her first time going to a bar and getting id'ed. (The bouncer gave her a hard time, it was funny).
We wanted food and drink so we got seated in the restaurant area. Â The beer selection is wonderful. Â We got the cheesy bread, or whatever it's called there, a small, and it was amazing. Â And definitely big enough to feed my boyfriend and I, not small at all. (We visited the restaurant again and got the large with five people, we demolished it, but it was the size of a medium pizza.)
Everyone was happy with their food and drink. Â And it was trivia night, so we got to listen to a few before it ended. Â All in all, we'll go back, again, since we've already visited their twice. :-) Also, the fajitas were fantastic for a non authentic restaurant. Â Came with guac, sour cream, salsa, pico, cheese, lettuce, and of course the tortillas.
I'm pretty surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating! Â I've been here twice and it's been really good both times. Â I didn't give it 5 starts because it's not like they do anything completely out of this world, but their food is yummy and their service is quick.
I've had the pizza, which I think they're known for, and it was really good. Â The crust was tasty and the toppings were plentiful! Â I've also gotten a patty melt there (which is hard to screw up) and it was great. Â If I lived in the Novi area this would definitely be one of my regular haunts!
I have been wanting to try them, then it was suggested that we meet some friends there.
Fabulous Idea, great beer selection, full bar and watched the Tigers game while enjoying some great company. We only had the combo appetizer but it wasn't bad. Wasn't great but wasn't bad. Typical bar food. (we were not in the restaurant area and didn't want a full meal). The service was something to be desired but really didn't care much. She might of been having an off night, we were having a good time regardless.
I will definitely come back and try the restaurant!
Food is good. Â Happy Hour beer specials are good. Â Service is good. Â Everything is good. Â
It is also awesome that once, when my coworkers and I were planning to meet for happy hour on a Friday after school, she asked me, "We're meeting at the library right?" I said, "Yeah." Â And a student (I didn't realize was near us) asked, "You guys hang out at the library after school? Â Why?"
Genius. Â Name your bar "The Library" so when someone asks where you were, your answer is coded. Â Cheap thrills. :)
This almost-dive of a restuarant is a stone's throw away from Twelve Oaks mall. The decor is made up of local memorabilia and library books, but its a little discerning at first.
I met three of my girlfriends here after work, and while it was busy, it wasn't overwhelmingly noisy or crowded. The food was delicious (I had chicken fingers and split the spinach and artichoke dip), and the service was friendly. Also, the prices are super-reasonable.
Definitely a good spot for West-of-Detroiters who aren't pretentious about their surroundings.
I've been here on a couple occasions, first off who's the marketing genius who thought it would be a good idea to mix library book theme with a sports bar? I mean really what does one have anything to do with the other?
The smoke in this place used to be unbearable, but thanks to the new law we don't have to worry about this. This bar seems like a meeting place for close friends, maybe the locals have a romantic feeling towards this place, but to me it's just an over crowded noisy sports-bar, food's ok, beer selection ok. Just another sports bar but with books...
My first time there (Ken's 2nd, but it'd been a couple of years), and I was not impressed.
We went the same night as the BOGO pizza special, so the place was hopping. Â Since we were using a Groupon we couldn't get the special, but neither of us craved pizza so OK.
Had a couple apps, but I cannot remember what they were (not a good sign). Â I had the waitress-recommended cheese stuffed chicken breast - crunchy cartlidge and fat layer ruined it for me. Â Ken had a burger - very little flavor.
Really nice drinks. Â I had my usual dirty martini and the bartender knew what he was doing. Â Waitress was average.
The Groupon helped me think the trip wasn't a complete waste, but we will not go back any time soon.
A night out for dinner, music an dancing at Library Pub is as always, a good time! We started out with some basic fare; a Turkey Reuben for me which was flawlessly prepared, and a chicken Cesar salad for my with that was reportedly excellent too! The band of choice Free Beer (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.freebeernet.com&s=815930c36a196150ae81d9b8ccd0039895ebec1f4f78ba79afdd1324dad15c08" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.freebeernet.c…</a>) started around 9:30, and we danced and drank until almost 2:00 AM, all for under $90 including EVERYTHING. It was unbelievable considering the quality of the food, atmosphere, and service. THAT's what will keep us coming back for more!
Review Source:First, the bar part. I love a place that brings a full pitcher AND 2 full glasses of beer. Â They usually have 5 or more beers on tap plus some seasonal choices as well.
As for their food.. Good bar food. I love their thin crust pizza. Â Also, try the broccoli cheese bites. They always come out nuclear hot and you'll mow th down in a minute. Mondays are 1/2 price pizza and check <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> for coupons cheap. But they sell out fast!
We came here for a friends birthday and had about 12 people with us. We managed to get a few tables together and squish. There were several other large parties taking up the spaces that had more room. Oh well! We had snacks and drinks. The slushi cocktails were delicious, I highly recommend - great for summer. The food was decent. Overall an ok place, if you are in the area.
Review Source:I went there to take in a Red Wings game. The food was pretty good. I had the hawiian grilled chicken. It was juicy and cooked perfect. The rice was little sticky, but tasty. The service was pretty good. They kept the fluids full and cold. The person I was with had a steak and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was prepared and tasted. There were plenty of televisions to enjoy the game(Wings won). Overall this was a very good dining experience. I definately would will be going back.
Review Source:Not bad, but not great. My experience at Library would be comparable to any other average bar or restaurant. The service was slow and the food wasn't anything amazing. The artichoke dip was tasty and their seasoned fries were alright. I ordered the BBQ grilled chicken for $8.50 and it was filling. They had a ton of televisions, but some not so strategically placed. I got stuck at a lower level booth facing away from the televisions with only one television in view meaning I was constantly crooning my neck to get a view of the big screens. My buddies, who swear by Library's pizza had a few slices that were 75% dough- completely absent of sauce, cheese, or pepperoni. But for $11.50, splitting a large pizza is a bargain. The place was busy the entire time I was there so it definitely gets hyped up during sporting events- especially during Red Wings hockey.
Review Source:The original library pub, like the other one....I like the pizza, I think it has above average bar food and they have decent food specials throughout the week. Â The layout of this one isn't a nice as the new one, but this one has more character. A decent place to have a beer and watch a game.
Review Source:The way people were talking about this place, I thought I was in for something out of this world. Instead, I ended up getting your typical run-of-the-mill bar/restaurant combination. Much better than a chain restaurant, I'll give it that much, but still nothing special.
The Library has books everywhere to give it a right to its name, I guess. I don't really get it, but whatever. It's not like the place used to actually BE a library (did it?).
I did take a star off for the absolutely rude service we all received. Yes, it was a Friday night but if you're working on a Friday night then you should know that things are going to be a little bit busier. Our waitress came and went to our table and didn't take everyone's drink orders (only a select few at first), then was rude about demanding what the rest of the people wanted to drink when she did return. Her overall attitude was not very pleasant either, which really didn't help out at all.
The food was decent enough, but again, nothing special. Ordering off the "light" portion of the menu I was a little surprised to see how much cheese my wrap came with. The sucker was practically drowning in it. Not to mention the grease piling off this thing. I will say that it was really good though, and everyone else thought their food was good as well. I guess the spinach salad is one of the greatest things here - which I may try if I ever return.
I'd say the Library would be a decent place to just get your drink on and then head elsewhere to continue your night at. A good place to begin the night but I don't think I'd want to stay here too long even if the service and everything else was totally awesome because the way the interior is designed makes it feel much more crowded than it is.
I may or may not return, but I think it's at least worth checking out once if you happen to live nearby or are frequently around. But, if you're just passing through, you might as well pass up on this one.
food was decent.
drinks were delicious.
seating was scarce, dock a star for that.
beware though: YOU *WILL* Leave here smelling like smoke, even if you were the only one in the joint. Â There's something wrong with that, so dock a star for that too.
pricing was on the higher side (to be expected).
scenery is usually nice, even on a wednesday night.
good crowd. Â
3 stars overall.
* BEWARE THAT THE NOVI PD PATROLS THIS AREA HEAVILY and in the course of walking through the parking lot they often mark cars' headlights with a grease pencil so they can target who was at the bars and pull them over down the road. Â Check your car for a marking before you leave!
It's a fine place for a night out to watch the game and have a few brews. The layout is annoying; it often feels a lot more crowded than it actually is. Drinks are average priced (around $3 for a cheap beer) and I hear they still have midweek drink specials.
Our server was great, even on a packed Friday night when the Guinness-folk were there doing promos. The food is average bar food.
3/5 stars because of the layout/crammed-in nature of the place and the fact that it had nothing "memorable" about it. Just an average sports bar with some high def televisions.
This is one of my favorite local watering holes... Something about it just feels right. It's a come as you are type of place, no need to dress up. Plenty of Televisions for sports. And reasonable prices.
If I'm correct Thursday night is karaoke night, Friday and Saturday they have live bands if there is not a big game on T.V., then the band will normally play after.
To top things off... when you order a pitcher of beer you will get up to two glasses filled with beer as well.
