Linda's Diner

I enjoyed my breakfast here before a birding trip to Bethel Beach.  Wish we had authentic diners like this back in California.  Recommended!

Not an imitation diner, this place is the real deal!

I wish we had places like this up near DC!   Mathews is a tiny town sort of nestled out in the middle of nowhere.   One of those places where everybody knows everybody.  This place must be their local gathering spot, because at lunchtime, this little place was packed!  I'm amazed I managed to find a parking spot.  I was actually a little bit relieved, as there are few things more awkward than walking into a place and having everyone staring at you like you're a space alien just because you're not from town.  Everyone was too busy bustling around to pay me any extra unwanted attention. :)

You get to actually watch your food being cooked and prepared while sitting at the bar.  The wait staff knew everybody, so i was able to listen to them converse with the customers about things like their kids, the local prom, farms, and all of the other little odds and ends that go on in small towns.  It reminds me of the town I grew up in!  The menu is fairly basic... Burgers, sandwiches, etc, but it's a diner... what do you expect?  It was quick and tasty.   I believe this place is cash only, so bring some bills along.  

I'm taking off one star for the tiny crammed parking lot, and for the country music that made my ears bleed a bit.  Still a very enjoyable experience, and a great place for escaping the hustle and bustle of the city.
