If I can't get to Florabama this is a decent place to hang out. Â I once had two women walk up to me and introduce themselves as a red headed slut and a blonde bimbo and they informed me I was going to buy them red headed slut shots for us to do. Â Classy this place is definitely not but it still can be entertaining. Â They often have some pretty crappy bands that sometimes belt out good music but end up being hilarious. Â During the Summer it is usually crowded (sometimes uncomfortably packed) so this is definitely a happening spot in the area.
Review Source:Ate here for lunch with my family and kids. Food was good, service was decent, restaurant was pretty clean, and health rating at this time was 92. I'd go back.
Kids split the popcorn shrimp, fries, and mac/cheese. Kids didn't care for anything but the mac/cheese.
Most of us had the fried shrimp po boy and fries. It came out on a dry deli roll (kinda like a hoagie bun). All condiments were on the side. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle. Had to ask for tartar for the spread on the bun. Thought that was a little odd that I had to ask for something to spread on a dry bun. Nevertheless, it was good. It wasn't greasy fried shrimp which pleased me.
Yeah, just another tourist restaurant, that has great potential, but fails at lift off.
Live Bait, brings in the summer crowd, has an interesting appetizers, we had the Greek nacho's and they looked pretty damn good; however, they weren't even served hot, which diminished the dish, they would have been outstanding, but they were left standing, so there out! The fried pickles, yep they were good.
However, this segways to the service and our waitress was just kind of in the weeds. Asked for hot sauce for the nachos and never received any hot sauce. So staffing is eehhh so so.
Listen this is a place I would probably go to again, but definitely not highly recommended.
Live Bait is a great tourist trap right on the strip in Orange Beach, across the street from the beach and numerous condo/rental units. But I personally find it to be a worthwhile trap that warrants a visit if you're in town! The fact that locals (and most of the staff when they're off the clock) frequent it (if no where else, at least the bar) says something about the joint. My bf worked here a few years ago and I spent many a night having some food, drinking and dancing back at Live Bait Too (a great night out!).
A few tips on the menu...the menu is a tourist-based menu. Expect nothing more. As most reviewers suggest, the food is fine -- but nothing extraordinary. However, that's what you'll get at any other tourist trap around the Gulf of Mexico, so whatever. Pick your poison, right? This place often has a wait during the summer, so obviously they're doing something right.
DO NOT order the onion explosion. Unless they've added more fryers to that kitchen, this thing is often a last priority when there's seafood to be fried for entrees. It can take forever to come out, making it an ineffective starter. Seafood nachos and crab claws are awesome, highly recommend them or the gator bites to get your meal started off right. The po boy sammies are all pretty good -- there used to be an amberjack sandwich that was awesome (altho I heard rumors that it wasn't actually amberjack...more like fried cod, but who can really tell?), but it's no longer on the menu. Note, you can (or at least, you used to be able to) order fried oysters and shrimp by the single digits. When I'd come drinking, I'd usually order a half-dozen fried oysters on the side. Perfect!
The drinks here are good...they make 'em strong and tasty. If you swing by for dinner, mow your munchies and walk around back to Live Bait Too for some fun. I haven't been to the other addition over by the Wharf, but I'd expect it's about the same.
This place is ok, but nothing special. A couple of years ago they had this amazing bar b que chicken salad on the menu, but when I was there with family last week, it was gone. I had a burger instead, and it was nothing special. The service was really great thought, and the mozzarella sticks were very good, as well as the cocktails. If you're looking for great food, there are other places in town that are way better, but for drinks and apps, this place is decent.
Review Source:I must award Live Bait the dubious distinction of providing me the WORST meal of my trip to Orange Beach. Everything we had, from the onion appetizer, to her tuna, to my pork, was overdone. Even though we we dined during a relatively slow portion of the evening, the service was mediocre.
Too many good restaurants in the area to bother with this place, steer clear.
Food was ok. Â Fish dishes and pasta were blah. Â Crab was good but nothing special. Â The gumbo was really nice and full of seafood. Â I'd go back for that. Â The "bowl' is almost a meal on its own. Â
Our waitress was awesome. Â Made the whole experience that much better and raised the rating from a 2 star to a 3. Â Some other reviews indicate poor experience with server staff so buyer beware.
Rename this cest pool "Dead Bait" or "Frozen Bait"... Slowest, trashiest, and least knowledgable staff I've ever ran into. The egret chillin in the mud pit behind this tourist trap ate before us on several occasions. No pitchers at a bar? No draft beer larger than 12 oz? Lost nearly 3 hours of my life to this trash bucket... Negative five stars
Review Source:This was the most disapointing meal that my family has eaten, ever. We went on a saturday night, were seated almost in the doorway. Â They managed not to screw up the gumbo, baked potatos and dinner salads, but everything else was abysmal. Â We ordered 4 different things off the menu and none of them were edible. Â When I say none were edible, I mean NONE! Â The boiled ruby red shrimp were overcooked and couldnt be peeled, the grilled grouper filet was HORRIBLE, the shrimp over the bowtie pasta were fine but the pasta seemed as if it were made by Elmer's, and a filet mignon was just plain bad. Â This place has a Hooters wanna-be type appearance but not atmosphere. Â The food is just plain bad and the serivce is marginal. Â None of the 4 of us ate more than half of our entrees. Â We had tea and a total of domestic 3 beers, 1 cup of gumbo and the 4 entrees and the tab was $108 before tip. This is a tourist trap if there has ever been one. Â I've been told that they have cheap drinks and good live music. Â That may be true but don't go there for a meal. Â Â If 0 stars were a choice then I woudl have selected that instead of one. Â Seriously, this place is the pits. Â STAY AWAY.
Review Source:I recently went to the Live Bait nightclub on a trip to Gulf Shores. Â I don't know if their food is any good, but the drinks are strong and cheap. Â The had a cover band playing both nights I went. Â The band played a mix of 80s to current music. Â In between sets they were playing today's music with some rap/dance music as well. Â It think this is a great place and it's probably the best place for young adults in Gulf Shores, that doesn't care for the Flora-Bama scene.
