    We came towards the end of the night for dinner and wanted to see how a mountain town does sushi. Being pregnant, I had to resort to cooked sushi, but husband had no limitations. We ordered a crab cake and edamame for appetizers. The waitress brought out fries instead, so ofcourse we sent it back, and we never got the edamame. The crab cake was too breaded, completely burnt to a charcoal on the bottom ,and also a bit too overdone on the top, thus we ate as much as we could of the crab cake. The waitress came by to ask us how it was and we told/showed her it was burnt, which made it hard to eat...her response, " Well, if you hadn't finished most of it, we could've made you another one". My husband and I were a bit shocked by the defensive/rude response, especially when we didn't ask for another (as we did not want another since it was not good regardless if it was burnt or not). The two cooked rolls (one being a crab/shrimp special roll and another a steak roll) were mediocre at best. This might be a nice lounge area for drinks and gatherings with friends, especially for a small mountain town, but as for sushi/food: if you are used to the culinary sushi/seafood/Japanese experience and expectation that you may get from a bigger city, then LOwer the BAR when you come here...the name says it all.

    Crack fries are AMAZING!
    The rest of the food was quite good as well - but those crack fries are aptly named.
    Great atmosphere, good service, will definitely recommend.

    What's more awesome than great sushi after a long day of snowboarding? The salmon sushi just melts in your mouth! Mmmmm delicious!

    Cozy basement, good service! Wonderful sushi, pomegranate drink was super!
    Ordering was complicated (for inexperienced sushi eaters), but the waiter was helpful. Music was cool. Why not five stars? Because of the price.

    came here for drinks after receiving a business card that offered us a free caraffe of hot sake.

    maybe it was just that night, but the crowd seemed to be a little older and although the ambience was cool and drinks cheap (johnny black for $5 whattttt?), it was kind of dead inside. we ended up drinking our sake, another round of drinks, and then bouncing.

    the waitresses were super nice and sweet though. i love good service.

    What a wonderful restaurant!  The sushi was truly amazing (the scallop sashimi with cilantro oil was one of the best things ever), the service was great, and the restaurant was funky and comfortable.  Mountain-town sushi tends to be pretty good, but this was really amazing.  We liked it much better that Matsuhisa in Aspen.

    It's also a very hip place (DJ spinning great music during dinner service--but at a low volume), but even though my husband and I are past our hip years, we were welcomed warmly.

    And the house margaritas?  Wow.

    Lobar literally has something for everyone. Kyleena is a great hostess, and she throws one helluva party.

    From the famed New Years Eve events to karaoke nights to excellent cocktails to the robata grill to crack fries to out-of-this-world sushi, how could you not be blown away?

    A few favorite menu items:
    - Crack Fries: Parmesan, garlic, parsley, salt, and, well, crack. I mean, there has to be some secret ingredient. These fries are addictively good.
    - Dragon Roll: I'll admit, Lobar was where I learned to like sushi, in large part because of their dragon rolls. Something in the sauce drizzled over the top makes them a little bit sweeter than the standard dragon roll, and they're just mouthwateringly good.
    - Ruby Red Martini: I could drink these all night. Just the perfect mix of sweet and alcohol, and the color is phenomenal.

    I know eating raw fish in the middle of the mountains several hours from civilization sounds like a weird idea, but everything here is delicious and incredibly fresh. All the sushi is flown in daily from Hawaii.

    This is a jewel of a sushi place.  The sushi is always very good and creative.  I've had most of their appetizers too and they are just as good.

    You must get the crack fries.  Once you have them, you'll be hooked.  They are that good.

    Be careful entering because the entrance is dark and steep, but it's a fun atmosphere.

    Delicious landlocked sushi :)  I'd heard about this place and made it a point to try it out while riding in CB. I have to say it's the best sushi I've had in Colorado and it was just overall great sushi! You have a try it. Although the menu was on the pricey side the rolls were really impressive. The atmosphere was swanky and we got a free carafe of sake for previously dining at the Secret Stash (just bring your receipt). We enjoyed this place a lot and will go back the next time we're in Crested Butte.

    On our last night in Crested Butte we decided to try Lobar after reading other reviews on Yelp. Good call! We arrived around 6:15pm and there was no wait (it's the end of the season). We were greeted and seated by a very friendly waiter; we never caught his name but he was extremely helpful without hovering. I am pregnant but was craving a fruity drink. I was worried I'd be stuck with water again, but he brought me a orange-cranberry-pineapple juice that hit the spot! My husband got the Lobar Margarita which was great but a little small (they don't use sweet & sour so it was just tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, which explains the size). I had read about the Crack Fries so we ordered those and a bowl of edamame for an app. The fries have DEFINITELY earned their name... so good! The two apps were huge (even though we ordered the small fries). More than enough for two.  For dinner I was looking for non-sushi items and was thrilled to find fish tacos and the "Turf Roll" on the menu (steak, roasted red peppers, butter lettuce, and horseradish aioli, topped with grilled portabella mushrooms). We ordered those and a spicy tuna roll to share. The fish tacos were great & I loved the turf roll. My husband says the spicy tuna roll was excellent too (though he could have taken it a little spicier).  Even after all that food we still had room for dessert, so I ordered the chocolate lava cake, which was the only thing that was a little standard. Really good, but just a standard lava cake. Still doesn't take away from a great dinner though!
    Service, ambiance, taste, and value... A+ from us!

    I go down for Sushi. Kinda nasty right? Well, it not my own saying. It is one of the witticisms that you can purchase on a Lobar t-shirt. See, the joint isunderground, so you have to go down (stairs) to enjoy their sushi. The space itself is hip and cool while somehow still having that funky mountain, comfortable vibe.

    They fly their fish in daily from Hawaii, so it is fresh, albeit with a enormous carbon footprint. We were there on a Saturday night and the place was very busy. Most of the food was excellent. I highly recommend the walu sashimi. They also have a creative cocktail list and good sake selection.

    They were setting up for live music when we left around 10:30. I'm sure the night got even more fun from there.

    We try to make it to the Butte once or twice a year, and this place (along with Pitas in Paradise) is ALWAYS a must go to.  EVERYTHING  we've tried at Lobar from the drinks to the sushi to the crack fries (gotta try 'em!) are soooooo good.  And the price is really reasonable.  Cool atmosphere tops off this great restaurant.

    The entrance is discreet, but if you can find it, this is the perfect place to get an apres-ski drink at their, um, Apres-Ski Happy Hour (so cleverly named).  The atmosphere is dim and hip, but not overly loud like other lounges.  A group of friends took me here for my birthday, and we made ourselves comfortable on a large, cozy couch in a semi-private corner.  There is a large flat-screen T.V. that plays movies, so that was kinda a fun addition to the evening.

    The appetizers were amazing!  Here's what I recommend:
    * agedashi tofu (fried tofu with green scallions): very crispy and flavorful
    * rangoons (fried wontons with a creamy filling): like fancy cream cheese wontons from Chinese restaurants
    * crack fries (fries with shaved parmesan and truffle oil): so good that you think they really did put crack in it
    * dragon scales (tuna wrapped in mint leaves and fried): so good that you think they put crack in this, too

    The sushi rolls here are really good.  They have your standard rolls (California, spider, catepillar, dragon, spicy tuna, etc.), but they also have unique rolls (the Rasta roll has walu, mango, cucumber, avocado, tobiko, and sesame wrapped in soy paper).  I commend Lobar for using real crab in their California Roll!

    They have lots of cocktails, sake, and wine to choose from.  My friend says the ginger martini is one of her favorite drinks.  EVER.  (She also doesn't get out very much).
