Food was good (stuffed grouper) ( crab cakes) but service lacked promptness and  when the server did come back, my wife asked for another coke and the server just added to the already melted ice and watered down coke, hence the reason she wanted another coke.  If you don't like your job you can fake it to the customers.
Live entertainer was great tonight.
Seemed a bit pricy as well.
Very disappointed. Â Server mixed up dinner order (fried grouper instead of blackened). Â Was told I could smoke a cigar in the patio area while listening to the band, and waitress brought ashtray for me. Â Then after the band played, was told I couldn't. Â Spoke to manager who didn't really care about this. Â Felt like hostesses acting like vultures just waiting for wife and I to leave to table could be allocated to other folks. Â This restaurant was VERY over-rated. Â Do not recommend....
Review Source:Had the half pound burger with beef brisket and onion ring (I know ... I think I gained five pounds from this meal alone!) ... but it was perfect! My wife had a salad with coconut chicken and she'll tell you it was the best food she had all week (on vacation)!
Our waitress was great ... big smile and clearly enjoyed being there and interacting with patrons.
Highly recommended for a great, casual dining experience.
There are four establishments directly across the road from Englewood Beach: Gulf View, Lock & Key, Flounders and White Elephant.
Gulf View $$$$ - Gulf View - Sunset View
Lock & Key $$$ - No View
Flounders $$ - Bay View - Boat Access
White Elephant $$ - Bay View - Boat Access
This establishment is popular with tourists, snow birds and locals.
There's a full bar inside and stools and tables facing the beach outside. Happy Hour, at the time of this writing, runs from 11am to 6pm. Each drink is accompanied with a pull tab card resulting in "Full Price", "Half Price" and "50 cents". Â Several TVs are inside.
The restaurant has an inside area and a covered outside area with TVs. When there's a band it's located next to the outside area.
The food is good, overall the wait staff is more experienced than Flounders and White Elephant. Locally caught grouper is popular, I like their prime rib for dinner and one of their salads for lunch.
There's on-site parking that fills up quickly in the evening. Across the street there's always room in large parking lot for Englewood Beach. Locals claim that the parking enforcement ends at 7:00, but I'm not convinced.
You can call ahead and get a quasi-reservation.
Kids are welcome, but there's no special accommodation.
The food at the Lock & Key has been consistently good for years and they now have an outdoor seating area which is so pleasant on a nice day. Â I've never had a bad dish here.... from fresh fish to prime rib, all good. Â My new lunch favorite is the South Beach salad served with coconut shrimp. Â Delicious!
Review Source:Love the atmosphere. Â The place is chock full of retired locals and they have a full bar. Â I can definitely see myself as a bar fly here later in life. Â However, I was in town on business and a local brought me here for lunch. Â It was very good. Â I had the fried grouper sandwich with chips and a tea. Â We were working so no cocktails. Â I'd love to go back and try some other dishes and cocktails.
Review Source:Went here on a Friday night during our vacation and we all thought that it was really good although the service was a bit slow. To be fair, there was only one person covering our side of the restaraunt and being a Friday, it was jammed. I had the stuffed shrimp and I feel like I got my money's worth and my bride had the fried shrimp and she seemed to like those also. We ordered the hot fudge brownie sundae for dessert and it was exquisite.....really good. A word of warning though...it's big, two people could share one sundae. This place is worth a stop after a long day out on the beach.
Review Source:Another subjective review and 4 stars by comparison to whats in the area. Â This place has a great patio, good bar, and pretty solid food. Â Its right on the beach where young meets old...really really old, so I understand that in Englewood its hard to please both crowds. Â They manage to do so with enough inventive salads, and sandwiches to please the younger crowd, with a few good cocktails as well, plus they have enough early bird geezer food to please the blue hairs that live in the area. Â It is one of the best easy eats in the city, and you really cannot beat the location
Review Source:I live in Englewood and have been to L & K a number of times. Â Never have been overwhelmed but was really dissatisfied with our last meals. Â The last two visits have been with out of town guests and I've been disappointed both times. Â The first of the two visits was with a party of four, and my husband and I both ordered grouper sandwiches. Not fresh grouper and when you're paying top price, it should be. It was fishy. The second (and last) visit was with a larger party of seven. Â Flys were buzzing around the table, and the food was bland. Â This use to be a top notch restaurant. Â We go to the competition now. Â Much better food and prices are comparable. Â I hope they bring back their quality soon.
Review Source:Wife and I had dinner and drinks at the Lock & Key.
We ate at the bar, service was excellent and bartenders were very friendly.
Wife raved about Sizzle salad. I had the 10 oz steak Au poive. Cooked medium as ordered. Lock & Key is across the street from beach and was very busy. Would recommend.
If you love the beach atmosphere, eating right in front of the beach, good food and a Strawberry Margarita every now and then, you will love Lock 'n Key. My first visit to Lock 'n Key yesterday (for lunch) left me wanting to go back ... especially for more of that yummy coconut pie. (See the picture!)
My friend, Kathleen Herron, and I both ordered the Patty Melt for lunch, and shared a big slice of the spectacular coconut pie. Truth be known, we ate the pie first, then ordered the Patty Melts. My kind of meal!
Very good service, delicious food, and located right in front of the beautiful beach on Manasota Key. Don't miss the opportunity to eat at Lock 'n Key if you are anywhere close to the Sarasota area.
That 5 ***** is for the Rockefeller, we stopped in recently on our way back from Orlando...so worth the detour.
These are hands down the most delicious Oysters Rockefeller in all of SW Florida , if not the world. Our waitress, was busy, and totally on top of everything. We had cocktails, 2 orders of these & then some other apps. Everything was so wonderful. We're making the 1.5 hour treck the next chance we get-
They have updated the decor, it is now more sophisticated, but a little less kitschy and charming. Prices are still competitive, ( why? I don't know it's them or the other one restaurant on the key) - It's not gourmet fancy stuff, but reliable, delicious seafood.
I will preface this with a note that I don't eat shell fish so seafood restaurants aren't at the top of my list. Â This place is good not great. Â There is open air seating and indoor seating. Â It is right across the street from the beach but it is not on the beach nor can you see the gulf. Â The menu is your basic fish menu. Â I liked that they had pumpkin bread on the menu. Â Our waitress was clearly having a bad day - I felt bad for her and it didn't add anything to the atmosphere. Â I really wanted to crack a joke to try to cheer her up but there was never a chance to do so. Â If you are looking for your standard sea food fare - this is a place for you. Â Manasota Key is pretty cool - nice little beach town area - low key. Â There are no other dining places close to this.
Review Source:Once again fresh seafood at different price points so everyone can get something. Â I started with a coup of the New England Clam Chowder, which was nice and thick and had large chuncks of clams (the only thing is I think they could do with a little less potato). Â I also had the grouper fingers with sweet potato fries instead of french fries!! Â (I LOOOOVE sweet potato fries). Â I also was told they have really good Pumpkin bread for those who are interested. Â Service was a little slow when we went. Â But the overall dining experience was very pleasant.
