It might not look like much on the outside but these are my favorite places to visit. Free wine tasting? Yes, please! The aroma of fresh baked bread & an amazing sausage tart welcomes you into this magical space! We purchased a fresh peach/raspberry dessert; it was fresh with the perfect combination of sweet & savory. I love that they sell local cheeses and meats.
Tip: Go on a Saturday & watch an the old mill in action across the street. Bring a blanket, grab a few cheeses, a loaf of bread & dessert from Locke Store for a great family picnic!
More of an expensive gourmet deli then local market.  I think they attract a lot of tourist who are visiting the mill because there is nothing else at the intersection.  I wanted a specialty coffee but they don't  serve any, just regular coffee that you pump yourself.  I picked up a small pound bag of granola $10 to serve with breakfast.  The ginger in the granola was overwhelming.  The cupcakes were more like  heavy dry muffins and the icing was too heavy .  The small town should set up a saturday-sunday farmers market with local fruit and vegetables plus some fresh goods baked with the mill flour.  Prices were too high $$$$$.
Review Source:Bottled flavored water, slice of microwaved bacon quiche (loaded with butter and onions) and a cookie for $15. Way overpriced.  They had a selection of local vegetables, but they were overpriced as well, especially for a country store where you think you would get a good price on local vegetables.  Felt like they were taking advantage of tourist since they are the only place in the town  to stop for a bite. Won't stop again.
Review Source:Any time that my sweetheart and I are in the neighborhood, we stop in to the Locke Store. Â They've got a nice selection of wines, and fresh coffee beans from Central Roasters. Â We walked in today with our reusable grocery and wine bags, and walked out with a few bottles of wine and bags of coffee (two of the basic food groups!). Â Too bad they're not closer, or they'd know us both by name! Â If you're in the area, stop in, and you're gonna find something you want!
Review Source:I found these folks through Twitter when I first joined in 2008 and their menus used to make my mouth water. When visiting Shenandoah River and Sky Meadows state parks I had to stop by and I was not disappointed! The food was wonderful and the array of gourmet items fascinating. Worth the lovely country drive!
Review Source:Deli and gourmet provisions store. The primary ownership is a catering business, and they sell selections from their menu and a wide variety of locally-grown or locally-produced products (milk, cheese, wine, bread, vegetables, baked goods etc). Top quality fresh ingredients, and they aren't afraid of seasonings or combinations like turkey, bacon and avocado (IMHO, their best sandwich offering). They have both hot and cold sandwiches, quiche and other goodies.
It's a great stop for sandwiches and prepared foods, although the ambiance can be occasionally stuffy, as Millwood tends toward the moneyed classes. Saturdays and Sundays are great for watching the toffs if you're into that sort of thing. All the seating is outdoors (basically patio furniture and picnic tables, so not a great choice for rainy days).
If locavore food is your thing, this one's a mandatory stop if you're in the Winchester area.
One of my Mom's friends is related to the folks that run the Locke Store in Millwood, VA. Mom wanted me to go with her to check the place out with her and her friend - so today off we went.
It's a quaint, very old store. The current owners offer a variety of delicious meals - based on locally produced food, as well as wines, beers, other beverages, dressings, vinegars, sauces, cheeses, coffee, and more.
I ordered a slice of the savory tart, got a cup of coffee, a bottle of water, and a small bag of the Route 11 Habanero potato chips.
We sat outside on the porch to eat our food (there is no seating inside). I should note that beer and wine is to go - you can't drink beer and wine on the premises, including the porch.
While we were driving out - she told us the Washington Post recently ran a story about Locke Store in early October - so I looked it up after I got back:

Very cool and nice little place! Definitely worth a visit!
