Four of us dined at The Log Cabin last night.  I had not been to this restaurant since it has reopened and was hoping for a wonderful experience .  It was not. I ordered the lamb chops and, although they appeared to be cooked as I wished ,( medium-rare) they were tough, gristly, and fatty. The portion was rather small but I could only manage to eat half of it and brought the rest home to puree for my dog . She wasn't fond of it either. Another companion had crabcakes. He commented that they tasted fine but  the portion was exceedly small compared to crab cakes one may get at other local restaurants, The two ladies with us were satisfied with their entrees. One had the  chicken breast and stated it was good. However, I believe it is exceedly difficult to ruin  chicken breast unless it is overcooked and subsequently dry. The other had pecan crusted grouper which was the daily special. She was pleased with this. I have heard from others that have dined there as recently as three days ago  that one should stay away from any of the meat entrees as whoever is their vendor is passing off inferior quality meats to this establishment .  I wish I had heeded their advice. Service was slow and by the time the waiter returned to our table  and I could express my displeasure with my meal my dining companions were half finished with their meals. He suggested he could bring me a menu and I could order something else, but I declined since by the time a replacement of some sort was served to me  my  companions would  have most assuredly been totally finished with their meals. I appreciate fine dining ,  do it regularly,  and have no qualms about spending $75 to $100 per person to dine.  That being said , with the many far better and more conveniently located restaurants in the greater  Lancaster area,  I  will not frequent The Log Cabin again ; nor would I recommend it to others. I am giving  this 2 stars based solely on the satisfacation of the ladies who dined on chicken and grouper.
Review Source:By far, one the of the best restaurants in Lancaster County. A little out of the way, but so worth it. Â The decor, as you guessed it, is that of log cabin home. Â A very large home with an amazing patio to dine on. Â They have great rooms that seat 8-12 comfortably to afford you a little privacy.
The food is amazing, and although the service is a little slow, it makes you pause, reflect, and engage the company you keep. Â Great location for a romantic dinner for two!
I had been here a few times under the previous owners and loved the setting. When I found out the restaurant had re-opened and had been remodeled, I was very excited to go give them a try. The restaurant is more beautiful than ever. I loved the scalop appetizer. The salmon was also very nice ( although a little dry on the ends), but it was seasoned well and the sides of corn risotto and vegetables were delicious. The service was on point, paced appropriately and very attentive. Water glasses were always full. The wait staff could be a little more friendly though. They lose a star because the dessert selection was ok. No real chocolate dessert. The only chocolate dessert was chocolate mousse that was so tiny and more appropriately served at a diner than a fine restaurant. They also had no espresso or cappuccino, which is always disappointing. Maybe it's because I am from Jersey where most restaurants (fine or otherwise) serve espresso beverages, but in my book an evening is never complete unless there is espresso.
Review Source:It's hard to say this, because my experience wasn't all that bad. I can't really point out any flaws in the execution of the food that I could see. I suppose that if I have to sum it up...it seems displaced in time.
Walking in I see some strange combination of hunting lodge and historical reenactment building. Inside are oil portraits that make me feel that I'm at a museum. But the decor notwithstanding, I'll get to the heart of it:
The food...while correctly prepared, seasoned and served doesn't really give the place an identity. It's as is someone set up the beginnings of an American Bistro in the middle of a cabin and then walked away. The dishes didn't tell me anything new...which is fine, except for the fact that they are priced as such. I would have even loved some throwback dishes to the early 20th century, or late 19th, and I think that would have given a unique character.
In short, the food is decent, but not as memorable as they eyes of the portrait watching me eat.
Every year my grandmother and I come back here bc she wont eat anywhere else. This time around my veal scalopini needed salt and pepper. Â It wasnt very tender either, she loved her trout. Â
I just expected it to be a lot better than it was. Â I really use to love this place. Â Not anymore.
Have eaten at the Log Cabin many times 20 years ago but hadn't been back since they reopened. Â Service, wine list and food were all very good and the Log Cabin is probably the best steakhouse in Lancaster which is a vast wasteland for a good steak. Â Prices are big city levels and $5 for additional mushrooms or onions on a $36 steak is over the top. Â Would expect outdoor patio eating in warm weather will be the place to be and will return in the spring to try it out.
Review Source:I had not been to the Log Cabin in years so I was excited to have thanksgiving dinner with my family there. My mom had thanksgiving dinner there under the old management years ago as well, so she too was excited for this special meal. They didnot have a pre fixe menu which is fine; I understand that some people want something other than turkey and mashed potatoes for thanksgiving dinner. But I thinkthey should have gone with a pre fixe menu because our meal took about 2.5 hours before it was all said and done. The restaurant was not full by any means, only a few large groups for the holiday. If they were short-staffed, it would have been in their favor to have fewer options available. Our appetizers came after a reasonable amount of time but then our salads came 10-15 minutes after completely finishing our appetizers. Then our server waited until the last person finished their entire salad to start clearing and bringing our entrees which in turn was another 15 minutes. The plates were very hot which I assumed to be from sitting under heat lamps (I used to work in the biz). I just could not believe how long each course took to arrive. We all agreed that the food was quite good (minus he fact that my salmon was served quinoa instead of pasta like the menu stated and was way too buttery). I just would have liked to have the service sped up a bit. I lose my appetite if I have to sit for that long.
Review Source:Enjoyed a beautiful evening and delicious dinner on the patio at the Log Cabin.  The outdoor  setting they have created is lovely and perfect for a special summer occasion...our wedding anniversary.  We received special touches such as a heart shaped freshly baked loaf of bread and cute little bubble wands ( think wedding) which were a fun surprise!
We had crab and avocado and grilled shrimp with gorgonzola  sauce for appetizers, followed by swordfish with a pineapple salsa and a cheese and corn risotto.  Dessert was strawberry shortcake ....best ever!  Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared.  All served beautifully by a very attentive and friendly waiter.
We will definitely be back for more!

Where'd the bar go? The lounge/bar area was cozy but the former bar made this place special. We were at the restaurant with two other couples, our regular dining party. We've all been here before under the former owner. First time back for wife and me. Absent was the old service excellence. None of the waitstaff smiled - not even a crack. Except for a waiter in the bar who joked about the cocktail I ordered - Hendricks Gibson. He related it to Jimmy Hendrix and his Gibson guitar. Clever. We shared appetizers - cheese board, calamari was fair and bland, roasted red beets that I swear were out of a can. I had the lamb chops and they were ok. Wife had salmon on capellini and she said it was very good. A few filets were reported to be good. Sea bass excellent. But baked potatoes were not hot. Â Wine list is one page and we had two excellent reds - one was the malbec and the other was the cabernet-caymus vineyards. Maybe it was an off-night for the restaurant but I felt no warmth. And since there were 6 of us (only 6), they took the initiative to include the gratuity in the check! I want to rate this 3 stars-A OK, but it wasn't.
Review Source:First time back after the reopen. This was a big let down. Went on Feb 14 and to start the service was very slow for a half empty restrauant took forever to get drinks and ordered our meals. House salad was ok the ny strip was close to the worst steak ever. My wife had the sea bass and again ok. Sides of baked potatoes and string beans were cold. Very sad this was the place in Lancaster county for steak in the past now it is below averge with a great name of the past. Glad to see it reopen but with the service and food quality it won't be around long. Save your time and money and just go to  a wedding to get the same food
Review Source:Service and attitude are excellent. Â Venue is exactly what you'd expect from a place named "Log Cabin." Â Two of three entrees were good. Â Steak was the one of three that was not. Â Meat was cooked as ordered, just not a very good cut. Â For what they charge, I expected better. Â Overall good experience, just overpriced.
Review Source:Over a covered bridge and then up the big hill, we arrived at the log cabin.  they stuck  the six of us in this really cozy room upstairs - extremely quiet except for some spoiled toddler across the way - one of them yuppy toddlers.  All service was very professional and the waiter was informed and his presence gave  our little room a serene equanimity.  my sister in law didn't like her appetizer of calamari because she just couldn't get over that it iwas squid.  Squid served in a bowl too, never saw that before but man, it was the best darn squid i ever had.  My chilean sea bass was beyond great.  My wife's crab cakes really good,  Other's had filet mignon, chicken breast with mushrooms - all fabulous.  My brother in law's NY strip was tasty but tough.  I had piece and had to chew for like 5 minutes.  His jaws were aching.  he shoulda sent it back but he's a pastor out west and just too nice of a guy.  Coffee was just okay.  It was fresh but they need to up the ante on the quality.
Nice spacious bathroom  upstairs so you didn't have to traipse all over the place.  Had an unusual painting of some naked people on the wall - kinda like Leroy Nieman doing nudes.  Plus, i like the toilet paper holder - one them free standing ones you can move around - I like being able to adjust things to my needs in the bathroom.  Gotta little cold in our room for my  wife so i had to take my shirt off (i had two shirts on) and give it to her.  Fortunately for all concerned, her legs weren't cold.  but really just a wonderful place, with a myriad of rooms, excellent service and great food - would love return soon as long as my brother in law- the non pastor one - pays again.  But maybe the pastor could pay next time.  we'll let him pray before the meal so he can then put it on the church's tab and call it an outreach ministry.
Opted to go to Log Cabin for a romantic dinner when we were visitng the area. It's sort of in the middle of no where but we had a great experience.
It's a dressy environment so no schlumpy clothes! Our waitress was very friendly and the service was great all around.
I had the pork chop which was delicious and cooked well. It came with some delicious sides - a baked potato, green beans (my fave). We also got bread for the table - still warm and very good!
My bf got the crab cakes and judging by his clean plate it was great!
This seems to be one of the few dressy places for dinner in the area and I'd definitely recommend it!
I recently visited the Log Cabin for a friend's birthday celebration and was very impressed. I had the vegetable panache, and also tried the duck, and everything was delicious. On a side note, I'm not sure why people think it is acceptable to wear jeans and shorts in a fine dining establishment. Is it really that hard to put on something nice?
