They offer family style meals for parties of three or more. If you have less than three people, they are not accommodating.  They said  since we only had two people we could could get  family style if we purchased a third meal.  We did not feel it was right to charge us extra, so we decided to just order al al carte.  We both ordered a different entree, and a couple of sides.
They brought our side dish of slaw first, without any plates. We noticed that those that had ordered family style received their plates before getting any food. I joked we probably had to order family style to get a plate.
When the waitress came around, I inquired about plates. She brought one small saucer. She informed us that was all we were entitled to, since we did not order family style. I asked if she was kidding! She then informed us that she could bring a plate, but would have to charge an extra dollar per plate! Â Needless to say, we walked out!!
In the unlikely event we return, I guess we will take somebody else with us, or take our own plates.
Food was ok. Rolls were pretty great. Small, though - dollar roll size. We were brought 4 rolls for our party of 3. Would have liked more, but the waitress took our order & we didn't see her again until she brought the check FORTY FIVE minutes later (someone else brought the food to the table). Â Never once checked on us or offered a refill on anything. She brought two little carry-out containers for us to take the leftover meat (she specified meat) home. We had veggies left over too...what do they do with those???
When she brought the ticket she stated the price by saying, "I need..." and stood there while we dug the money out to pay the tab IMMEDIATELY. Guess a third trip to our table would have been just too much for her.
Worst service we've ever had. The food wasn't good enough to overcome the shortcomings on service.
We got here less than 30 minutes to closing, so getting someone's attention for a table was a little difficult.. once we did things were great.
I ordered hot ham and cheese sandwich and german fries. both were amazing. I never had german fries before-- now I'm addicted. For ham and cheese sandwich I was blown away. Thick, warm ham and ooey, gooesy cheese- delicious. My bf wasn't too hungry and went with an order of their cheese balls-- wonderful balls of lightly battered cheddar cheese served with warm marinara.
You must try the Log Inn when visiting southern Indiana! Â As a kid (okay even today) I loved all the antique coin-operated machines they've placed throughout the restaurant. Â The food is delicious, order the Family Style, you won't leave hungry! Â The food comes is bowls for passing around the table, and you can select from several meats and vegetables. Â The mashed potatoes and white gravy are addicting, I could easily eat an entire bowl by myself! Â Great place when you want some homestyle cooking, and well worth the short drive from Evansville. Â By the way, they don't take credit cards, and they are closed several days a week, so you may want to call ahead and make sure they are open!
Review Source:We were staying in a hotel near here. I saw a sign that said something like...Eat at the Log Inn, the oldest restaurant in Indiana. Lincoln ate here.... Â We had to give it a go....
We loved being seated in the original part of the restaurant that was an old log structure (I assume the rest of the restaurant had been added on around it.) The sealant was missing between the logs and it had such a great, old feel.
The food was family style. All the meal sides were determined for us (I think they were cole slaw, green beans, mashed potatoes and corn - maybe bean?). All we had to choose was the meat and then we all shared everything. The food was nice and fresh.
Our help was enthusiastic and efficient. The restaurant was very full of all types of parties on a Saturday night. Despite the crowd, we only had to wait 5 minutes for a table. I assume it was not all traveling types like us... I highly recommend going there if you're ever in this neck of the woods.
I have been dining here for years and the food is always great. I just love the catfish filet and the family style is wonderful. Last night I went there and enjoyed the meal as usual but the service from the waitress was awful to say the least. Oh she was pleasant but i felt that i was imposing on her. An example is I asked for some more bread sticks and she looked in the basket and said "you still have some left when you finish those I'll bring some more". I had to get my own mug for the beer and when asked for a take home bag i had to get my own. I will still rate this 4 stars but if the food was not so good I would not come back. Oh by the way the tip was $15.00.
