This used to be my favorite place in Houghton Lake. The food is good. They have cut the menu down from what it used to be but there are several good choices. The staff is friendly sometimes, sometimes not so much. The problem, service (or lack thereof). It did not used to be like this. It's terrible. Example: last night it took fifteen minutes for someone to even take our drink order. Then it took OVER ONE HOUR for our food to come. Seriously. Even after it was prepared it sat under the heat lamp for ten minutes while we waited for someone to bring it over. I wish I could say this was an isolated incident, but I can't. We had terrible service the last time we went too. Also, terrible service on a Sunday night during Tip Up Town when there was not even many patrons in the place. Don't ever go here during Tip Up Town. Big mistake. Beer ONLY comes in a can and you get your choice of five menu items, all over priced and not good. What a shame! I used to love to eat here. There are not many good places to eat in this town. Most of the ones that were good have closed. If you are looking for a good meal, reasonably priced, skip this place, unless you want to drink more than eat. Try Kilcare Inn, G's Pizza, or if you like diner style go to Garrett's.

The only one in the area that provides good service and atmosphere. Food is good, excellent service. We went there twice in the same day , at nights they have live bands and it was fun

Nice little place. Friendly people. They have a whole array of beers strewn around the bar...but no beer menu. Food was not bad but a very up north feel. I would be very curious to see how it feels in the summer. After a long day of winter activities, it was a cool place to relax at the end of the day.

I've never ate here so I can't comment on the food.  As far as the weekend entertainment it is hit and miss.  Many of the bands have a set list limited to AC/DC, Nickelback, etc.  I wish they would book bands that play some good 'ol country music and classic rock (not the same songs you hear on the radio all day long).  The drinks are a bit on the expensive side during 'entertainment'.  The only other bar in the area that has live music is the Limberlost and at that bar it is all people in their early to mid 20's pretty much.  Being I'm in my mid 30's I prefer a little bit of an older crowd then that.  This bar has more of a broad range of people which I like.  We own a cottage down the road so this place is convenient.

I visited Houghton Lake last year and the girl at the hotel counter pointed us in the direction of the Long Branch for dinner.  She said it was the best in town.  I'm glad we took her recommendation.  I had the cod and it was delicious.  Cooked perfectly and very tasty.  The atmosphere was pretty good too.  They had a band playing that night and they weren't half bad.  During the band breaks a DJ played music (mostly hard rock).  My most vivid memory was of some girl in her mid twenties absolutely ROCKING OUT to some Nickelback song.  I've never understood people's obsession with either really liking or really hating Nickelback, but seeing that girl dance and headbang to it was worth every penny of my meal/drink costs.

We actually had lunch there the next day and it was just as good as the night before only with a much quieter atmosphere.  The same girls who were working there Friday night were already there on Saturday at noon so you could tell they actually care about the place with that combined with there attitudes.  I give the Long Branch my strongest recommendation if you ever find yourself in the Houghton Lake area.

Had the broccoli cheddar bites, CRAZY good! Short walk from my hotel and the local Michigan beer on tap was an extra plus. The ShockTop Lemon was AMAZING, must try for the summer months! Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly too. Hope to visit again next summer! :)

Waited at least 10 minutes on a Friday evening and never even got greeted! Gave up and walked out. Mass confussion with no host(ess) and not enough servers. Went to Kilkare Inn where we were greeted right away!

Aww, i'm torn. We'd read such great reviews and really wanted to like the place. The salads were so fresh and yummy. The mini corn dogs for kids was delicious. Green beans were unique and fabulous. Atmosphere was excellent and staff superb, the beer samplers were cheap and so much fun, but heres our beef:
My battered jumbo shrimp was plain tasteless and fell apart. The mesquite potato wedges were too hard. The walleye was flavorless. Food (salads!) came an hour and 15 mins after we ordered em. Really such a shame. But maybe it was our fault for going on a Saturday at 6pm. Next time we're in town we just might try their sammies and chicken wings, they looked amazing but who knows, our dishes looked better than they tasted. Sorry :( we tried...

Was very surprised by how good the food was. I had salmon on my parents recommendation and it was fantastic. The drinks were good and our waitress was very attentive and friendly.

Great service, happy helpful staff.  Drinks were strong but still tasted great.  Atmosphere was "bar" but it was still clean.  The cheff came out and asked how we liked out food.  The food was awesome.  We had bar burgers, mini burgers, french fries, mini tacos.  They were all great.  We debated the 2lbs of wings with XXX sauce but we just opted to try the sauce. Hot.  This would be a good food challenge. We ended up taking food with us.   You won't leave hungry.  They have bands in the evening although we didn't get to enjoy them.

The burger I had for lunch was really good as were the onion rings. I would go back.
