This hotel is very dated. Â The room was in need of a full make over. Â The kitchen area had a very old microwave and refrigerator. Â Models I have not seen in 25 years. Â The cabinets were just plywood with a cheap countertop. Â The vinyl floor was stained. Â Bathroom also needed to be gutted very old. Â Most disturbing was the smell in the room. Â It smelled like strong chemical cleaners and we could not get rid of the smell. Â We did not eat at the restaurant, but had a drink at the bar. Â Workers seemed friendly to us. Â Overall this is a a very budget one star hotel at a five star price.
There was NO internet service in the rooms either. The television was an old fashioned set with old fashioned reception.
The first time we came to this marina/resort was during the August long weekend (long weekend for us Canadians anyway). Â Small glitch after we arrived on our boat and was assign a slip in the marina: the resort office couldn't find our reservation, even though the dock master seemed to have it. Â No big deal, they had room so we paid and that was that.
We were looking forward to checking this place out, seeing as it was one of only two marinas in Fisherman Bay, and within walking distance of Lopez Village. Â Out of the two marinas, this was the only one with amenities. Â It has a pool! Â And a hot tub! Â Well, we took one look at the pool (teeming with children), and the hot tub (over-chlorinated, and also teeming with slightly older children), and decided against going in.
Despite the disappointment with the amenities, we were quite happy with the restaurant, which seems to have improved since the previous Yelp reviews were posted. Â Service was quick and friendly, food came fast and hot. Â It wasn't fancy, but it was satisfying.
That was our first stay.
The second time we came back to this resort was Labour Day weekend, a busy weekend to be sure. Â Which is why we called a week in advance to make a reservation for a slip in the marina. Â The dock master, or whoever answered the phone, took the reservation. Â Imagine our surprise when we arrived, and they said not only did they not have a reservation for us, the marina was fully booked! The staff in the resort office were not gracious about their mistake and didn't offer to make amends in any way. Fortunately, the marina next door had a cancellation and they were able to fit us in, otherwise we were looking at a ruined long weekend trip.
Talking to some of the staff at both marinas, it became clear that this was not an unusual occurrence, that this resort has flubbed reservations and double-booked guests before. Â If we ever decide to come back, we will make sure we have written confirmation and make a follow up phone call first.
We stayed at the hotel one night in August. Â The service is horrible. Â The people that work there seemed totally put out by having to check us in or answer any questions. Â The rate we were told on the phone was lower than the actual rate we ended up paying. Â I explained I was quoted a different rate over the phone and they were not willing to honor it so make sure you get your rate in writing when making the reservation. Â The room we had came with a microwave and fridge. Â Neither worked. Â Unfortunately we didn't disover this until 9pm when we were making dinner. Â I asked for a discount when we checked out and they would not give us one. Â They said we should have called and asked them to fix it. Â
The room was simple but clean. Â Expensive for the quality!! Â We did not eat at the restaurant but friends did and did not recommend it. Â Bar was OK for drinks.
Naming this place a "resort" is sort of like naming your child "Angel" and then being surprised when she ends up a hooker. Â Even by PNW standards; this is not a resort!
The "resort" comprises of a cheap building with rooms and a pool on the dry side of the street and the restaurant on the water side. Â The building itself is pretty nice with big exposed beams and a great view of the bay but the service, quality of food and value were terrible. Â There was just one server, and it could be he was also doing the cooking. Â Much better choice would be to go just down the street to The Galley.
