I've eaten here regularly for over ten years. Â This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the eastern U. S.! Â I've lived and eaten all over the country, including 6 years in New Mexico, and outside of Santa Fe, this place is my choice.
The decor is simple ("Mexican kitsch") and the place is quiet (no TV; low-playing Mexican music for background). Â It's family owned and operated, and the service is quick, polite ("Senor", Senora") and friendly, without being too assertively familiar.
Everything on the menu is tasty and what you'd expect from standard Mexican fare in the U.S. Â
What sets this place apart though are their chiles rellenos. Â They use large, meaty Poblano peppers (not cheap, tissue-thin Anaheims), filled with a rich queso and ground beef filling. Â The egg-white coating is crisp and the light sauce is very tasty. Â They are served piping hot. Â These are the best rellenos I've had outside of Santa Fe.
The prices here are very reasonable.
Overall it's a great eatery with great value.
This place has one of my favorite guilty pleasures: Queso Blanco dipping sauce stuff. Â I don't know why I like it so much. Â It's rather hard to find it major metropolitan areas. Â Other than that it's run-of-the-mill mexican fare. Â The staff here is very nice and attentive, although that's probably the norm in Clinton, TN.
