I've been here several times since my original review. This place can frustrate me at times because, as good as it is, it really could be even better.
Case in point: We had a lovely dinner out on the outdoor patio -- which is one of the finest places to eat outside in the Farmington Valley. A view of Heublein Tower on a nice evening is fabulous. Â The music is playing. All good.
Except, why did it take 25 minutes for the apps to come out? Or to get sugar for an iced tea? It wasn't crowded and it wasn't complicated -- wings and calamari.
Again, the wings and calamari were terrific. Good quality meat and squid. But it took a while to get it. Main course also came out after a wait too. Again, it was quite good -- cobb salad was enough to feed 3 people, for example. Â Is the kitchen working on perfection? Or were there too many takeout orders holding things up?
So, if this place wants to earn a fifth star, it needs to work on the service and speed. Â The quality is great and the decor/atmosphere is wonderful on these summer nights. Just don't screw up something good!
Came here after a search for a lunch place while waiting for our mini Schnauzer to finish his trip to the doggie salon. Lime Grill is tucked on top of a hill amid the many shoppes in the Riverdale Farms shopping center on rte. 10 in Avon. Althugh their sign boasts opening at noon, I walked up a few minutes prior and it was evident that it was open a bit earlier, as two patrons already were enjoying themselves at the bar.
I sat down a few stools away, enough for autonomous iPhoning, but close enough to carry on friendly conversation.
The bar area was done over in dark woods, with a view on the left of Avon Mountain, and four flat-screen TVs behind the bar. Comfy. Right away I noticed they had Lagunitas IPA on draught...I knew it would be a good experience. (They also carried Beack East Ale, a local favorite from Bloomfield)
I perused the menu, which was not laden with many many choices, still enough diversity to satisfy most, with a good lean on apps, salads and bar food. One thing that intrigued me, though I didn't try them, was a signature creation called Bocce Balls - fried dough stuffed with sasuage and ricotta. May be next time, but this time I chose Buffalo wings and their special burger of the day, the American Burger, a 1/2 lb. beauty laid upon white toast, with lettuce, tomato and American cheese. The burger was succulent, cooked to a near-perfect medium. The bread on burger was a bit reminiscent of the famous Big Beef of Friendly's fame, although this rendition was far superior. The wings were good-sized, grilled, and dressed in a good, but not great, buffalo sauce. The accompanying blue cheese dressing was 2/3 chunks. Here's where I go a bit on a tangent...if you're giving somebody dressing for dipping, give them dressing, not chunks. Also, each chunk was about the same size and cubic shape, which leads me to believe it was a less expensive commercial brand.
I didn't stay for dessert (exept a second IPA) because my Zeus was due from Doggie dos. Suffice it to say I had a good lunch, albeit a bit on the pricier side, with 2 draughts, a burger and wings coming to just over $35. We'll try this spot again for dinner, maybe in the dining room, and maybe when not pressured by picking up our pooch. Overall it was a good experience. The bartender was friendly, eager to please, and ketp attention on the tables in the bar as they filled over the course of the lunch period.
I like this place. They have the best patio in the area and the bar area is cozy. Great place to watch a game. I don't really come here for the food as it is pretty average bar food. But, I like the atmosphere and location so it works! And they have happy hour which is great. Can't beat a beer on a patio. Hard to come by around here!
Review Source:I came here after hiking Heublein Tower and I have to say this place really surprised me. I wasn't expected a whole lot. Started with the chicken Tacos and they were spot on, dripping with flavor. You would be surprised how many bland tacos Ive come across. Next we tried the Heublein salad. after all we just hike Heublein so why not keep the theme going right?. Now Im not much of a salad girl, so it's gotta be something ridiculously good for me to consider eating it again over something with more of a chew factor. Let me tell you, this was probably the best salad I may have ever had. It was THAT good. Who knew?
Review Source:Went for a quick drink after attending the Back East brewery yelp event, but after taking to the bartender and looking at the menu, we decided to try a few sandwiches. Both were amazing. The burger topped with pulled pork was very delicious. The fries were cooked perfectly. The blackened chicken sandwich was also very good. If I was ever in the area again I would stop in for more.
Review Source:Expensive blah food, ricotta sausage balls and margarita in a regular glass, and they hint at being a Mexican bar. Service was the best thing about the place. Apparently based on other reviews i need to try the pulled pork Mac and cheese, when i return I'll redo my review but until then...
Review Source:Oh lime bar, how i really wanted to like you. Â Unfortunately, the experience was so lackluster that me and my companion actually decided to scrap things and head elsewhere. Â Let me back up:
Came here on a recent Monday, knowing the place would be nice and relaxed. Â Happy hour is Monday thru friday with some good specials: $3 tall bud light drafts & miller high life cans, $4 well drinks and margaritas, and i think $5 glasses of wine. Â Appetizer specials are cheap, but half orders, so not sure how much of a deal you're getting. Â I went with the high life ( i know- super classy) and my companion got a margarita, rocks with salt. Â We were both impressed with the size of her drink, and it apparently packed a punch (though she's definitely a lightweight).
The menu is a mix of italian-american and American. Â Typical appetizers (nachos, wings, and the like) mix with burgers, salads, entrees, and pastas. Â Featured that night were raspberry-lime wings, which sounded intriguing, but i was kind of winged out, so we went with artichoke dip and the happy hour (1/2 portion) bocce balls. Â Note that i said artichoke dip, and not spinach and artichoke dip- just artichokes. Â This was disappointing because it was canned artichoke tang on top of cream cheese tang, lacking any kind of vegetal quality. Â It was definitely rich, but too sour and not enjoyable. Â The pita chips, however, with a thing of beauty. Â They were clearly fresh-fried and still had a toothsome quality.
Now- the bocce balls were on the opposite end of the spectrum. Â They're described as fried dough balls stuffed with meat, and these were super successful. Â I had imagined the dough to be of a more, like, carnival-type fried dough variety, but these were clearly more substantial, i think made with pizza dough. Â The dough was crisp on the outside, providing the perfect barrier for the savory, flavorful filling (it tasted like beef mixed with sausage). Â The tomato sauce was hearty and had good depth of flavor. Â I would highly recommend this appetizer.
Considering the rest of the menu was sort of banal, we did decide to head elsewhere (review to follow, of course). Â Our service was just eh. Â The bartender never introduced himself, threw some boxes around (seriously- loudly threw boxes), and i had to lean over the bar to get his attention so we could pay the bill. Â Also, listening to him recite the happy hour offerings 3 times to 3 separate groups of guests was annoying- get happy hour menus, management!
It's too bad, because i feel like this place has potential, but i won't drive 40 minutes for generally average food and service. Â Hope the rest of you yelpers have a better experience when you visit to try the bocce balls (because those were really good).
Went back last night and had a very nice experience. Although we chose to eat inside, we were offered an outdoor spot- the patio was crowded, the weather was very nice, and the singer guitarist (whose music was piped inside) was quite gifted. We ordered an artichoke dip and pita toasts ($9) as an appy, and our dinner choices were a Cobb Salad ($11) , a classic hamburger ($11), and Michael's Brick Roasted Half Chicken ($16) . The service was attentive and friendly. Our meals were all very good, the portion sizes were generous, and our server scaled a dining room chair to manually surf through hundred of Direct TV stations for us, so we could watch the Yankee game.
My Cobb salad was very good- nice grilled chicken cubes, crumbles of blue cheese, with fresh lettuce, tomato and crisp bacon pieces. I took home plenty. My Black and Blue (Guiness and Blue Moon) was excellent.
They have a nice Happy Hour from 3:00-6:00 on Monday to Friday. Millers or Buds for $3, wines for $5, and a whole bunch of $3 Bar Bites- Jalapeno Poppers, Bocce Balls, Fried Mozz, wings, nachos, and 4 kinds of fries.
I've only had the lime bar once so I'm not the best judge but whatever...I'm writing a review.
Overall, it was ok. The burger is not as good as a five guys or counter burger. (Counter is a restaurant in Blueback square by the way). I like my burgers medium and it was cooked properly but it has that heavy char on the outside that i did not like. I mean the fries were ok and overall it was just an average burger. My brother raved about his burger (I think he got one with pulled pork on it) so hey who knows. Anyways, Lime Bar is worth a shot but I personally prefer burgers from other joints.
Ugh! Â I never know how to award stars in my reviews. Â
Let me start at the end of my time at Lime Bar. Â We got the check quickly and I loved my mac and cheese with pulled pork in it. Â The patio is spacious and in a nice setting. Â Good beers too. Â Our waitress was terrible. Â She was so bad that another waiter stopped by to ask if we needed anything. Â (yes, a new waiter, STAT). Â I'm don't want to hold it against Lime Bar that they have one person who needs a career change (or was just having a wicked bad day) so I'm sure I'll try it again in the future. Â I'll post a follow up if/when I return.
the lime bar has been on my list for some time now and yesterday me and my co-workers stopped in for drinks at the end of the day. it was a beautiful day and we sat on the patio, expanding our party with no problem. the service was great. i didn't order any food but did have bits of the fries, eggplant fries, and mussels. all delicious and i'm looking forward to going back! this is definitely a welcome addition to the area and with the weather getting better and better every day outdoor seating is invaluable!
