I am a sucker for a nice courtyard. I have been frequenting Mahogany Bar for about 15 years. Its my go to spot when i'm in the Burg. Â The inside is narrow and cozy but I always find a spot in the courtyard to sit and relax. Â The drinks are decently priced. The only reason I knocked off a star is for their customer service. My last visit was so atrocious that I couldn't make it 5 stars.
Besides my last visit, I dont remember the service being so poor so dont let that keep you away.
Its a bonus that the food is pretty decent too.
Very nice! Â Along with many other indicators in H-burg, the Mahogany Bar has taken pointers from the 21st century and trendied-up their offerings. Â I first came here in the summer of 2011 and liked it well enough, getting a small dinner and a couple drinks with friends on the patio. Â Then, visiting again this past summer, I stopped in once more, and was very pleased with some of the updates. Â
The main change is their new-found focus on classic and craft cocktails. Â You can get a few quite creative recipes off of their list, or order up something interesting you may have found somewhere else. Â The great thing about new cocktail bars is, with their ingredient list expanded, they're now able to make more than your standard highball mixer or sour-mix drink. Â Add in the new ability of Mississippi bars to source a far wider range of craft beers, and the Mahogany is a drinking establishment that rivals the offerings of cities ten times the size of Hattiesburg. Â
With the classic comfortable wood-paneled interior and the amazingly verdant brick courtyard, it's a great place to stop for a meal, drink, or snack when you're almost but not quite to New Orleans. Â The staff seems very enthusiastic about their new direction too, which makes the experience all that much better.
...it really is all about the happy hour though. Â Our table is always FULL of queued-up two-for-one drinks. Â It's dangerous. Â Don't take 4th street on your way home...you might hit a roadblock.
The cocktail waitresses are pretty good too...but that might be because I'm always sitting with a regular.
