After living in Stoughton for almost a year, my husband and I were excited to finally be able to stop at the Pour House. Â Meh. Â We got there at about 8:30 on a Saturday night after having dinner at a restaurant nearby. Â It was empty. Â It's been a while since we've been out so we thought maybe we were just part of the early crowd. Â By the time we left at 10:30, there were 10 other people there. Â We didn't try the food, but the drinks were good. Â It seems like it's fighting with itself between being a bar and a restaurant, and not really succeeding at either. Â We might give it another try, but we're not aching to go back.
Review Source:The Pour House may be one of the only places serving food late into the night, but thank goodness for it. Stopped in here after seeing a show at the Stoughton Opera House. Quickly ordered up some drinks and some food at 10:30 at night. The beer battered fries were fab and the burgers were decent. Appreciated the game cards on the table to keep you occupied and enjoyed the variety of live music. Cute setting, too.
Review Source:Yelp... please - give us half-star capability, please?! Â
The Pour House is quite honestly a 2.5 star joint, primarily for the reasons that others have identified... while the beer selections are decent and the service is generally very good, the food is sub-par and is often wrong/different than what the menu describes.
I took a motorcycle ride from Madison to Stoughton tonight, and decided to try the Pour House. Â I arrived at around 7:30, and was shocked to find the place completely empty. Â There was one older gentleman sitting at the bar, drinking some beer, and that was it. Â The rest of the place was e-m-p-t-y empty. Â
The bartender greeted me and invited me to sit anywhere I'd like. Â I grabbed a table near the front window. Â She shared with me the evening's specials - all taps were $2 and all craft bottles were $3. Â A food menu was presented and I browsed it carefully before settling on a turkey wrap, no cheese.
While waiting for the wrap, I sized-up the place, and really liked what I saw. Â It was dark, with lots of brick and heavy wood accents. Â I could see myself returning here with a DD and drinking-up a storm.
The food arrived and the order was wrong on several fronts... it included cheese and it didn't come on the wrap that was described on the menu. Â
The server asked how things were; I was busy picking off the cheese when she stopped by. Â I said that I'd try it once I removed the cheese, and she said, "Sounds good! Â I'll check back in a minute!" Â
Arrrrrrrgh...
After removing the cheese, I sampled the wrap and... well, it wasn't that great. Â The turkey tasted cheap and watery. Â The guac came from a packet, I'm sure. Â The wrap was chalky. Â On the plus side, the tomatoes and lettuce were exceptionally fresh. Â But not worth $10.
The iced tea was delish - super tasty. Â Service remained attentive, but not "helpful." Â A good waitress would've noticed the cheese issue. Â But oh well.
Pour House = MEH
Food = 1.75 stars
Value = 2 stars
Service = 2 stars (great speed/availability - not real keen/observant)
MISC = 3.5 stars (great atmosphere and good beer selection)
Next time I'm in town I'll skip the food and enjoy the brews. Â In an ideal world, the Pour House would pay attention to these reviews and correct their food wrongs...
Great place to have a drink, nice building, reasonably comfortable. There's often live music on weekends, as well. Â I would take a pass on the food, however. Â I never leave food on my plate, but it was more than easy to not eat about half the meal we were served. I was a little surprised that we were without service for the last hour and a half of our visit. Once our meal check was cleared, we did not see a server for the remainder of the evening.
Review Source:Went to the Our House for beers and an appetizer one night and had a good experience. Â Nice atmosphere, good selection, and friendly service. Â A few weeks later we took some out-of-town guests back to Pour House for dinner. Â We ended up waiting for an hour before the food came up. Â Drinks were always empty. Â No comments or apologies from manager or the server. Â Once the food came out it was clear there was some break down in communication or kitchen operations... Â food was cold and tasted awful. Â We will not be going back again, unless it's just for a pint.
Review Source:I was in Stoughton visiting some good friends of mine, and we stopped in for a drink. Â This review is based on drink only.
They had a very nice beer selection, and rumor on the street is that the even have had Upland on tap in the past. Â They also bring your pretzels to snack on, and if you show your ticket stub from the badger football game you get a free drink! Â
The service was great, and it appears like there is a stage area for entertainment. Â I bet this place is hopping at night, knowing the entertainment hub that Stoughton is. Â
But seriously, take a stroll down main street in Stoughton, and stop in here for a drink.
I enjoyed the play on words in the name of this restaurant.
This review is for food only. Â The place seems like a good venue for live music and bar scene in general.
We went to the Pour House for lunch. Â The food we had wasn't bad but it was not what we ordered. Â I ordered the pizza burger that came without gardinera even though the menu has it on that. Â I also got cole slaw instead of potato salad. Â My girlfriend ordered a Mexican style burger that was supposed to have chips and salsa but none came. Â The battered french fries were really good. Â The beer selection was really good too. Â Service was a little slow and a little flakey.
great, classy little watering hole in iconic downtown stoughton.
this is definitely worth checking out for one of their outstanding collections of fine craft beers. the selection is easily on par with many of the great places in madison or chicago.
be careful though. their hours can be a little weird, and don't plan on bar hopping. there's really only one other place nearby worth visiting and it's a wine bar.
also, i love the bar's commitment to live music, but it is often a little too loud for it's facility.
I haven't had an opportunity to dine at their tables or bar because I live out of state, but I am moving back to the area and it is top on my list of places to eat! Â My parents absolutely love the atmosphere, and have told me repeatedly that their food is amazing. Â I have spoken to several neighbors and friends who frequent the restaurant, even hosting events there! Â The owners are extremely friendly and generous, and genuinely concerned that each patron has a wonderful time. Â I'm sure my rating will soar once I've had a chance to eat there!!!
Review Source:I stopped at the Pour House this afternoon to catch up with a friend. Beautifully decorated, clean, and a funny/dry bartender. My friend got coffee, I got a root beer (the responsible though tough choice with their tasty beer menu), and we split the artichoke dip.
The dip was a bit greasy, but totally tasty, and served with an assortment of crackers (I'm pretty into crackers, so I was pumped to have six to choose from) (I am a huge nerd, because this genuinely excited me).
There's a giant screen in the back of the bar, so it'd be great for sports-watching if you don't want to go to a sports bar, and the tables feature trivia/Trivial Pursuit cards and cards from the 1986 version of Scruples. My favorite question involved the tough choice of putting out your cigarette if someone was having a reaction to the smoke during a business meeting. Who knew you could still smoke at work in the 80s?
