So, first off, this place is located way back in the middle of nowhere, we honestly thought we were lost on the drive over.
Once we got in, the bar was right in the center and was quickly crowded and hard to get around, and the bartenders seemed very inexperienced. Â Two cocktails (gin and tonic and a vodka/soda) took a ridiculously long time to make, and the bartender really seemed like she didn't know what she was doing.
Our party was seated, and the service was very slow, over a half hour to get a beer. Â On top of that, the prices were high, nachos with chicken shouldn't end up at $15...they tasted ok, but had very little chicken for the upcharge, and had cheese sauce instead of real cheese. Â Our friend ordered the chili, which came with a huge portion of bread, but apparently the chili was only "Meh, I've had better." Â The portions are generous, but that's all I can say.
I guess if I lived around the corner I might go here once in awhile for convenience sake, but I definitely wouldn't drive more than five minutes to this place ever again.
Love this place. Â Has a nice hole in the wall feel and the service is great. Â Great burgers at a good price and the drinks are very reasonably priced. Â
Only down side is, their fried food always come out with tiny portions. Â I mean, cmon, its fried food, it won't cost them an arm and a leg to give a decent basket of onion rings.
Although this joint is in close proximity of my home, I have not frequented it as much as I'd expect to - but that's neither here nor there. Â Let's talk about this place. Â It's in a nice, charming area. Â Aesthetically, the interior is average. Â Some random jerseys on the wall. Â TVs are awkwardly positioned. Â But if you have a good spot at the bar, I suppose this isn't a problem. Â
On to the food. Â It's quite good. Â Wings were very good. Â Moist, yet crispy. Â Good burgers. Â Can't say a bad word about the food. Â Their selection of beers isn't terrible but it doesn't measure up to some other places in the area. Â And this leads me to a major violation. Â At my most recent visit, I ordered a Guinness. Â It was poured properly and in the only glass it should be served in - a Guinness pint glass. Â However, my 2nd Guinness was served in your run of the mill, 12oz beer glass. Â How can the same bartender do this? Â If you drink Guinness, you understand. Â That aside, this place is an above average establishment.
Not truly a pub, not entirely a sports bar. Here's the scoop: seldom is there a ridiculous wait to get a table and there are televisions spread throughout the restaurant and bar to ensure a good view of the game. However, Main Street Pub often has many tables with families eating, so you lose out on the sports bar feel.
Food is okay. Decent sandwiches and an array of appetizers. Other than seasonal Flying Fish selections, nothing real interesting on tap.
BTW, if you have children, Main Street Pub is accommodating and has a kid's menu.
Whenever I come home from travels, or home from medical school, or really any time I make my way back to NJ, I always look forward to getting over to the Pub. Decent priced delicious food? Check. Great atmosphere for sports? Check. Great owner, manager, and staff? Check check & check.
Good selection of beer and even make my "Smithwick's Special" (shot of Guinness to top)? Check
Good crowd usually? Check
Heck, there is a reason we through my dad's 60th here & whenever I get back to town my friends know to just meet me over at my, errrr, the Pub.
The only thing keeping this from a 5 star for me is if it'd have some darts, although where I'd put them there... Yeah who knows. Five it is!
PS My staple dish is actually not on the menu anymore, but that never stops me from getting my grilled chicken fajita sandwich & a side salad. Dee-lish. If only everything else in Main St was as good, but then again... Who needs anything else?
I've been going to this pub since I was little. The food is always good, whether your looking for something simple like soup or salad, or you are in the mood for a delicious hamburger.
As it has been said by the others who have written reviews, the decor consists of Philadelphia Sports memorabilia. Also there are probably around 25 TV's throughout the restaurant and bar so no matter where you are standing, you can watch the sports game that is on.
Also, if you live in South Jersey, you definitely get coupons to this place in the mail. Generally they come in those massive sized envelopes that you more than likely dispose of. If you use them, they'll save you a few bucks off your meal. :)
We went here expecting a little more nightlife feel on a Friday night and got something else.. Family style'ish.. It is a really nice place with great food (BBQ pulled pork!!) but I was hoping for a little more of a "jumpin" environment..
Other than that,
1. Great food
2. Great bar
3. Nice TV and TV placement
4. Friendly staff
I will be going again..
Every once of my being tells me that I shouldn't like this place. Â It's not at all like that usual restaurants that I frequent and it certainly doesn't fit my personality. Â But, good food is good food and nice people are nice people. Â
This place is simple and, for the price you can't go wrong.  It's typical American food and, if you're into sports you'll be thrilled by the EXTENSIVE collection of memoriabial (sp?) the Pub has.  The owner and  manager are personal friends with many of the Philadelphia Flyers, so don't be surprised to see some celebrities slipping in for a bite to eat.
As for the clientel, it's your typical Voorheesian yuppie crowd. Â Just ignore them and you'll have a great dinner.
