A great neighborhood pub. Summertime is great to sit outside on the patio. New menu items are a regular occurrence, keeping things fresh. Popular items stay the same, with my favorites being the clam appetizer, yam chips, and the lamb Philly cheese steak sandwich.

My wife is gluten intolerant, and the wait staff is very knowledgeable about allergy information. A huge beer selection, with lots of local craft beers. I have two small kids, and they are always welcomed but it is not generally frequented by lots of families.

I love hanger steak and good beer options, so the Manito Tap House quickly got my attention (when I was browsing dinner options on the Yelp app). My boyfriend avoids gluten because he doesn't like what it does to him, so I was also excited to see that gluten-free options were highlighted on the menu.

When we arrived on Thursday evening, the place was packed! Good sign. We enjoyed looking at the bottle chandelier and were very impressed by the hostess. She was doing a great job managing the tables, and my boyfriend mentioned that she seems to have a better understanding of what the waiters have to work with than most hostesses. She was very... good at managing a room of tables and customers, I guess. (Hard for me to explain?)

When we sat down, we mentioned a gluten intolerance and they said the hanger steak dish was one of the best gluten-free options. The waiter did a great job taking our orders and helped my boyfriend picked out a cider that he'd enjoy. When the food arrived, however... there were a couple sort of small issues. My boyfriend's salad had croutons on it and his steak had the cheese that he asked for them to not include. We ended up asking for a different salad, but he ended up just eating the entree because that's more of a personal preference (than the gluten).

We did enjoy our salads and rare hanger steaks (with veggies), but if we return I think we'll both ask for no cheese/butter on the steak. I'm sure plenty of people love and will love the cheesy flavored butter... but we are not those people. (I didn't ask for them to skip the cheese/butter this time because it sounded interesting and I wanted to try it.)

I don't live in Spokane and will probably not be visiting the city again soon, but... Manito reminded me of Brouwer's Cafe in the Fremont neighborhood (of Seattle), so I guess I can visit Brouwer's whenever I'm in the mood for something "like Manito." I guess another option is Fremont Brewery... Manito carries at least one of their beers! (If you also live in Seattle and like those places, then I think you might like Manito in Spokane.)

Fresh and flavorful food. Love the very local beer (we had Trashy Blond).  Yam chips are so light and tasty, much better than sweet potato fries. The Carne Adovado was absolutely amazing--the corn tortillas were delicious. The Chicken curry wrap was also seasoned to perfection and again fresh and delightful. The side of mac & cheese was not heavy-handed and sooooo tasty. This restaurant rivals gourmet restaurants anywhere. We're from Moscow ID and we'll be back.
(loved the bike repair station and cool bike racks too).
    YUM!

We were so excited when the Manito Tap House opened - my husband is a beer-snob from Seattle and the Tap House has the BEST selection in Spokane.  I like the unique menu items, most of which are organic and they also have a great vegan selection.  It's also nice that there is a family section so we can walk there with our toddler and have a good beer and meal.  One of our favorite spots for many reasons.

Great place, 50+ beers on tap and every thing is fresh.

Great beer selection, however, the menu is TERRIBLE. Bacon marmalade?.. on a burger? When relaxing with a brew, I like to pair it with a REAL BURGER, with REAL BACON, and REAL LETTUCE. I don't want spring mix, or bacon marmalade. That said, the atmosphere is perfect, and the servers are wonderful. Stop trying to be so eclectic.

Great selection of beer, the best in Spokane. Food was great and the store atmosphere was cool. Always a busy place.

A south hill gem! My boyfriend and love this place and find ourselves here more often than I would like to admit. They have about 50 great beers on tap and I am always impressed how knowledgeable the staff is about each and every one of them! If you aren't in the mood for beer the bartenders make great drinks too! Everyone that works there is super friendly and welcoming. The food is great too; it's fresh and thoughtfully executed. Added bonus: The Tap House is also very environmentally friendly - I wish more businesses were as passionate about the environment as they are! The Tap House is the best!

Stumbled upon this place while here in Spokane on business, WILL be back.  AWESOME FOOD and a even Better beer selection.  While they don't brew their own, they know people who do brew VERY well.  See you next time.

i had lunch here a couple weeks ago - BEST hamburger I've had in this city!!! so good had to bring the wife here for dinner...ordered hamburgers - not as good as the lunch was - interesting...must be two different cooks? i mentioned this to our server in hopes that he would relay to management, because if this place gets consistent, they will rock!
BTW the jalapeno/cheddar soup is terrific! i am not a drinker, but beer lovers will be in heaven here.

An incredibly long list of brews, including 4 types of Cider, right up my alley.

Creative and fun menu.  I started with a fresh salad with great chunks of beets and sweet oranges.  My entree was a spicy wrap with chicken and various fresh veggies, paired with a curry tomato soup.

All of it was delicious.  The service was prompt but not intrusive.  A very nice experience, highly recommend!

Took my wife here for a date night and was very pleased. I tried a sampler of 6 beers and even though I didn't find any to try again It was nice to have the option. My wife had the lamb cheesesteak sandwich and really enjoyed it with the yam chips. I tries the green chili mac & cheese with it set as hot for spice and loved it, took half home and enjoyed it as much the next day. The service was good and our waitress was helpful. The place is a little small and parking is an issue unless you go up to the Ross parking lot above. We got there early enough so there wasn't any wait but by the time we left it was starting to spill out the door. We will be back and next time we're bringing friends!

One of the most dynamic beer selections in Spokane. The food is top notch, but they could use more vegetarian items.  Last time I was there I had vegetable parpadelle pasta (b+).  They had Rye on Rye (12%) from Boulevard Brewing company!

Great place to have a delicious brew and some delicous food.  It is definitely up there with some other great eateries in town.

We have been there a few times since they have opened have they have progressively gotten better.  The chef is awesome and has a great menu.  When/if there is a problem with the food they are always work to make it right.

Probably the best beer selection in town.  Love to see all sour ales on tap which doesn't happen at many places.

Can be busy, but that is to be expected.  A great place to ride your bike to in the summer time and sit on the patio!

I really want to like this place. I come from a college town where good bar/grills are the norm. I live within walking distance, so I'd love to go there all the time.
That said, there are a few things that keep me from doing so.

Here's how a recent visit went:

The (very long) wait: We called at 5 p.m. and were told it would be a 20-minute wait for a table for three (me, the wife, the kid). We were told we'd receive a text when the table was ready. Cool, we thought. After 35 minutes rolled around, we decided their texting software must be broken, so we walked on over. No table. We waited. No table. We were finally seated over one hour after calling. If we had been told the truth, we would have chosen a different place. Instead, we sat around waiting with a 4-year-old getting more and more impatient.
I got the impression they always say the wait is 20 minutes without bothering to check their tables.

Atmosphere: They pretty much nailed this part. Casual, warm, nice. Not enough seating during the winter, but they do the best they can with the space they have to work with.

The food: Mixed reviews here. I had a great beer (bottled, from Stone Brewery) and a very good burger, as did my wife. The kid had mac and cheese and apple sauce (looked pretty good).
Odd thing is, the side dish options for a burger were salad, soup (really??), and something called yam chips. My wife ordered the same. Hers were kind of crisp; mine were rubbery and inedible. I told the waiter and he said he would let the chef know.
At this price point, I expect simple, fresh food executed flawlessly; that's what a gastropub is all about. That's not what this is ... yet. Maybe it will improve. Right now it's a bar that serves OK food.

Price: Not reflective of the quality. Again, at this price point, I expect better.
Here's how our bill went (you decide whether this works for you or not):
    2 beers (22 oz IPAs)
    2 burgers
2 sides (one of which was inedible)
    1 kid's orange juice ($3.50)
1 mac and cheese and applesauce
    Total (before tip): $58
I'll gladly pay that, but I expect much better food. The waiter was nice enough, so we tipped appropriately.

Verdict: This is one of those places that could go either way. I've been twice, and haven't been super impressed. I'd definitely give them a couple of more chances, and I really want to eat locally, but they are going to have to improve to compete at this price point. The place is a bit pretentious, but all gastropubs are. It's packed, but crowds are no real indication of quality in this town.
I'm pulling for this place, but there's plenty of room for improvement.

Way to many beers to choose from! Excellent! I don't eat a lot of fish, or tacos for that matter, but the fish tacos were stellar! One of the best meals I've had in Spokane, I'm amazed it was fish tacos. Great service as well.

Excellent selection of beers and the food is gourmet. In the summer, the outside patio is a great place to sit and relax and enjoy food and drinks with friends. Perhaps a few more pub food items to the appetizer menu would be a good addition, but other than that, this place is fantastic.

Manito is a great place to go for a fantastic burger and a great selection of beer. We've been to the Tap House quite a few times since they've opened, and they've definitely improved since our first visit, which was characterized by both terrible service and bad food. I'm glad we gave the place a second chance, because we have had much better experiences the subsequent times we've visited.

I truly think Manito Tap House serves the best burger in town. The Grand Burger is, by far, the best I've had in Spokane, and I've eaten a lot of burgers since arriving here. As a native Montanan, I take burgers very seriously, and I have searched this town high and low for a good one. I'm glad I finally have a reliable spot to get a fantastic burger and great beer selection.

The last time I patronized the restaurant I ordered the braised short rib special. It was not good. The meat was tough and the gravy had a cafeteria taste to it. But both my mother and my wife's meals were terrific, and our appetizer was good (the Tap House Mozzarella). I decided not to complain because, well, the other food was good. When the waitress came to take our plates, she asked if I wanted a to-go box. When I said no, she asked if I liked the meal. I told her I didn't. She asked if I would tell her why, because the chef always wants to know when a new menu item isn't going over well with customers. I told her that the meat didn't seem to be braised long enough and the gravy didn't have good flavor. She thanked me and took the entire entree off our check! I was really grateful, and totally didn't expect her to do that.

I think it's a sign of the commitment the owners at Manito have to continually improving their restaurant. I appreciate their approach to customers and to the quality of their service and food. I will definitely continue to eat at Manito and recommend others visit as well.

This place is awesome. It's the Bizzaro of the chain franchises. My wife were in town visiting friends. Our friends recommended Manito, and we loved it. I got a burger, but its no frozen patty here... Great ingredients mean fantastic taste. Even their ketchup is made from scratch!  My wife got the soup, which I stole multiple spoonfuls.  Then she got the fish tacos. Best she's ever had!  And maybe the first time in our marriage she finished her plate.

4 hours on the patio later... We met new friends, ate incredible and unique food, and have a wonderful time.

Now lets talk about the beer... Unbelievable selection. And not the common stuff every college bar has. Their selection was obviously chosen with great care, hitting a BROAD spectrum. And don't worry about selecting something new. They gladly give samples and their staff is incredible with their beer knowledge. But here's the most incredible difference... We ate there on Friday night, and went back on Sunday lunch before our flight, and the beer selections had already changed!!!!   Blew my mind!!  That's what this place is about... Offering different menus and selections every visit.

Thanks Manito Tap House... We'll be back!!

One of the largest (maybe the largest?) tap selection in town. Atmosphere is awesome and it's always packed any night of the week.

I read some of the other reviews and well it is obvious most people just don't get it.  Yes you can get food but their claim to fame is the beer.  Yes the beer changes regularly.  That is why they are called seasonal!  Spokane really has no idea.  Coming from a big city this place fits right in and the people that get it just get it.

My girl friend and I ate there for my birthday and could not have asked for a better day or better food.  She has allergies and we were able to get great food that she could eat.  As usually, and this is place I have been to several times, had the Youngs Double Chocolate Stout and she had a glass of wine.

The waiter was patient and asked the kitchen a lot of questions for us to make certain on the food.  Our water never ran empty, and well I would suggest it to people over and over.

And this is not a place for the book club to meet and have an in depth discussion.  It is a restaurant/bar...emphasis is bar.

This is a great place. It can be a bit noisy and packed, but I think its worth it.
I had a great time here last night with friends. The wait staff was super friendly and easy to joke with. The food was excellent. I had the Grand Beef Burger. It was juicy and delicious. I love the immense selection of beer on tap. I tried the Howling Wolf Weisse Bier. It was great.
Everyone else at my table loved what they ate. It was a really fun night out. We probably sat there for about 3 hours just enjoying it. It got nice and quiet after 8 or so.
I highly recommend going here if you love pubs of all kinds. I can't wait to go back.

Pretty impressive! Great great great food and beer! Please don't be dissuaded from the other reviews! Visit, drink, eat and enjoy! Book group (6) met for lunch at 1 PM. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating.

The noise level was so high, we could not hear each other even in the waiting area. At the table, even worse. When I asked if music could be turned down, the server said he would "try". He could not hear us, either.
It took a good 30 minutes before our food came, no explanation and at that point, the place was not that busy........2 or 3 occupied tables besides those in the bar. One of our group who faced the bar, remarked that if you want beer, service is good.
We ordered veggie burger, regular burger, curry chicken wrap and Mirror Lake salad.
The salad was not good. Duck confit was dry and tasteless. The pears were not ripe, most were hard.  Chicken wrap was good. Veggie burgers OK, to good (2 had that). Regular burger was OK. Huge amount of meat. Could hardly get a mouth around it. Very little in the way of  additions. Yam chips  were not cooked evenly, oil not fresh? The iced tea was very weak, but improved with the 2nd glass.
It was all overpriced and inconsistent.

It is obvious that the place caters to a different crowd. Not a group who want to visit, or even a couple who want to have a good time with each other.
Too bad, the decor is fantastic......love the look. But we went to eat and visit.

Went here the other day with the wife and daughter. I'm glad to see somebody else moved in to the space. I recall "The Pear tree" or some such fogey-ized place being here before.
We were seated immediately (it was around 1:00pm), and it did seem to take a while for a server to get to our table, and return with our drinks. The Humulo Nimbus was fantastic btw.
I had the Chicken Andouille burger with Yam chips. Pretty amazing sandwich. It was a mess to eat, what with all the sauce on it, but it was still SUPER good. The yam chips are great!
I did notice that there were only 2 place settings at our table for four. I would have thought the hostess or our server would have caught it. I walked over and asked a server who was wrapping up  new ones if I could have a napkin and fork. Seems like a little thing, but for some it's the little stuff that makes a big deal.
Our food was actually delivered by a cook I think. I never saw him again either. I thought my food was good and worth the price, so no complaints there.

Staff could be quicker, work a little better as a team. Not bad, just they could work together better (seemed like some were standing around while others were really hustling). Nice place, I like it a lot.

We have been here twice.  The first time was about 2 weeks after opening and it was a little rough, but you could see there was a real glimmer of something that could be special.  I will not forget the dish that was clams and corn bread?  Corn bread?  For dipping?  It didn't work out well.  But still... we thought we would come back.

So, we went back a few weeks ago and I had a burger - it was great.  So were the yam chips and the side of dip I got to go with them.  The burger was just right, not over seasoned and the toppings went very well.

Went back again about a week ago and had the duck confit salad.  Really good.  And I don't like duck.  At all.  But, this salad is very good.

Menu is a little small, place is pretty busy, so waiting seems to be the norm.  Service was pretty good.  Definitely on the list of places we will visit again.

They beer selection was great, and I love the location and decor but the food leaves something major to be desired. Plus the wait time was ridiculous. Absolutely too expensive and jeez, try too hard much? Some of the food doesn't even make sense and even when it does it's not great. We had the weird bruschetta/mozzarella things and the spinach dip was described as something you would get in a package and heat up at home made by a place like Applebees yuck! And for that price, no thanks. Ohh and my other big pet-peeve, how can you bee a gastropub with screaming children? Just once in Spokane I would love to go to a bar with tasty food and NO KIDS! I wanted to like this place SO bad as the hubby and I have been hoping to find a place that is reliably great food and beer with reasonable prices  like the places we used to frequent in Bellingham.  This was sadly not it, won't be going back.

yikes, guys. It's hard to write this review, because I've experienced so much better from you, so know that I'm writing this in love.

    That said...WTF?!

My party and I waited for an hour and half. HOUR AND A HALF! And we only did that because we know how awesome you are, but seriously?! That's not acceptable, and if that's going to be the norm, start taking reservations, because we would have made them. We stood in your entry way for 30 of those minutes as the sole patrons waiting to be seated. If you can't turn over tables, you need to start taking reservations.

    Our graduation celebration = disappointing.

So, you'd think, on a Thursday night, after waiting for that long, that our server would have made his way over tute de suite, but that was not so. We waited over 5 minutes at our table before anyone ever came to take our drink order, or see if we were ready. And... after so much time, sitting in the waiting area, we were all pretty ready...

Upon our server actually making it to our table, he was unversed in the beers I was inquiring about.. and hey, that's kind of understandable, since there are so many on tap. But, your response to me should not be "yeah, I don't know the difference, but the one I tried, I didn't like it". Ok, YOU didn't like it, and that's fair enough, but if you can't even tell me about the beers, what are you doing at a beer bar? The least you could have done was say "you know, I don't know, but let me ask the bartender. I haven't tried them yet, so let me find out what they know" and then give me a real answer.

Because my server could not give me a real answer, I asked the bartender directly and got the beer I wanted. And what a beer it was! And that's where this review turns into something positive. My bartender was friendly and informative, he poured me a generous pour, and made me remember what I like about this place. I took it back to my table to join the rest of the party, and enjoyed my beet salad and cup of soup. The food here is always on pointe, and in general worth waiting for.

After my party left, I sat down at the bar, and Luke took over the last part of my stay. Unsure of what I wanted, he gave me some good recommendations for my last beer. Remembering me from prior visits, and making suggestions based on my previous orders, he offered me samples of a couple different beers, which got me to drink something I never would have picked for myself.

I write this update in hopes that my critique gets noticed and something changes. If this is going to become what I have to expect from the Tap House, I'll save my money and go other places for dinner, and visit here on nights when no one else seems to. I would hate to see this place turn into every other that experiences a little bit of success and forgets what "service" means.

    * Good beer selection - something like 50 taps. Lots of variety, but basically an entire page devoted to IPAs. The menu gives a description of each, some more accurate than others. Prices are quite reasonable, and you can even do 5 beer tasting flights for $5. With each taste = 2.5 ounces, this because a great & affordable way to try lots of different things.

They seem to go through things & switch out taps pretty quickly - our menu was dated, with some beers labeled "soon" (meaning it was on deck to be tapped when something else ran out), and some things crossed out (meaning they were gone). The only trouble with this is that they seem to have trouble keeping the menus up-to-date. Things which were not crossed out were gone, and things still listed as 'soon' were available. And some things which were listed as 'soon' which we were told were not yet available, when accidentally ordered, did actually show up. Our server said she would fetch us the "master list" which was supposedly up-to-the-minute accurate. It turned out to be only slightly more accurate than our original menu.

Not that this was a huge deal. It just makes ordering a little trickier & take longer because the server may have to go back & forth to the bar to check if something actually is or is not available.

    * Cool atmosphere. Very pub-like & cozy, with dark wood & dim lighting. The only trouble was the noise level - the place wasn't even that crowded when we were there and it was VERY loud.

    * Great service. No complaints there.

    * Mediocre, over-priced food. We were hungry enough to share a few appetizers, and though they were tasty, they were VERY small and would need to have been out-of-this-world fantastic to be worth what they cost. Stuffed jalepenos for $8 turned out to be exactly two peppers, cut in half. Artichoke crab dip for $9 was small and mostly artichoke. So I don't think I would order food there again.

But still a pretty good beer spot! Nice to know it's there.

This is a new place on the south hill of Spokane, located at Grand and 29th, in a tucked away location.  It has a large list of ever changing beers, that seem to change from day to day. Needless to say, with that many beers, this is the place for me.  However, they do have an interesting menu, and I find myself trying something new each time I go there.  The servers are very personable, and even with the large crowds during the opening weeks, they managed to keep up with the rush.

It is not a sports bar, although they do have two TV's over the bar, so you can catch a game if you are interested.  Prices are reasonable, and they do have a happy hour.

The only complaint I have is I stopped by on a Tuesday, and they were closed. My bad - I should have checked their hours.

It does have a nice urban feel to it, and the customers and staff are all friendly and easy going.  All in all, a great addition to the south hill.  I'm slowly working my way through their 50+ beers - a dirty job but someone has to do it!!

Honestly, I was worried about going here after reading some reviews, but we had a great time. Yes, we waited about 20 minutes for a table on a Wednesday night. But with a beer in hand, who cares? I thought their tap selection was great (I'm from Craft City, after all), and their menu was varied enough to please everyone in our party.

I had the Grand Burger with bacon and blue cheese, and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. My one suggestion is to change up the sides, however. I was really excited to try the pickled veggies, but when I received one limp asparagus spear and two dill pickles, I was really disappointed. The side salad also looked limp and unappealing. My input? Don't try to be different, just add fries to your offerings and make everyone happy (especially if they're truffle fries ;).

Service was friendly and attentive, and the waitstaff knew a ton about both the food and beer menus (always a huge plus in my book). Overall, a really fun place to grab a drink or a bite with friends.

Been to MTH one more time since then and had another good experience.

Warning, if you get the Carne Advoado (sp?) it's REALLY spicy.  The flavor was amazing, but I'm a little bit of a light weight when it comes to spice, so this was pretty hot for me.

Manito Tap House is truly a gastropub - one who serves high-end beer and food.  The quality of their pours and food is excellent.  It has a great atmosphere that is unique and well thought out.  It's easy to spend several hours with friends and not grow tired of the space.  With more than 50 beers on tap an inspired menu (try the Yam chips with the dipping sauce - AMAZING).  All the food is locally sourced and made from scratch at the location.

Add this to your list - it will be your favorite haunt in no time at all.
