It was ok. Not the best but if you don't want to cook it's the place to go. You can tell alot of regulars have been going there for years and it is almost habitual to go there.

I want to only give it a 3 based on the fact that I maybe was spoiled by Sam's Ferndale Grill.

The thing is, I rolled into town about midnight, went to a gas-station and asked the lady, "Where can I get good breakfast around here?"

She mentioned two places.  The Cottage Restaurant and Mary J's.  I asked which one she would pick in a fight...

"Mary J's" she said enthusiastically.  She said, "Get yourself that country breakfast."

So I'm excited.  I'm picturing AWESOME lavish Southern breakfast of Glory!  You know, the kind you hear about from that special someone in your life that told you about one; "Yea, It was a hole in a wall but they served this huge breakfast with all the fixins.  There was all this amazing food piled up all over the table and it was home cookin!  IT was the best breakfast ever!"

So I get to this place...

    Ahem.

The menu is plain-jane.  That's fine!  Appearances can be deceiving.  I don't see anything called a "Country Breakfast."  I see breakfast special.

So I figure maybe I have to ask for it, "I'll have the um... Breakfast thing."

"...Breakfast special?" says the unenthusiastic lady behind the counter.

    I was getting worried.

So I ordered.  Eggs over easy, sausage and wheat toast.

I got - Eggs over easy, sausage and wheat toast.

The sausage was dry and they took it out of a warmer where it had been sitting since they opened, but to their credit it was only 7am. Sure it was 2 little dry sausage patties but that's besides the point.

The food was ok, but honestly I could have done BETTER at home by myself and if I go out to eat I want the food made for me to be better than I can do.   That's the point.

I looked on my way out and saw the Ever Corporate "Cracker Barrel" sign down the road and actually felt disappointed that I didn't go there.

I think this is the local place to get breakfast when you're too lazy to make your own food at home.  I do NOT think this should be the place to go if you're looking for that fantastic southern breakfast you've heard so much about.

    PS - It's my birthday.
