After a sensation birthday filled with boating, swimming, eating, drinking, and bar-hopping, we decided to end the night at Mason Street Pub for shots and pizza. I don't want to hate on this place because I can see that the locals really enjoy it, but my God, I felt like I walked into an alternate universe. Â A guy disrobing across the bar while talking to no one in particular, a girl crying while trying to plead with her boyfriend about who-knows-what, a guy moonwalking with no shoes on, a lit Christmas tree in the corner, and several dogs running around outside. This is either going to be really good or really bad! Â
Karaoke was in full effect when we arrived. Â I have to send a shout-out to the guy who sang Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe". Â He was talking the words rather than singing them. I was laughing so hard that I was literally crying. Â It was a celebration so shots were in order, but they do not have Petron (insert "needle scratching off the record" sound). Cuervo will have to do. The pizza was definitely of the frozen variety and not very good, but we were all three sheets to the wind at that point so anything would have tasted passable.
If you're a local Lake Hopatcong person, then I think you might like this place. Total dive bar with all the fixens of a good time with people you know. Â It was a very entertaining way to end the night. Bottoms up!
I love this dive bar on the lake. It's such a unique spot, and always a great time all the way til 3am. Mason doesn't really start to get busy until after midnight usually, because it's everybody's last stop since it has later hours than other bars.
Not sure what people are talking about with the food. The menu isn't huge but every meal I've had here has been served promptly, hot, and very good. The soup is surprisingly excellent for a dive bar, and the pork wings aren't to be missed. The bartender Thomas is an awesome guy and if you happen to come in on a Thursday (Karaoke Night) you'll find out he's not a half bad singer either! :-)
Not only is the food good, but this is the only place I know of in the area that serves until 11 every night, even Sundays. These hours are a real boon for a late night eater like me. Don't miss Mason, it's the place to be in Sparta/Jefferson/Hopatcong, particularly after 1am!
DON 'T go here! Â Unless you want the worst service and food in the area. Â After drinks and appetizers in the tent covered parking lot, with dogs running all around, our waitress asked if there was anything else we would like. Â Our reply was, the dinner we had ordered! Â An hour later the worst bar food we had ever been served came out. Â Save your money go to McDonald s
