In a nutshell: nothing to write home about.  Overpriced for the value, with the meat very tough.  Everything doused in garlic to the point of presenting me with intestinal discomfort, and I REALLY like garlic.  I guess people come for the ambiance and the booze, so, have your drinks here and then go to dinner elsewhere.

So I decided to try this place on Saturday afternoon for cocktails and lunch/early dinner.  We walked in and were greeted and decided to sit one of the tables in the bar area.  We finally after about 5 minutes were greeted by our waitress who was pretty mediocre in her service.  She gave us menus and asked us if we wanted to start with any drinks, I asked her if she has tried any of the ones I was interested in and she replied "I usually drink things just straight up on the rocks" - as a waitress (which I was one) you don't answer questions like that.  How is that trying to sell your items? Anyway - we ordered the fried pickles since it came with a wasabi cream on the side (that's what sold us) - when they came out the fried pickles didn't even look fried, they looked like they had a thin coat of glass on them and the wasabi cream tasted like sour cream..there was no hint of wasabi.  Next for entrees, I got the Nori Ahi Tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes and some sort of "Asian slaw" on top.  First things first, the ahi tuna should NEVER taste like fish. And mine did.  It was somewhat edible after I peeled a black layer off the sides which I assumed was the skin.  The wasabi potatoes were okay, nothing to rave about and the slaw for me just didn't connect, it was missing some sesame oil or something to tie the "Asian theme".  My boyfriend got the Skyscraper sandwich.  The bread was stale and the pulled pork was eh.  The one you get from Costo tastes much better in my opinion. Once the bill came we paid and for some reason another waitress came to take the bill and when I looked for our waitress she was in the back making up silverware.  The place was empty.  I don't like when other waitresses tend to a table when there is no need for it.  All  in all the food was nothing I would go back and try again and the service was not that fantastic either.  Next time I'd rather eat at the Jefferson Diner next door.

The food was great, beer selection was great, and the atmosphere was amazing! This restaurant in no way resembles its neighbor, the Jefferson Diner. The J-Towne Tavern makes you feel like you're in an authentic English Pub! The service wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. One of the cleanest, nicest bathrooms I've ever seen in a restaurant too!
