Drove into town looking for a sandwich shop, but didn't find one... Wasn't in the mood for a burger or Mexican food, so this looked to be the best pick.
Enjoyed the atmosphere and the menus had a variety of sandwiches. Service was good and I appreciated getting my sandwich made to order to fit my food plan... Some places get bent when you ask for substitutes, they graciously accommodated my request.
Very disappointed. We went there for a birthday party of a friend. The food was "ok" (wings, calamari, Ice tea) there was about 15-20 of us. When taking our order, they decided to put all of us on the same tab and would NOT divide it up for us when time to pay. The worst part was they tried to charge everyone who had a drink $15 for a double shot! Â WTF is that about? Good thing we called them out on it and only paid for singles! Would not show us an itemized list of what we got!
The bartender also would not even give my wife a lime for her drink until she verified with the waitress that she had the drink she said she had! again.....WTF is that about?
Sports bar? NOT! a dark hole with a few TV's showing the game.....I think so!
Will never be back to this place again! Too many other places to go that care about the way they take care of their customers.
Trust me.......check your bill BEFORE you pay it!!
Came here expecting an average meal, something similar to Denny's, and that's pretty much what we got.
I got the Golden Gate Burger, my husband got the McHenry's club with sweet potato fries & my son got the kids Mac & cheese. We all felt that they were average dishes. The only issues we had were that I asked for a medium well burger that came medium rare (I'm fine with rare, just prefer well burgers) and the bread on my husbands sandwich was a little over toasted. My burger was also very greasy, more than I expected - but eh, not really surprised about the grease factor.
The ambience is cool. Small town sports bar feel. There is a projector screen on each wall displaying different sports channels.
The service was not the greatest. The waitress was nice but took a while to get everything together. It took roughly 30 minutes for the kids meals to come out and then we got our meals. I know we had a larger party (10 people total) but the restaurant was pretty slow and there were only two other tables being waited on. We were not given silverware and had to ask for it. She also did not come back to see if we needed anything and we had to flag her down to ask for refills. I don't feel like this was 100% her fault, it just seems like a lack of training. Perhaps a reflection of how the owner does business because all the waitresses looked like they were on the same page with the service. Upping the service standards could really help this place.
So two stars since the food was average and the service was subpar. Hopefully they raise their standards. Not sure if they can afford not to given the history of that location.
Came in Saturday evening after a baseball tournament in Modesto, just looking for a place to sit down. Â This place was pretty quiet for a Saturday around 7 PM. Â This is really more of a sports bar, but no problem with that. Â Lots of big screens and friendly service. Â Had the fried green bean appetizer. Â Pretty tasty indeed. Â My wife's Caesar salad was soaked in dressing. Â Reuben sandwich was pretty good - not over the top good, but reasonable. Â Fries were amazing - very crispy but not overcooked.
Review Source:I've come in twice now and have been so pleased with food that actually tastes home made with lots of flavor and just a special touch that sets it apart from the corporate chain restaurants here in town. Â Sad to see Tracy doesn't promote small privately owned eating establishments that can only foster an interest in the downtown revenue and patronage. Â With that said, the service is very kind and attentive each time I have come in. Â I highly recommend the Pot Roast and Santa Cruz sandwiches. Â Very tasty and filling. Â Good coffee, though the ambiance is a bit tacky since it doubles as a sports bar then I get it. Â I would have gladly given this place 5 stars, but the owner/manager on duty is not very cordial, and had she taken the time to stop by my table and asked of my experience, it would have made it a total 5 star experience, but she was preoccupied with at the time I visited with other things, even though the restaurant was quiet. Â Not very personable. Appreciate your
clientele.
This place has changed different names more than i can think. Noticed there was a McHenrys in Modesto, so i thought id try it where i live in Tracy. I have lived here in Tracy for 7 years. first time going to McHenrys is the last time I'm going there.
I ordered the french toast. when arrived (far too long of a wait when i was the only group in there) i started to cut up my food. noticed there was the plastic wrapper that the food came with from when it was frozen still attached to my food. called the waitress and she said I'm sorry, and took the piece of french toast that had the plastic. was left eating the rest of the food, uncomfortable the whole time. received 3 dollars off my meal. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. not like I'm one of those customers who want everything free, but that meal should have been comped. never again.
Well I'm impressed, I didn't expect to even walk past viewing the menu at this place. We had a GREAT breakfast! I had the healthy egg white omelette that was on the menu w/sliced tomato & feta on the side. It was huge like I make at home! Hubby liked his big skillet scramble. Service was great even on a busy Mother's Day! Loved the big screens too. Lookin forward to comin back! : D
Review Source:Wasn't very busy on a Friday night but still took forever to get water to us at the beginning. As far as the food goes the pasta and shrimp were overcooked as well as the ribs. For $40 it wasn't worth the price at all for the service or the quality of the food. This restaurant needs Chief Ramsey badly! The food tasted like it was days old. Nasty!
Review Source:Another place that will struggle to make it in this location. Like most I was unsure about trying but decided to give something new a try with a friend. While the waitress was very nice the service was very slow. The place was dead so there was no reason for us to have waited so long. The cocktails were good.. The Food was nothing special. We got an order of boneless wings and a sandwich.. I wouldn't order the wings again. The place should be trying a little harder since most business' have failed at that location in the past. However, the big screen TV's were nice for the sports fans. This isn't a place i'll be stopping at again.
Review Source:We have been there for breakfast 5 times and every time has been great, so good that we have taken our relatives from Idaho, and Nevada city. My wife usually has the cinn. roll french toast I have tried a different items. We decided today to their dinner, All I can say is WOW, I tried the liver and onion w/ massed taters, Wife had a Burger with mushroom-onion ring-bacon-swiss and bell pepper our neighbors had a french dip and the ribs -- Great Stuff. All I can say is the only thing better than the food is the staff all have been great, and today it was Danyelle yes she said spelled with a Y. Everyone should try this place at least once. Â Just to let you know I am very hard to please and there are people that can attest to this in the food world.
Review Source:Came into eat this past Saturday and I'm going to have to say that it was one of the best experiences I've ever had at a restraunt . As soon as I wakled in the hostess I think her name was celina greeted me with a nice big smile and asked if I wanted a booth or a table, she sat me in a nice comfortable booth then proceeded to ask if I wanted anything to drink. I then asked about the breakfast special, that's what I ended up ordering and it was delicious I wanted to order another one . The staff at mchenrys are very friendly people and I would recommend this restraunt to everyone. And it is a very nice place to bring your family, I know I will be back with mine .
Review Source:Bad experience.
We went in a few days back. I ordered a Oreo cookie shake. The waitress comes, and spills it on the table, barely even apologizing. She was, however, kind enough to bring some napkins so that I could clean it up myself.
We waited for almost 10 minutes to place our order. (The place was DEAD, by the way.) We were the ONLY table at the time of our order. Food eventually comes, and it was great (props to the chef), but we waited THIRTY (30) minutes for a to-go box, and then our check. I seriously think we could've walked out and nobody would've noticed. My wife ended up just wrapping her sandwich in a napkin.
The waitress comes back and gives a half ass apology about how she had a "rowdy bar" (yeah, all 3 of them) and that's why she ignored us, and also other people had started coming in complaining about the wait. She offered us a discount ($4 off the tab) I was going to tip her a penny, but that would've been a waste of a cent.
I don't think I will come back  here again for quite some time. I'm ashamed too because I like this place, and was really selling it big time to my wife, and got made a fool of. Not cool.
in response to Brian S and his review. I happened to be there when he was. My food was great. If i had ordered something and it wasn't good I wouldn't have eaten three of the four items on my plate and then said it was bad. As for only eating it out of hunger? seriouly and then expecting a free meal? you ended up getting your drinks free too? The manager was doing her job and I didn't detect any attitude except for what was coming from you and your companion. Everyone needs to watch out for this guy he's just looking for freebies.
Review Source:McHenry's is a solid 2.5 stars. Their appetizers are clearly all straight from the freezer (i.e., skip 'em). Their breakfasts are very good- I've tried 3 different items, including the veggie benedict with correctly poached eggs. The cheeseburgers are thick & juicy and served piping hot.
Service is excellent. Waitstaff is very nice and helpful and quick on the beverage refills.
TVs need a little work. I went 1 night during the Stanley Cup playoffs & they were not able to get that channel (???). I have the cheapest cable package besides basic at my apartment & I could get the game at home.
I want this place to do well.
Tracy (I) needs a good little non-corporate driven place to have a beer, burger, and watch a game.
I was disappointed with the service and quality of food.
The server had little to no knowledge of the beer menu. Â I walked myself to the bar to make my selection.
Most of the products on my plate came from the freezer (For example: The breaded chicken breast).
The salad dressings came from a bottle.
I don't understand why someone would pour their heart and soul into opening a business and provide customers with an average product.
The hours of operation are also odd for a "sports bar" as they close at 10pm. Â West coast games routinely end at 10:30pm. Â
This well could be in their use permit as the previous location had many (Tracy PD) service calls.
At this point, it would be hard to return.
Can Helms re-open?
Word to the wise.....and those who enjoy a good dinner. Stay away from McHenry's Sports Bar & Grill in Tracy. 1. If I wanted potato skins out of the freezer, I could have bought them from the store for much cheaper and not overcooked them. 2. It's rather hard to screw up a pasta dish, but when the chicken has a flavor you cannot recognize and the shrimp are far from tender, neither cooked very well...that's talent. 3. When the manager first says they will give us $10 off the bill.....then instead comp the dinners but charge us for the potato skins because we ate most of them out of hunger, not out of enjoyment....then take my $10 gift certificate and NOT take it off the tab - and NOT give it back saying we could not use it because they already did so much for us.....and to have nothing but attitude on top of it....all I can say is I am glad we walked out of there not paying for a single thing....as I was so irritated, I made the manager call the owner to handle the situation. Seriously....I don't like making a scene and being a *customer* (Laura Williams and Kevin M. Wang will appreciate the inside humor here) - when you have such a crappy experience that can't even TRY to enjoy what you can out of a meal....it's just not worth it. McHenry's.....there's a reason why your restaurant is empty....
Review Source:Dear Restaurant Owners and Managers...seriously 3 businesses before you failed. In 2012 how could you possibly think not having a  "to go Menu" or an "online menu available even resemble good management. Your missing out!!! guess you mught think of that when your closing like the rest of places here!! and such a simple remedey! This get 1 star for ultimate management stupidity!
Review Source:I did not enjoy this restaurant at all. Â We went there for breakfast on Saturday morning. Â It was dark and Loud rock music was played the whole time we were there. Â I asked if this was typical music for breakfast time and the waitress replyed "yes and they like to keep the blinds drawn so it's dark as well".
Just made me feel uptight and I don't even drink coffee! Â So no we won't be back. Â Not my kind of breadkfast place.
We go every Sunday and Casey is our waitress. We went in last week to find the air condition was broken. Felt bad for the poor staff but was reassured it would be fixed. Went in yesterday (Father's Day) to find its still broken! Not acceptable for the clients but more importantly for those staff members who slave over us and are forced to work in those conditions. We left and took our business to Famous Dave. I was sitting in an air conditioned building feeling bad for the McHenerys staff eating food that wasn't McHenrys!. We love it there but refuse to let them wait on us in that heat. It's a form of cruelty and I can't do it. Hope they get it together soon because the heats not going anywhere! We won't go back to McHenrys until it's fixed. Just not right for the hard working staff there.
Review Source:We went to McHenry's last night for dinner, after having it recommended to us by three people who had already gone. As a lot of other reviewers had mentioned, we were very leery of another restaurant on this site because the last two were so bad.
We ordered two sandwiches - the Pot Roast Melt and the Ultimate Grilled Bacon and Cheese. Â
The Pot Roast Melt was amazing. The meat was tender and flavorful, the grilled onions added a touch of sweet and the horseradish sauce added a touch of heat. The bread was grilled and not greasy at all. The accompanying potato salad had big chunks of new potato in it that were tender; he flavor was good and they do not make it 'soupy' with mayo - Â a plus.
The Ultimate Grilled Bacon and Cheese was good, but did not match the menu description. The menu said it was made with Jack and Cheddar cheeses, but mine came with only cheddar. But the thick bacon was cooked to perfection - chewy but not crunchy, fully cooked and not limp or overly greasy. Again, the bread was grilled without an over-abundance of fat. The french fries (not sweet potato) were good - big, chunky steak fries.
Service was amazing. Casey attended our every need, without being ever-present. When I mentioned to her the missing Jack cheese, she immediately let the kitchen know and even came back to give me their apology for the error and their positive feedback to my comment.
We saw many other menu items we would like to try and may even go back for breakfast tomorrow morning.
My boyfriend and I love getting breakfast on the weekends. Â We've tried almost every place in Tracy and were wary of visiting McHenry's at first. Â This location has been turned over so many times - we were ready to be disappointed. Â
Before we decided to give it a try, we looked up McHenry's on Yelp and it had been given good reviews - so we were optimistic. Â We've read good reviews online before only to be disappointed with the final product.
So - this post is actually after our 2nd trip to McHenry's. Â We went for the first time a few weeks ago and had such a good experience that it was a no brainer where to go for breakfast today.
Good Stuff: Â Fast and friendly service. The food came out before we even got through the first cup of coffee. Clean surroundings. Â Decent prices and great portions (doggie bag went home twice now). Â Tasty foods! Â Fluffy huge biscuits (and I mean as big as a man's closed fist), buttery light and fluffy pancakes (better than local chains), savory bacon (thick cut) and sausage and white gravy that appears to be homemade versus a powdered mix. Â Despite being a sports bar atmosphere, the TV's weren't turned up too loud so that you can't have a conversation. Both times that we went there were families eating. Â The daytime atmosphere is suitable for all ages.
Bad Stuff: Â The atmosphere is still a sports bar - but if you're trying to survive in this economy, you need to be able to shift gears after hours and maximize your income.
Good/Bad: Â Every wall of the place does have a GIANT screen showing a variety of sporting events. Â This can be a plus and a minus. Â If you're expecting to have a nice quiet conversation and not be distracted - you'll be disappointed. Â If you'd like to keep up on the game and eat with your friends/family - all good. Â
We haven't gone for non-breakfast foods yet, but if we do - we'll yelp again. Â I'd definitely go there during a big sports event and see how they handle a crowd.
This place has changed names a few times so i was kinda eeh!! Well we try'd it out this weekend, and it was GREAT!!! BIG portions we had the fish and chips and cobb salad, the fish was just a bit batterie but still good!! cobb salad was great,so we went back for breakfast the next morning it was 4 star with great service!! The big tv screens are nice, just need more Oakland A'S stuff in their!! it all Gaints (Boo) We will go back and try the beer next. But over all i think they got it right this time.
Review Source:Hadn't realized that our first visit was part of their "soft opening" -- the wait staff was maybe a step behind full speed, but we had no idea they were still learning their way around!
The food? Fantastic! Big, juicy steaks, massive sandwiches, excellent appetizers and fresh drinks. A big plus: Dust Bowl Hops of Wrath beer on tap -- what a great surprise!
The negative? You're a sports bar. Two big screens had Boston Marathon reruns on -- from 2010! No baseball. No hockey. No ESPN. One NBA game. Two TVs with local news. There may have been a NASCAR race on, but it was behind me.
I asked for an NHL game and -- maybe five minutes later -- I was rewarded with a game ... on the smallest screen in the joint. And that screen was behind me.
You want five stars, McHenry's? Have somebody on staff (a guy, maybe) who knows sports, and knows what channel ESPN is on, and NBC Sports Channel, and CSN Bay Area, and what channels the A's and Giants and Warriors and Sharks are on.
But I'll still go back for the food and the beer.
I ate lunch here last week and had the French dip. It was just ok. The sweet potato fries were good though. I had breakfast today and ordered the spinach scramble. It came on the side of the potatoes instead of over them but it was good. Not great. Then finally, we went back for dinner. The waitress told me they had a salmon special. When I asked how it was prepared, she had no idea. She went to find out, came back and told me it was grilled, served with mashed potatoes and verggies. I am trying to healthy so I ordered it. When it came, it was on top of some sort of hollandaise type of sauce with capers and sauce on the top. I was kind of shocked because it was not what I was expecting at all. I told her it was fine and tried it not expecting to eat more than 2 or 3 bites. IT WAS DELICIOUS!. I ate almost all of it, including all the fattening sauce. My issue was it was not as described but I gotta tell you, it was fantastic. My hubby ate fried chicken and it was really good too.
The girls are nice who work here and service was good. I would come back.
We tried McHenry's for the 1st time and it is awesome!!!  We started off with the Green Bean Appetizer and OMG they were delish! For my Dinner, I ordered the Black Angus Cheese Burger  w/Sweet Potato Fries, and it is the Best Burger in town!!! The Classic Club Sandwich was awesome that my husband ordered and was huge!!! 0:D
You must try the Deep Fried Green bean Appetizer and Sweet Potato Fries!  The fried green beans were better than PF Chang's and you get a huge plate full with the dipping sauce!
Chef Yriel prepared our selections and our waitress Danyel was right on top of our order as well as very friendly! Super Five star service as well as Five Star Food! We will definitely  be back! They serve large portions, Great Food, and with a smile!
I don't have to drive out to Pleasanton,CA to get a GREAT cheeseburger anymore! WooHoo!!!!
Our Favorite new place in Tracy!!!! Cannot wait to try their breakfast...and they serve it all day long!!! 0:D
This place is a TRUE 5 Star Find!
Sincerely,
Al & Pamela Goulart
Positives: big portions, fast and friendly service
Negatives: advertised as a sports bar with 4 100" projector screens , 1 on each wall. An although the NHL playoff hockey , the A's, the Giants and warriors were playing they opted to show local Chanel 3 news, the speed channel on 2 screens  an the celtics on the 4th screen. Why a d what would possess them you ask? Well the answer is easy, there were 5 young girls working there. Bartender, greeter and server. Combined in there lives probably have watched 1 inning of baseball do they could give a crap less what was on. I decided to ask them to put it on the hockey game....they were completely confused like 2 monkeys trying to hump a football. They did not even know what the "HD" stood for in the program guide. I gave up. There were more requests for sports programming as more people starte coming in. Customers even wondered if they were at a sports bar and grill....so if you wanna watch the local news on a big screen this is your place....not mine, I specifically came here to watch Matt Cain pitch against the phillies , not the traffic report.
If you like ribs get the st.Louis ribs. A whole slab for 12.00. Â Waaay too much food. The kids get the cheeseburger kids meal they never finish it,Tasty meat. Club sandwich and burgers are good too. Been here 3 times in a week. Atmosphere is good if you like sports bars. 4 projectors with sports on. Will be back for sure.
