Loved it! I like most McMenamins locations and this one was no exception. This old train station is charming and awesome. As we sat in our booth enjoying McMenamins brews, I was fascinated by the eclectic arrangement of light fixtures on the ceiling. This place is well lit and open which only adds to the charm. The staff was amazing and the food was fantastic. Their Bacon Poppin' Daddy Sandwich was invented by one of their own and it was fantastic. Though I like trying new places, next time I'm in Roseburg, I don't think I would want to eat anywhere else. I'm sold to Roseburg Station Pub & Brewery.
Review Source:This restaurant used to have the absolutely best home made fries. They changed the way they make them somewhere along the line which we discoverd last October on our way home from a stamp show. The change in the recipe for making the fries was done for consistency in all their restaurants but was a mistake in my opinion.
This former Southern Pacific train station is worth the vist just to see the builidng but now that the fries are just like so many of the other average to bad ones out there we won't eat here anymore.
Meh...as usual for this company, it is very middling. Their beer is average, on the side of pedestrian. Their food is also very average. Service, average. I absolutely LOVE the way this company uses and preserves old historic structures. However, that doesn't really make up for its lackluster experience.
Review Source:This place sucks. Â The drinks are watered down and the glasses are filled to the brim with ice, yielding about 2 oz for each $10 drink. Â The food tasted like it was heated in the microwave and had very little taste.
My wife and I both had the salmon. Â It tasted old and very fishy, not like it usually does. Â The highlight of the meal was the mashed potatoes. Â Now what does that tell you?
I recommend avoiding this place.
Simply put, a really great place! The staff is friendly and keep the atmosphere up-beat. We've been here several times and have always had great service.
The menu isn't very diverse, however everything I've ever had is flavorful and has some unique twist to it. And the beers? Order the sampler ! You'll be glad you did.
Cute place, good comfort food and great beer! Â We came in for dinner last week while staying in Roseburg for the night on a road trip - we hit a terrible storm while driving through the Shasta's on the way up, and the stress of that drive left me famished. Â So we were happy to find a place that had good, hot food and delicious Oregon beer to unwind. Â Anyhoo, the spinach and artichoke dip was YUM-mee, and the brewer's salad and baked mac 'n cheese both totally hit the spot too. Â We rounded everything off with a crazy delicious berry pie and then had to roll ourselves out of there with our bellies full and satisfied.
Review Source:First of all~ we Love the staff...good people who care about their regulars! Â
Big Problem with the new menu....Huge!! Â First they have consolidated down to pretty much being a burger joint...where are the vegetarian and fish options? Â What The Heck...No Caesar Salads? Â No Wraps? Â No Salmon...at all? Â And what happened to the chicken enchiladas...is nothing sacred? Â First went the burrito then quesadillas now this?!?!?
Against our better judgement we ordered fish and chips and they were sooooo BAD! Â Double extra crispy~read GREASY and RAW in the center, not to mention the fish was a thin replica of something barely sea worthy....all this for $12.50= Crazy! Â The companion nausea that later occurred cured me and my pally of eating F&C again....EVER!
Please reconsider your menu....Caesar Salmon Salad was the best item on the menu and we neeed it back! Â Pretty Please??
This was my first trip to a McMenamins brewery. I have always heard great things about how they transform historic buildings such as school houses, train stations or hotels into a modern micro brewery with great appreciation for the past. I was delighted to find this location after making a pit stop for a night in the cozy town of Roseburg (on our way to Portland).
Housed in what was once the city's bustling Southern Pacific train depot, McMenamins Roseburg Station Pub & Brewery is somewhat of a museum of the rich rail history of the city. I was amazed at the historic pictures, news articles, relics and such inside. Â They had a large venue with options for a private room if needed. I was most intrigued by the array of lighting fixtures and ceiling fans hanging from the ceiling.
We sat outside because we we traveling with our dog, which they allow on their front patio. Service was extremely fast, friendly and efficient.
The beers were very good... Bursting with fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients! My favorite was the Hammerhead, a classic Northwest pale ale (cascade hops). Â This is McMenamins' top selling beer and has a huge local following.
The food was great. They had several healthy choices, like hummus. I always appreciate a microbrewery that can deliver you a great burger and fries, or a grilled chicken, hummus and fresh salad... Depends on your mood, right?!
If this is their "brand," then I am excited to add and eventually conquer their remaining breweries on the brew bucket list someday!
As a native Portlander, I have experienced my share of McMenamins, and it is usually a good, basic choice. So, we decided to stop into the Roseburg station for lunch on our way back down to the bay area.
The place looked very promising. Clean and cute, and full of charm. First, I must note that my two star review is mostly due to the fact that the place seemed way understaffed, and not because of the performance of our waitress.
It took a bit too long to get our order in, and when we did, we ordered a couple of coffees since we were a little road weary. It took awhile for our coffees to come out, and when they did, mine had a little bug floating in it. Oh well.
It took a LONG time for our food to come out. I was feeling indulgent, so I had ordered the fish n'chips. BIG MISTAKE. It was the greasiest fish n'chips I have EVER experienced, and not to mention a bit burnt. My bf's pulled pork sandwich was MUCH tastier, except for the fact that they allowed a bunch of the juice from the coleslaw to soak into the bottom bun.
Honestly, the place isn't too bad for road food, just make sure to avoid the fish n'chips, and don't come too hungry because the food will take awhile.
This was my first time here and I will definitely be back. The atmosphere is great and has an old time pub feel to it. The servers are great and friendly. I got the pita and hummus for an appetizer and it was great. For my meal I just had the chicken caesar salad, it isn't on the menu but if you ask for it they will make it for you. I recommend that you give it a try because it is a great place.
Review Source:This was half way back from California to Seattle, I was thinking "Man I'm hungry, but I really don't want fast food." I was also traveling with my puppy and didn't want to lock her up. Then I remembered Roseburg had this McMenamins in the old train station.... SCORE! I was so happy.
I asked if I could hang out at a table in front. I had an Ahi burger and a great beer while sitting with my pup. They were so cool about the dog thing...I hope McMenamins takes over the whole world....Everything they touch they make better, and I am a fan for life....
First time in Roseburg and we decided to try this place out. It is an old train station depot and the decor is pretty nice.
We all enjoyed our dinners and the fries tasted homemade. My boys loved the tater tots and there seemed to be something for everyone.
The service was a little slow and we were there on a very uncrowded Tuesday night.
As trippy and fascinating as the decor was in this place -- tons of old lamps, a huge stove, dark wooden seats, awesome artwork -- the food wasn't anything to write home about. I had the Portland Dip sandwich, which was basically meat and cheese on bread with a dipping "au jus." The lack of vegetables was disheartening. And my friend had the vegetarian pasta dish, which she said she could make herself. Ah, well. At least the scenery and friendly staff helped to break up our long drive to Portland.
Review Source:For those unfamiliar with McMenamin's, it  is a small chain enterprise that has as hallmark buying older buildings with some historical functional significance (schools, mental hospitals, railway stations) and re purposing them into restaurants and sometimes lodging facilities too, and sometimes lodging facilities and restaurants that also have entertainment venues in the mix, like movie theaters. (A good example of the latter is the McMenamin's St. Francis School in Bend, OR.)
This McMenamin's is strictly restaurant and brewpub and like all other McMenamin's restaurants the beverages and food are just "meh". Most of the time, so is the service. But Roseburg does not have a wealth of options for dining and this is in a convenient location so we've been "tugged" into McMenamin's here more once when we've arrived in town hungry and tired.. Each time feeling as if we'd been "had" for poor food quality and service being hidden by "kitsch".
There HAVE to be better options in Roseburg. Thanks to the reviews of other Yeeps on Yelp, we'll search them out. Because no more McMenamin's for us. Feeling "had" leaves us with a bad taste in our mouth.
I just love the McMenamins pub-style atmosphere. Our Roseburg Station is no exception. It has been said that the service here is very spotty, and unfortunately it's true. It can be very busy during happy hour and I think sometimes they're understaffed.
If you can get past that, which I easily can, it's a great place to hang out and the beer selection is pretty good. McMenamins ales are enjoyable and there's something for everybody.
I enjoy sitting outside in back (or in front, depending on my mood) in the summer. There's something about having a cold beer in the sunshine.. There is a "private" group room available for parties. There are some pictures scattered about on the walls.. one of them is of one of my great-great relatives, at his job at the train station. Another point of interest is the men's urinal. It is enormous. I hope I didn't ruin your appetite but I thought it was worth mentioning.
The menu is standard pub fare, with a small happy hour menu that features a few items for $3 or less. I like the BBQ Pork sandwich, the Portland Dip (like a French Dip but with Turkey and cheese) and the Fish and Chips. There are salads and soups, and a good pasta dish.
There are a few "off the menu" ale concoctions if you're adventurous. They'll mix a Terminator Stout with a Ruby to make a Rubinator. I like it for summer, when a stout is too much. You can also order a Rubberhead, which is the result of mixing Ruby with Hammerhead.
They make very good mixed drinks, too. McMenamins distills a whiskey, called HogsHead. Give that a try. Also, for dessert, you must have a Terminator Milkshake.
Roseburg Station is a great, fun, comfortable place. Enjoy.
I chose McMenamin's Roseburg Station for a meeting with an old friend I hadn't seen since 1970. We were steered right to my friend by a server, and from there, the service just plummeted. The pub was 1/4-1/3 full, so it wasn't busy. My friend we were meeting had been waiting for about 10 minutes for his pint before we got there, which sometimes just happens. My traveling partner & I each ordered a pint, and all three came together. We polished those off pretty quickly, and ordered another pint & a pitcher(2 different beers). After more than 15 minutes, I went up to the bar, where our server was talking to someone. I said "I've read reviews about how poor the service is here, but I just wanted to see for myself. Can we PLEASE get our beers, we're dying out here."
The beer immediately showed, & we ordered food. Two of us had delicious Chile Verde Chicken Enchiladas. No faults with the food, or the beer. My roadtrip partner had had a sweet tooth, so I snuck an order for a Black & Tan brownie to the server, and when it came, he said that was comped due to the delay. Our server was really nice, but just out to lunch. We paid with a credit card, and the server brought back the folder.....and then a couple of minutes later, brought another folder with another table's credit card. We flagged the server down & gave him the incorrect card, then gave him a $50 & asked for change.....and after 10 minutes, had to chase him down.
The beer & food are good, the service is inattentive at best, but as we walked out the door, a Grateful Dead bootleg tape was playing, & I said "It's McMenamin's!" Thanks Mike & Brian, nice place, but the server needs some coffee or something
So, I understand this is a chain. Â My husband said the food here was pretty good and the beer was even better.
I had the Ruby Ale (raspberry) which was almost like raspberry flavored club soda, it was so light. Â It wasn't BAD, it just wasn't as full-flavored as I'd like.
The hummus wrap I ordered was okay. Â Nothing spectacular. Â The tortilla was a bit on the hard, dry side. Â I took half of my meal home. Â Hehehe...here comes the good part. Â The next morning, I open my to-go box to eat my hummus wrap, it's growing mold where it was cut in half. Â Really?? Â I am not really sure what may cause that, the moisture, the utensil used to cut it in half, dirty hands!? Â Bleh. Â I'm surprised I didn't have diarrhea.
So, the ideas presented are attractive, however, the delivery is a bit off. Â I was satisfied, but I've definitely had better food and service.
May go back to try more beer, but that would probably be it.
We had the most splendid time AGAIN!!!!!!!! We usually go for appetizers and it always seems to work out well. We shared the buffalo wings, hummus plate, cajun tater tots and artichoke/spinach dip. We drank some Crinkley Nuts and plenty of Lemon Drops. There were only two people running the joint and one was the bartender. It was fairly busy but he made our visit fun.
Review Source:I generally love McMenamins. This was a McMenamins, it had the giant urinal, the good beer, the great happy hour food--all the makings of a typical McMenamins! But I didn't walk away thinking, "Wow, that was another amazing McMenamins experience."
Slower service, mediocre food, good beer, but not as exciting as the other McMenamins locations I've visited. In the context of the franchise, this one only gets two stars.
Disappointing!! We've given this location numerous attempts to shine, but they've disappointed on the food every time. We made this a stopping point on our frequent drive from Sacramento to Portland as a place to grab lunch and a beer. Each time we've ordered food, they've gotten our order wrong or forgotten it completely. Previous trips, I've made simple requests (dressing on the side, no mayo on my sandwich), and not once have our orders come out correct. Tonight, we sat down and after about 10 min, we ordered drinks (a Ruby & milkshake) and tots. The Ruby came out quickly, with an explanation that the shake would take longer. So, we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, 30 min later, my shake came out (melted) and still no tots. We had a horrid time finding our waiter to ask about the mediocre shake and missing tots. I finally went up to the bar to ask. Our waiter was gracious and removed the milkshake, but at the end of an hour trip to the restaurant, we left hungry and disappointed!
Review Source:Aside the attractive hippie-Frenchman waiter I would say this place was possibly less than 2 stars, but for his great attitude and dazzling personality it stays where it is.
The spinach salad had major potential for being great. Chicken smoked to taste like bacon (dayum!) was great but the spinach was a tad wilted and everything else was just barely there.
What WAS exceptional was the happy hour priced Penney's Gin & Tonic. Wow. I now know what tonic should taste like at a very affordable price!
Thank you!
we kinda got forgotten about on the patio but once we hailed down a waitress she was nice and friendly. sampled the fish and chips - two large pieces of crispy-on-the-outside, moist flakiness on the inside (wished it came with vinegar and lemons and couldn't hail the waitress down for some) - and their fries are thin and that perfect right-before-burnt-but-not crispiness. the burgers sound good and seemed like most people were enjoying the beer selection. clean and cozy decor - a good place for groups.
Review Source:Been in this 'burg on business for a few days and wanted a simple burger and a cold beer in a relaxed environment. This joint delivered . . . with a couple of very large parties of many already stretching the staff & stock to the limits my burger was prepared as requested and my beer frosty & cold. extremely reasonably priced and cool as a cucumber server.
Review Source:We went into McMenamin's on a Sunday evening around 6:30pm. The place was moderately busy and the sign said "Please Seat Yourselves", so we did.
Our seating area was infested with flies. They were all over the place and we noticed at least a dozen flying around our immediate area and maybe a half dozen crawling around on our table and all over the menus.
We walked out in disgust. This place needs some sort of pest control system.
(The 4 stars is for happy hour only....otherwise it gets 3)
I sat at the bar and had my 1st happy hour at a McMenamins. Â I've been to all the Portland area McMenamins and was so happy when I actually experienced decent service here (prepare to be ignored in Portland). Â Not only did I get decent service I got a drink and 2 entrees for under 7 bucks. Â It has the typical fare and decor that you've come to expect from these establishments. Â I'm not a beer drinker...but my fresh squeezed greyhound was delish.
We attempted to have lunch here on a Monday around 1pm. Â After 3 "be right with you's" and 20 minutes someone came to take our order. Â Before ordering we asked how long it would take to get our food. Â The answer: at least 30 minutes. Â We said we'd find another restaurant. Â The reply: that sounds like a good idea.
This is a management failure. Â The restaurant was clearly understaffed for the level of business they had. Â Typically the business level will decline to the capacity of the restaurant to handle it. Â We will not be returning.
I don't think I could have been more disappointed with this place. Â We met a friend for dinner here and she was from Eugene and knew her way around Roseburg, we were just passin through on our way to Olympia. Â I searched for a place that had some character and something called "Roseburg Station Brew Pub" sounds awesome so that's what we picked.
We show up and this place looks like it is going to be great. Â Instead it turns into an Old Spaghetti Factory Redux. Â Old building, old pictures, down-home feel...combined with terrible service, worse food, and a disgrace to whatever used to be in the building.
My Whiskey Chicken Sandwich was just dry and plain. Â The menu said it was made with whiskey and coffee. Â I asked the waiter (who took his sweet time showing up) how much it tasted like coffee, he said not at all. Â Then I asked him how much it tasted like whiskey, he said not at all. Â I should have listened to him because this sandwich tasted bland. Â If not for the tons of a salad they topped it off with, it wouldn't have tasted like anything except cardboard. Â So so so bad. Â To accompany my sandwich, I chose tots. Â These tots must have shared a fryer with onion rings because they tasted like a Bloomin' Onion. Â Again, very bad.
Of course, after repeated complaints, our local friend, who only got a drink, decided to tell us that this place was actually really bad and sort of sucked. Â Thanks for tellin me Jami.
Anyways, if you are a tourist, be wary of these McMenimans places...
The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because I really enjoyed the decor and the restoration of the space. Â Otherwise, definitely not my first choice in dining. Â We met a friend here while we were staying the night in Roseburg and we were able to seat ourselves right away. Â Unfortunately, we ignored for the better part of ten minutes until our friend edged her way to the end of the booth and stuck her head out until someone finally came over. Â
We ordered our drinks and I got the mac and cheese. Â The Mac and Cheese was sadly average. Â The cheese sauce was plain and kind of runny. Â The noodles were thankfully cooked properly and the garlic bread served with it was pretty tasty, but a little over toasted.
I probably wouldn't come back, but not the worst food I have ever had.
I loved it. Â My BBQ bacon cheese burger was great, as was the clam chowder. Â I got a boysenberry stout, which they affectionately called the "Boyz in the hood." Â It wasn't the best Stout I've ever had, but served the purpose none the less.
I also have to say the decor here is awesome! Â They've filled the ceiling with countless period chandeliers and pendant lamps which gives the place a really nice glow on a cloudy day or once the sun has set. Â
Perhaps not the best McMenamins location ever, but sure darn good for Roseburg, Oregon, and most places for that matter.
