Great place! I usually don't grab food, but every time I've come for some live music or a night on the patio its been a great time. The heaters outside are fantastic during the colder months. Its a mixed crowd and I've always found either someone I know or someone else interesting to chat with.
Food wise, I've had the burger - YUM.
If I ever write a screenplay or novel about living in a small town, it's going to have a bar like McSharry's in the center of it. I love this place. It's everything a small-town bar should be.
It's easy to get pretentious in a town like Fairhope (hello, My Place bar across the street) but McSharry's has never fallen into that trap.
Ronan, the owner, is a great guy who remembers me no matter how infrequently I come in (which is every couple of months when I'm visiting my parents' home.) He goes out of his way to be friendly and ask about my mother and sister. The other bartenders are also friendly.
The food is great, the patio is fun, the music is good--whether it's an iPod, a DJ, or live Irish music being played right there in the bar! The bathrooms are clean, which isn't something I take for granted coming from New Orleans.
Stop in, put your feet up and have a beer!
Just passing through ...
McSharry's strikes me a local dive bar but with decent food. It's not very big inside although there is patio seating.
Based on the reviews, I was expecting a more extensive menu, but they only offer various pub appetizers/starters and a selection of sandwiches mostly. Shepherd's pie and fish & chips, of course. I went with a reuben with potato salad on the side. The potato salad was recommended by reviews and well it should be. Reuben also did not disappoint - nice, big chunks of tasty corned beef.
If I have to give this place a rating - it would be a negative one.
I would not advise anyone to visit this place at all. The owner Ronan is  verbally abusive. He has a habit of calling ladies the "B" and "C" names!! The "F" word is the only adjective he knows. It depends on how much he has to drink and when he decide to abuse his customers. Worst person to own a bar.
I was in last memorial day, actually I was in every day that weekend..I was treated rather well. Â I promised to take a photo wearing the T-shirt they gave me (while in Iraq) - which I followed through on. Â Hope they read this post..I mailed the photo and a flag flown here in Iraq to accompany it..it was returned as "refused"...so unless I hear from you guys I will deliver it personally next July!
Review Source:This bar is quaint and nonsmoking! Â We were there on Sat, March 13, 2010 for dinner and drinks. Â We had chips with homemade salsa-- very good. Â For dinner we had a GREAT burger and a Reuben sandwich. Â For dessert -- the bread pudding!! Â The food was good and the beer was super cold. Â Wish we could have stayed around for St. Patty's day. Â The other Irish pub in Fairhope was not nonsmoking!
