This place was absolutely Fantastic!
My girlfriend and I were scoping the area for things to do and places to see and we slipped in here for a few drinks.
We were automatically greeted by the older gentleman bartender who seemed to know EVERYTHING about everything. He was from San Francisco originally, and made us feel completely engaged in the small town the bar hosts every night.
The pool was $1.00 a pop and there was even a shaded smoking venue, in case you felt like still enjoying your drink and doing that.
There are so many events here and the people make the place retain a wholesome feel to it.
I actually even came back here after I had horrible service from the Rainbow Cattle Co. from across the street. Paul the bartender felt bad for me and gave me a free shot to commemorate my birthday, turning a disappointing bar experience into an amazing one! He and Kyle were insanely friendly and I will be sure to return when I visit Russian River again.
Great job, you guys! You really know how to take care of your customers! :)
The Warriors game was on. The bartender and the regulars were friendly beyond belief. The "flaming lemon drop" was fabulous. They had Don Julio. The Blue Moon on tap was finished off with a perfect spritz of orange. When we got hungry, they told us where to get kick-butt burritos and helped us call in our order. Told us to bring 'em on back and finish watching the game. Seriously, did I just stumble into a fantasyland?! We're considering renting a van and bringing a load of Bay Area folks up here to see what a proper bar looks like. And no, I don't just like them because they got me drunk.
Review Source:World cup re-con stop #4: What we have here is a large space with a high ceiling and concrete floor. Bartender was very friendly but this place probably weighed in with the strongest bar funk smell. Maybe it's because we did our re-con in the light of day. It seems that daylight decreases both one's tolerance to alcohol as well as their tolerance to bar smell. What can I say, I like my bars less fragrant in the morning.
The money maker at the Bullpen is the outdoor beer garden. It's fenced off with lattice type stuff, so you're not exposed to the elements, but you are sitting in an outdoor room. Perfect for escaping the funk, having a smoke, and watching the game. Not a lot of tvs outside, so seating may become an issue during certain events. They also have live music here on a regular basis which is probably both a blessing (if it's good) and a curse (if it sucks). 2.5 stars rounded up b/c they didn't bat an eye at how tore up I looked after 6 hours of tubing.
