Mel's Dairy Dream. Built on the ground where Harper Lee's house used to be, next to Truman Capote's summer home ruins in Monroeville, AL.
I was expecting home-made, natural flavoured, country ice-cream, scooped by hand out of a bucket........instead it was nasty artificial-flavoured Mr.Whippy crap out of a machine.
So disapointed.
This reminds of childhood. I grew up eating here, I would skip lunch period at school and come here in high school. Mel's is the classic southern drive-up no parking space, no drive-thru, no bathroom, no seating inside or out. Southern style almost everything is fried from the chicken livers to the steak sandwiches. Old style milkshakes to boot. If you are ever in Monroeville Al stop by and give them a try.
Review Source:Really good ice cream. Not sure where the southern hospitality here was though. Â I hope it was just a random occurrence. Â I was disappointed they didn't have malts :) Â But I'm sure their shakes were good.
Historic location- was the location of Harper Lee's childhood home, and right next to the ruins of Truman Capote's childhood home.
