  My buddy and I made it a point to make it out to Mel's Diner, and we barely made it in for an early dinner. We were excited that locals abounded this eatery, but Mel's was soon to disappoint.
  
  There is an awesome local atmosphere as this really small town diner has a low-key, off-the-beaten path location.
  
  The spicy burger was disappointing. The grilled onions were nice, but the meat was dry, and the jalapaneos were not spicy. The fries are OK, nothing special.
  
  If you are heading around the area, think about checking it out, but I will say that Amarillo has some much better grub. Even if you are into small town cafes, this may not satisfy your hankering for a greasy spoon. The food was just kind of mediocre.
