On their salsa alone I am sold!! It is the type I could eat straight from the bowl until the heartburn took over! Great flavors and just enough heat to make you glisten with sweat. Nice crisp chips that are not overly salty or greasy. Attentive servers and quick service- the main meal was great, but the sides were nothing special. We had the hard chicken tacos, which were exactly what I expected- delicious!
Upon leaving I saw their margarita specials and am looking forward to coming back when we can drink to try them out!
Fast, friendly service, Excellent menu, very fresh food, and great value.
We have tried other mexican restaurants and always come back to Mexico.. We have not found any that matches or even comes close to Mexico. Â Even if they are busy, the service is great.. Â Would recommend the Chile Verde!!
Visiting my daughter and son in law in MD is always a crabfest, so when Mexico was suggested, of course, we were a bit skeptical. Â It was almost 8pm on a Friday and we had to wait. Â Only about 10 minutes, but a surprise to see a crowd at a place we had driven by on our previous years' visits to Huntingtown. Â The restaurant is pleasantly decorated and large inside. Â Not at all what you would expect from the outside.
We were unfortunate in our seating location. Â There were a table of about 8 10 year old girls seated behind us. Â Their Deserate housewives of Calvert County mothers were at another table downing the delicious and generous Margaritas at another and totally oblivious to the shrieking girls, who proceeded to spill an entire cup of soda on the floor as soon as we arrived, thus delaying what turned out to be terrific service.
But, I digress.
The food was as good as our Mexican town in Detroit! Â The fajitas were sizzling and wow, the serving was large enough to share. Â It was the scallop and shrimp. Â Tons of each and yummy.
Also, the arroz con pollo, was a heaping plate of pollo with a delicate cheese sauce. Â A bit on the bland side, but easily spiced up with the great salsa, (served in a mini carafe) and habanero sauce. Â
Also, the #F (?) is a chicken enchilada and a burrito. Â This dish is very popular, as the name came from a misprint on their menu when they first opened and has never changed names due to its popularity.
A definite return to place for Mexican while in the Bay area. Â
Oh, yeah the best thing is the price. Â Dinners in the area are a lot higher than we see in Michigan, and here it's a definite value for your buck.
I have ate at all three Mexico Restaurants in Southern Maryland and the only one I would visit again is the one in Waldorf.  This and the now closed Lusby location don't/didn't serve fresh looking food and the flavor is just not there.  The tortilla chips are too thick and the salsa too watery.  I pass the Huntingtown location every day from work and I am never tempted  to stop there.  I would rather drive a little further to La Tolteca in Prince Frederick and If I could wait longer I will just make it to Monterey in Lusby.  I honestly think the only reason they get packed is because is the closest mexican restaurant to most people north of Rt 4.
Review Source:Went here on a Saturday a little after 6 pm. Â It was not too crowded yet, but I second what others have said about Mexico...it definitely will get crowded! (As it did by the time we left) Â
The salsa is absolutely amazing, and the wait staff readily refills the chips and the salsa for you. Â
I ordered the Arroz con Pollo. Â It was flavorful, excellent, and huge. Â I couldn't finish all of it, but the part that I did eat was fantastic. Â It's still remarkable after several visits that this place used to be the Surrey Inn. Â The owners of Mexico should be proud of what they've accomplished and provided to the Calvert County community.
It's definitely not like the song you learned on the playground when you were younger. You will want to go to Mexico, more, more, more. Â I'm a little spoiled because I lived in California and had to die for Mexican cuisine on a regular basis. However, this is some of the best Mexican food I've had since I've been back in Maryland. PS their margaritas are knock-you-on-your-ass good. Give 'em a try.
Review Source:The food is better than a regular Mexican restaurant but not to die for Mexican food, but more importantly, the prices are great and the service is quick. Â This is great for a family that wants to get out to lunch or dinner and not go to fast food, or sit and wait for dinner with impatient kids. Â We've been back several times and will keep returning. Â The chips and salsa they serve you when you get in rock; the kids roll through them quick...and my kids don't eat anything. Â If I cared enough about atmosphere I'd only give this place 4 stars because the place is not that much to look at, but I couldn't care less about that, so five stars it is...
Review Source:I'm from San Antonio, so when we moved to Calvert County I was excited to hear about this "great" Mexican restaurant. Â What a disappointment. Â
First off, I didn't know it was possible to make Mexican food so bland. Â Places where asadero or other queso blanco should be used, they're substituted with monterey jack. Â The peppers managed to be equally, and inexplicably, bland. Â Further, any attempt to spice things up with the (watery) salsa is futile. Â
At best, I would describe Mexico as the IHOP of Mexican food. Â If you're a fan of Denny's, maybe it's for you.
I recently moved to the Calvert area so I'm up for checking out all the local establishments. I had passed by this restaurant several times and every time it looks soo packed, which is a good sign for me. My husband and I eat a lot of Mexican food so we were happy to see something close to the house.
We have been once and I have to say that I'm a fan. They have a weeknight happy Hour from 3-7 offering food and drinks.
We ordered the Shrimp / Chicken Combo and it came sizzling hot with all the sides and warm tortillas.
The chips were homemade and salsa had a great kick.. Currently I'm into the Queso dips and am addicted to theirs and can't wait to go back.
although they look very packed they looked as though they didn't have any waiting.
I've lived in Ann Arundel county for 2 years and last year I was scouting the area and was on my way to California Md, when I saw MEXICO sitting on the side of the road...on my way back I stopped by and I'm hooked...I go just about every fri...sometimes all three days of the weeke nd! Â I've always felt welcomed there...the food is absolutely great and the portions to die for! Â I've taken numerous folk there and each one loved it! Â The margarita's are NOT Â to played with, they are the best! Â Wish they could get a deck but the county won't allow it for whatever reason! Â Anyway...ITS WORTH THE DRIVE!
Review Source:Since we live in the SE Maryland suburbs, this place is one of our favorites to go to, and honestly some of the best Mexican food we've found here in the area. Â Its menu has a great selection, the restaurant is clean, and the service is fast. Â On top of that, you can practice your Spanish. Â The mole poblano is to die for.
Review Source:My default choice for local food. If my wife asks me "Where do you want to go for lunch?"
Odds are, nine out of ten that I'll say Mexico.
During prime time, it packs up nicely, but turnaround is swift, and there is a bar to lounge at if you choose.
Slower times are even better... I tend to gravitate there around 11:30/noontime for a bit of lunch, and the food arrives fast, fresh and in copious amounts. Additionally, the chips and salsa seem even tastier early in the day!
A broad selection of beers are available, and there are a wide variety  of selections for the seafood and veggie set as well as the usual chicken, beef, or beans sort of entrees.
The wait staff is friendly, attentive and swift. Family owned, and folks there remember your name.
If you're hungry... go! now!
I think James Taylor said it best..."Ooooohh Mexico!"
The face of Calvert County is changing and what was once the old Surrey Inn, where you could get your omlette with or without the waitresse's dangling cigarette ash as garnish, has been replaced by "Mexico"...our first real Mexican restaurants.
Like crowds? Good. Becuse like everything else new  in Calvert County, Mexico is packed. All. The. Time. But it's not undeserved. The food is good, the service is fast and the plates are full. There are plenty of choices...although my west coast spouse bemoans the lack of fish tacos. Quite honestly, I can order a side of rice, beans and the ever present full basket of chips and be full.
Mexico serves the greenest margarita I have ever seen. It's not the pale lime-like green of a freshly squeezed key-west fruit, but something akin to the blood of an alien and antifreeze. I'm sure that, if we smuggled a black light into the restaurant, the margarita would glow like nuclear waste.
Did I mention how crowded it is? If you're from the county and you're trying to avoid someone else from the county...don't come here. Chances are you'll see them. Â Luckily, the waitstaff handles the influx of Calco's hungry masses well, and the wait has never been a long one.
Oh yea. Fried IceCream. Very, very good. Not as entertaining as the chartreuse margarita, but worth ordering to share.
If you find yourself in Calvert County and have a hankerin' for an inexpensive, solid Mexican meal in a large, family setting and the possibility of seeing one person sitting in a corner holding a blacklight up to her drink...Mexico is a perfect spot.
I have eaten at this restaurant at least twenty times. We love to come here. The food is fresh and delicious. My two favorite entrees are the chicken fajitas and the chile verde. The service here is usually quick and friendly; however, the last two times I've been in the service has been rather indifferent. I hope this doesn't continue.
