Followed another reviewer's tip and had fantastic tasty carnitas tacos and azada burrito. Way more delicious and also more affordable choice compared to the crowded and grubby subway by the freeway.

I found this place on Yelp while driving on I5 and trying to find something more healthy than In n Out. It's on the left as you drive in from the freeway. We almost missed it. It's not really a restaurant although there is a little table to sit if you need to. I took my to go. I got two tacos: one chicken and one carnitas, the carnitas was much better. They were made fresh right there and the ingredients were of high quality although they might not appear so from the look of the place. The guy who made my food was really nice and seemed to love what he does. They have cold Parrot coconut water in there too, which was a huge plus for me.

I found this place by, while driving up 5 from Los Angeles to San Francisco, stopping to get gas at one of the standard "five gas stations and four chain fast food joints" type off-ramps.  There was a local man selling produce outside the gas station, and I asked him for a recommendation for good Mexican food.  After confirming I liked Tacos, this is where he sent me.  It's only a mile or two away from the main freeway, along a fast moving highway.

What it is: A tiny hole-in-the-wall Mexican (Latino) market, selling limited produce, ethnic foods, a meat counter, and so on.  They also have a flattop grill, mainly for tacos.  Tacos are $1.25 each.  Yes, $1.25 each.  They sell the standard sodas, etc, for cheap as well.

The exceedingly friendly owner asked me what I wanted; I told him two tacos; he took steak from the meat counter, chopped it up, threw it on the grill with some fresh corn tortillas, and when they were ready, asked if I wanted "everything" on them -- which was cilantro, a lime slice, some lettuce, and a really good probably homemade salsa.

They have a table in the front of the store, or will pack them to go.

They were also just finishing the process of making chicharrón; I complimented how great they looked and smelled, and he gave me a small slice / piece for free.

Go here if: You're stopping for gas in Kettleman City and hate the thought of going to a fast food joint, but want something fast and tasty, with great service.

Don't go here if: you want more than a couple of menu options, tops.

Warning: No idea of their hours; it wouldn't surprise me if they are something like 8 AM to 8 PM though.
