My boyfriend and I visited this place while in Palm Springs 2 weeks ago... I wish I could remember the name of the concierge at our hotel so I could call and personally thank her for the fabulous recommendation!
We dined there on a Friday night. When the walked in we were greeted by a lovely woman who we later found out is one of the owners! The place was pretty busy and I'm glad we called ahead to reserve a table. The ambiance was very welcoming with Italian music in the background. Our server was Joey, one of Mimmo's sons! Talk about a family business!
Now to the best part...
We started with the mussels and clams appetizer which came in this wonderful savory broth which is really nice to dip the homemade bread in. Really fresh; not a closed one in the bunch. Then we shared shared a caprese salad with yummy soft mozzarella.
For the main course I ordered the Veal Scaloppine with prosciutto and sage and my honey had the Gnocchi Pesto. We were both wowed. Mine was super tender and delicious and came with a side of polenta and veggies. It's super easy to screw up gnocchi (I've done it many times), but THESE gnocchi were AMAZING. I made the man fork over several of them. The pesto was perfect and had a great mild garlic flavor. Even though we'd been checked on by our great server, Mimmo himself came over to personally ask how we were enjoying our meal, and told me that his wife had picked the sage on my veal that morning from their garden! Wow.
They also have an excellent wine selection. I can't remember which one I had but it was very nice. I wish we hadn't been too satisfied to have dessert. We will next time. The portions are totally worth the prices, which are really reasonable for the quality of food.
You can really tell that the owners love their business and I think they're going to be around for a loooong time. We will most certainly be stopping in next time we're in the southern part of the state.
Mimmo's Italian Restaurant truly is amazing! I first tried Mimmo's last year in November and from that point on haven't stopped going back.
The Petrale Sole with capers in a lemon-butter sauce is absolutely decadent. The fish is cooked to perfection and is served with two sides of your choosing. Their portion sizes are very generous and you do indeed get what ou pay for. All of their food tastes fresh and is truly made to order.
The owners both walk around the entire evening checking on all guests and making each customer feel welcome and comfortable. Anytime I am looking to take someone out to a new restaurant and introduce friends to an upscale true Italian eatery I think no further than Mimmo's!
Everything from the ambiance to the service is nothing short of five stars.
Had a delicious dinner last night! Friendly service from our entrance throughout our entire meal. Warm atmosphere and excellent service! Sea Bass was perfection and the carrots served on the side have a special taste from honey and cumin! Pasta delicious and don't forget to have the dessert! Tiramisu yummy!
Review Source:Had a wonderful birthday dinner for 7 of us..I'd give 5 stars but every time I do my review gets filtered. Â Started with appetizers..the Polenta with mushroom sauce and the Melon with prosciutto and both were great. The homemade bread and olive dip were so good. Â We had a nice Chianti by the glass for one person and the rest of shared two bottles of Artessa Chardonnay. Nice wine list too. Between us we ordered the Veal with eggplant(Sicula), Veal Picatta, Osso Buco, Shrimp Scampi, the Linguine with seafood (All' Isolana) and the Spaghetti and meatballs. Â We all enjoyed every last bite. Our server was great and always on top of everything. Â Not an easy task with our group. Â For my birthday treat Mimmo brought a beautiful Marscapone cheesecake with a berry sauce and it was light and delicious. Â Mimmo and Victoria were the most gracious hosts and we can't wait to go back!
Review Source:Ate the for the first time since it was this <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fnew.name&s=f3d8fda46a53c2973b787057c086aa5262c3fb856749880dc332986c99997b44" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://new.name</a>, the place is so much nicer , cleaner, fresher, great service, Yes here it comes
I ordered spaghetti bolognese  and still haven't found any meat -lol 24 hours later,
They state add a salad or soup 3,90
I asked the waiter does that include wedge or Caesar- he said yes
I got the wedge
The bill came
17.90 for a bowl of tasteless spaghetti with no meat, I actually found a piece of string in it,
7.90 for the wedge
That's $26. Â Wow and it was not good
We had thought to go to aqua piazza at the river where a 3 course is 19.95 and very very good but decided to give this a try.
It was a mistake.
Overpriced
Tasteless food
Mis represented the prices for the add ons
Hope it makes it through summer it's definitely not local friendly
But apart from that the food was so bad
Have been going here since it opened. Food is consistently good. Bar is good. Think the overall value is great! In season service is slower then normal. Wish they would give their same excellent service all year round. However, the restaurant is very busy and can understand the service issue. Owners always there to answer or help with anything.
Review Source:A nice addition to the Coachella Valley, this family operated Italian restaurant offers very good food at reasonable prices. Â The service is friendly and efficient, and they have a nice, moderately priced wine list. Â The ambiance is nothing special, but there is outside seating and the noise level is acceptable. Â Try the chicken parmigiana and the Toscana salad. Â The seafood dishes are also quite good. Â We recommend trying Mimmo's as it is better than some of the long established Italian restaurants in the Palm Springs area.
Review Source:Disappointing experience. We called ahead to see if they served gluten free pasta. Which they did and I ordered. However when it was served the sauce was poured over big lumps of gluey spaghetti. It was completely inedible. Had a terrible taste. When I returned the dish, the server came back to tell me that that's the way gluten free pasta cooks. I have been gluten free for years, ordered  gluten free pasta at many restaurants in the desert and have cooked many varieties of gluten free pasta at home.... always good and never "lumpy".
I was left without a meal while my husband finished his. Too late to order something else. Waiter did not offer to bring me something else instead and did not "comp" us. The owner visited the table next to us. But not our table, apparently did not want to draw attention to a "mistake" nor apologize.
We will definitely not return nor recommend to others.
I had the opportunity to visit Mimmos this past weekend on a visit to Palm Desert. Â I was with my parents and the three of us had an outstanding meal. Â The restaurant is old school Italian in the sense that it is a family run business. Â The staff was very personable and warm. Â The food was fresh and the portions large. Â We had the chicken cacciatore, the fresh sea bass and the salmon and we were all very happy with the meal! The $8 dollar glass of chianti was outstanding. Â An excellent option in the Desert- we'll be back!
Review Source:well....boring and unimaginative. Â We were enticed by the note on their website about fresh ingredients, organic etc. Â Had the salmon, asked server,reply.. farmed salmon....well so much for organic etc. Â Spaghetti bolognese, tasteless and overcooked. Â Salads uninspired, where's the garden fresh ingredients?
overall, all of us were unimpressed. Â there are plenty of chef driven Italian restaurants with far more exciting fare.
Our first time at Mimmo's, a party of 7, with reservations. Â Our table was ready, seated right away. Â Monday night so not too busy. Â . Â Spaghetti Bolognese was good, but could be better, cook longer, add touch of red wine, a tad acidic.. Â Pre-grated cheese, not sure about this, it is always better to serve right off the wedge of cheese, no doubts then. Â Sole was excellent. Â Will be back. Â LR Â la Quinta
Review Source:Food was very good! I got the sole with polenta and spinach. The sole was cooked perfectly-moist in the center and a light crisp around the edges. Friend got a daily special and said the sauce was creamy and delicious. The owners are delightful. They go out of their way to make people feel like they're dining with friends.
Review Source:I'd love to give Mimmo's 5-stars because the food was delicious. However, the service was undeniably bad. We were very rushed and  the waiter seemed to hover over us, eager to remove plates as soon as one finished a course, without regard to whether anyone else was still eating. During dessert, the waiter put the check IN FRONT of my friend who still had a FORK in her hand, ready to take another bite. the check-book was STOOD up in front of her, rather than simply left on a table corner. While we were attempting to finish dessert and coffee, the restaurant turned the lights OFF on us.  we weren't aware the place closed at 9pm and it was just before 930p. We had a 745pm reservation and were not advised of the restaurant's closing time. For 'fine dining', I'd rather go down the street to Castellis where the waitstaff expects you to be leisurely, enjoy your meal and leave a happy customer. Not the case at Mimmo's it seems.
FOOTNOTE: Â there are TWO sections to the restaurant and all 6 people in our party were shocked that the lights were off in our section while the owner sat with her staff eating in the front section, near the door. Indefensible treatment of customers who dropped nearly $200 on the meal. Good luck with that.
We have visited Mimmo's 3 times now, and there are many good reasons why we keep going back for more. The food is quite simply delicious, the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, and  the owners go out of their way to welcome you and make sure everything is to your liking.  From the homemade bread presented upon arrival, to the mouth watering dessert selection, and everything in between, nothing on this menu has disappointed us yet...and do leave room for dessert; you won't be sorry! Mimmo's is truly a delicious treat. We will certainly be going back, and if you give it a try, you will too!
Review Source:My family and I tried Mimmo's last night. Â The place was packed on a Wed night. Â The food was OK, not great. Â The pear slices on my salad were not ripe. My chicken with pancetta, fontina, and spinach had so little pancetta and cheese in it that I wouldn't have known it was there. Â Plus it was a little dry. Â The vegetables were great. Â My husband's spaghetti bolognese was al dente but the sauce wasn't as good as he would have liked. Â The other people in our party liked their crab ravioli and shrimp scampi. Â Mimmo's homemade ricotta cheesecake was excellent! Â
The service was timely, but faulty. Â Our waiter never told us about the specials, when we asked for more sauce, it took a while to get, and our bill was from another table.
Mimmo stopped by the table several times and we gave him our comments. Â He clearly cares a lot and deducted our dessert from the bill. Â It's too bad the chef doesn't seem to care as much as Mimmo does.
I'd go back and try it again, though I'd try something else on the menu.
This was my first visit to this restaurant, but my wife's third visit.
The food was delicious and served hot, they have a great wine selection, cozy atmosphere with a friendly staff.
As soon as we were seated and ordered our drinks, we were given fresh house-made bread with olive spread. We had the sausage starter with the mustard dipping sauce and the Cesar salad, lasagna and halibut for the entree, then cheesecake and tiramisu for dessert. I had a nice Pinot Gris by the glass and a cappuccino with dessert.
Overall, you can tell the owners (they stopped by our table several times to make sure things were perfect, IE food, temp) have paid attention to all the details since they took ownership and remodeled the place. We can't wait to come back!
This is a great New Italian Restaurant !  Very nice atmosphere  and the food is authentic with attention to detail . For the appetizer I enjoyed the Fried calamari with aioli  sauce which is different from the traditional marinara  traditionally used . Sometimes the calamari  can be tough and overcooked but not here .  For Dinner  I ordered the   Pasta Victoria which had a great combination of sun dried tomatoes , artichoke hearts  and olives which was perfectly AL dente and the sauce had a rich flavor .  Overall a great experience and I will be going back for more.
Review Source:First time visit last night. I am so happy to find such a wonderful little place. To start with, the service was so friendly and the waiter (Mimmo's son) so knowledgeable and attentive. The food was GREAT! Â Started with the polenta appetizer with cremini mushroom sauce. Â Every bite was heaven. Â The sauteed calamari appetizer was so tender and flavorful. Â Entrees were a veal dish with eggplant and mozzarella with a tomato sauce, and a seafood dish (similar to cioppino) over pasta. Â The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, and the broth was delicious, infused with the seafood flavors. Â The veal dish was also great with delicious roasted potatoes and perfect sauteed carrots with a touch of honey and cumin. Â This is a foodie's delight---everything so fresh and flavorful. Â Can't wait to go back.
Review Source:A friend and I ate at Mimmo's on Saturday, May 19. and had the most wonderful, flavorful food. I had the pork tenderloin, served with a sauce unlike anything I've ever tasted...carmelized onions, apple, pear, cranberry, buttery; side of polenta and fresh, perfectly cooked carrots. Friend had a chicken breast with proscuitto, spinach, fontina, on a delightful red sauce. And our waitress --- Hailey --- was a delight. I'll be back on my next visit to the desert! Please stay in business!
Review Source:NOTE: Â This location was La Cucina Restaurant and that place closed. In May 2012 it opened as Mimmo's with new owners, so reviews prior to May are from the old La Cucina and do not reflect on the new Mimmo's.
Went to try this place for the first time since reopening as Mimmo's with new owners.
They have done a nice job redecorating with all new furniture and nicely set tables. Both owners were there and stopped by the table individually to check on things. Pleasant wait staff. Bread and water were served literally ten seconds after we were seated.
The menu has all the standards for an italian restaurant (except pizza) and is moderately priced. Both our dishes were served hot and were fresh and tasty.
Would definitely try this restaurant again.
