Came here for happy hour and I was impress with their beer selection. They were able to let me sample some of them that they were offerring so I can choose the right one. I ended up drinking the Curious Traveler and it was such a yummy beer. They also offer a beer flight where you can choose 4 - 5 ounce beers so you can sample them.
We sat at the bar and had a few appetizers. All the food are reasonable priced and they looked really good. We ordered the sesame calamari, lobster roll, pizza, wings, edamme, and dragon roll. Everyone was pleased and everything tasted very good.
I'll keep this one short and simple, this place was horrible. Met some friends for beers, as they had a pretty good craft beer list with some winter warmers. Was drinking $7 pints of porter, when the server brought me my last beer in a much smaller plastic cup. What's going on here I inquired, still $7 for these? "Yup, the bartenders pour them in these cups when it gets busy." $7 for a Dixie cup of craft beer, after drinking them in glass pints all night, strike one. My wife had ordered a cup of coffee as she was the DD, love her! When she asked for a second cup, she was told they didn't have any more because the restaurant was closed and the coffee comes from the restaurant. What?? A bar with no coffee, connected to a closed restaurant with lots of coffee on the shelves - buy an airpot! Strike two. And here's the kicker of them all. While in the bathroom, the cook walks in and takes a piss and then walks right back out. Are you kidding me? Check please, strike 3 and you're out.
My friend and I are chefs who have worked in the industry since teenagers, and neither of us have ever had an experience like this. Who's running this place?
Minglewood Tavern is the casual bar of Latitude 43. Â I'm not entirely sure why a casual dining spot needs to have an even more casual dining area attached. Â However, that's not what bothers me, what irks me is that they don't offer the full Latitude menu--you're limited to sushi, a handful of pizzas, and some grill items. Â If you're the same restaurant, you should at least have the basic entrees, especially if your in a spot where tourists happen to wander. Â I came by this spot on the way back from Rockport looking for a good plate of fish and chips. Â Latitude 43 was closed for a private function so I figured this would be just as good since they share a kitchen. Â The beer selection was pretty expansive, so finding something to drink with my order was no problem at all, but I was much less impressed with the actual fish and chips. Â Apparently the fish and chips at Lat 43 are different, so I can't comment on their quality. Â Served on a wooden plank I got some colossal cut fries and four deep-fried rectangles of fish. Â The batter was flavorless and encased the fish like carbonite, but the fries were decent enough. Â An hour later I found myself with what was probably my worst upset stomach to date, though I couldn't be sure it from from the food, lest I go back and try it again. Â I doubt that's going to happen.
