We came in earlier today for some beer before we watch grown ups right next door. We got a pitcher of blue moon  and that was good (lightweight so I got buzz).
The service was very friendly, but they did take just a little long on the beer. Maybe next time I'll try some sushi.
I give 4 stars for being next to the theaters and just the overall cleanliness of the place.
Plus oh yeah, grown ups 2 isn't as good as the first one unfortunately and it sucks that you have to pay for parking in this area ($2hr).
Sushi is good and comes in a boat. We ordered the Stockton Roll, Crab Roll, Rock & Roll Roll, and Big Mama Roll, but they all looked and tasted pretty much the same aside from the deep fried one. However, I like the option of being able to deep fry any roll--that's a plus! It is a convenient option if you are planning to catch a movie right after or happen to be downtown.
Review Source:I used to love this place, but recently they have gone downhill :(
Their sushi are so skimpy, it's mostly seaweed and rice! Â And their tempura ice cream has also gotten significantly smaller, and the batter is more like a dense cake (both good and bad). Â
Decent place, and it's right next to the movie theaters.
My work friends & I have been lunch regulars for several years now as we work nearby at the courts. Â I feel increasingly frustrated at the quality of service & I don't mean from the servers. The cooks have become sooooo slow at getting the food up. We are at the most a five minute walk away so we have nearly an hour but don't get served our sushi rolls until 12:35 to 12:40. Today was really awful. We didn't get our rolls until 12:48!!!! Leaving us no choice but to inhale our lunch. The quality of food remains good but I can no longer recommend this place to alone on their lunch break. There's a new kid in town...French 25 & they make serving the lunch crowd in a timely manner a priority.
Review Source:We just moved to Stockton so we have been trying to find certain restaurants. We had a place in Seaside,Ca we loved...and this place reminds us of it. The sushi is fresh and the place is clean. The wait staff is very helpful. We ended up do one of the Chef's Boats, great idea. It fed all 3 of us with no problem. We will be coming back for sure.
Review Source:A friend of mine brought me here a couple years ago, even though I told him I don't care for sushi. Now, we go every payday. I'm madly in love with the Miso soup, the Special Scallops, and my ultimate fave, The Rock N Roll. If you go in the afternoon, their happy hour prices can't be topped!!! Love love love this place!!!!
Review Source:I give this place 5 stars because I have NEVER been disappointed. We have eaten every roll on the menu and they're all delicious. We always ALWAYS start with a Tony Pasta (seriously order it, sometimes it can be spicy but just tell them how much you like spicyness and they'll adjust the sriracha to your liking!). Always sitting at the sushi bar I think the chefs recognize us now, and wonder if we'll be able to finish all the food we order (it's awesome).
Sometimes there is a line, sometimes there is a LOT of people in the bar area but that doesn't bother us, it's because it's such an awesome place, yeah! The waitresses sometimes don't fill our drinks as often as we'd like, but we aren't there for water, we're there for the food and if we need more water we just flag one of them down. Like I said, we have never been disappointed. We go there to eat the food and we're outtie!
So now that I like sushi...I actually want to try new sushi places! Â
For some reason or another Misaki has gotten a bad rap being right next door to the movie theaters in downtown Stockton. Â Apparently there is a long wait some evenings and people complain about the service. Â I had neither issue when I was here a couple of weekends ago. Â We were meeting friends to see a movie and the girlfriend and I decided to put our names in to reserve a table. Â To our surprise they were able to seat us right away! Â The rest of our party arrived and we ordered...the waitress was pleasant and helpful and the sushi was downright amazing. Â I want to say I got the Stockton Roll...quite tasty. Â
My only complaint, its in the middle of downtown Stockton. Â But it's still a great place to go...especially right before a movie!
:0)
Before our movie started and an hour early, we decided to enter this establishment for some sushi rolls. I decided to get their nigiri combo because its the best way to judge the freshness and quality of the restaurant's fish without all the special sauces and rice massing the taste of raw fish. The size of my nigiris were a bit above average size with a price that accorded to the amount. The fish was quite fresh and the slices of fish were good sizes. The sushi chef at the bar I was sitting at was very generous. He definitely knew what he was doing. I enjoyed my small meal but what killed this restaurants rating was their service.
When we were initially sat down we asked for a seat for two at a table and they automatically placed us at the sushi bar stating it was busy. As we proceeded towards our seat we noticed two to three open tables with seats for two. With all the people there and the waitress seemed like she was rushing us to sit down, I really didn't even bother to make my second request. When we were seated at the end of the sushi bar, my friend and I looked at each because we both picked up on an awful smell, looking around we noticed where it was coming from. The hostess seated us at the end of the bar which initially was not our request now they have us sitting right next to a trash can. The smell was awful. Imagine all the left over rotten raw fish mixed with a combination of warm beer sprinkled on top. I was disgusted. How can management not smell this? I asked myself. This is wrong and this is disgusting. Is this really the quality of dining they would expect for themselves? A huge black dumpster trash can only three feet away that has a odor range of ten feet. In all aspect, aside from the smell, visually is that really attractive. really is it? I don't want to be looking at a trash can while eating my food. The empty table seating we passed up that should of been ours had a better view of the trash can then the sushi bar. At this point, I'm not sure I was mad that I didn't get the table I originally requested.
More on service.
After getting my food my waitress ran off so fast I couldn't get a straw or a pair of chop sticks from her. I stopped another waitress and asked her for some chop sticks. She could tell I clearly had a food in front of me, you can't miss this large plate of nigiri. I just couldn't eat yet because I need my utensils. So slightly watching her in the corner of my eye because again I'm starving, she gets to the corner about three feet away from me, grabs the pair of chop sticks and stands next to that trash can and starts talking to another waitress with the chopsticks in her hand. It was so loud in this restaurant, I could barely even hear myself talk. So she's there, just chatting it up with her other waitress. and here I am saying excuse me but she couldn't even hear. Â Does she not realize I cannot commence eating my food unless I need that really important tool in her hand? come on! what is going on here. I know I didn't come off rude when I asked for chop sticks even though I had to speak louder because the overbearing screams of the music.
Our waitress disappeared after she gave us our food. No one came back to check up on us to ask how the food was and if we needed more water. And when we were ready, no one wanted to take our checks over to us. So we had to get up and walk to the counter to pay our bill. When we were getting up to walk to the counter to pay which was in the same direction as the exit. Look who finally noticed us? Our waitress. As we were walking up towards the counter, they rushed to us and looked at us like we were going to skip out on the bill. Wow making us feel suspicious and then finally returning to service us at the register. Best service in the world? hardly. This restaurant has been around for quite awhile now. and over the years, they should be able to adapt to the Friday night rush. With that, I cannot be understanding to the type of service that was provided to me and my friend that evening.
Sushi Chef. You are praised. Waitress. Your service is not. Management. You need to turn down the volume of the music, get rid of that eyesore of a trash can and staff more people on a busy Friday night. Why? Because your neighboring business next door is a Regal movie theatre that's why.
The Japanese would not call this sushi authentic at all. It is basically a North American take on sushi which includes a lot of cooked fish, tempora shrimp, cream cheese, and other fat American stuff. So whenever I come here, I order the cinema roll and tell the sushi guy or whatever you call him to not sear the tuna. It is the closest thing that I would consider real sushi but it does have avocado. If you eat along the sushi bar, your party will receive complimentary miso soup and etamone which is great! Despite it not being authentic, the atmosphere, which is in the heart of downtown Stockton, and the service is excellent.
Review Source:Ate here before going to see a hockey game. Â Wasn't expecting much but the service and food was great. Â I really have no complaints. Â However, I would be careful about ordering drinks from the bar. Â I had beer but my friend's candy corn cocktail arrived in two strangely sized, barely filled glasses.
Review Source:Wasn't really expecting much out of a sushi restaurant right next to a movie theater, especially when there were a bunch of homeless looking people hanging around right outside the restaurant, but Misaki turned out to be a pretty nice place.
We were seated pretty quickly. Our food took a little while longer than normal to come out, but no biggie there. I ordered the Sammi roll, and the gf ordered some Vegetable Udon. I was pretty happy with my Sammi roll. It was pretty delicious, and just that one roll was enough to fill me up. My gf was less than happy with her udon though, She thought that it was really bland, and the vegetables didn't add any flavor at all to the dish. Her fault for ordering vegetable udon in my opinion. That's like asking for a bowl of just water. Everyone else in our group seemed to e joy what they ordered as well, so I guess it gets a thumbs up from me.
Another thing that I really liked is that they split our checks without us even asking. Made it really easy for all of us to pay. One thing that I didn't like though, is the location of the restaurant. There is a bar inside here, and that combined with all the random ghetto people sitting at the bar made for some interesting sights and sounds during dinner. Oh wells, it's still worth it to come out here for the food.
This place has absolutely outstanding quality fish, much better than you might expect for a sushi bar next to a movie theater in Stockton.
Seriously comparable to anywhere in Sacramento. Â There are a couple of very tasty sashimi combos for lunch, and their specailyt rolls are also delicious. Â They really make an effort to be friendly and take good care of their customers.
Misaki serves the best sushi around! My favorite is the Mt. Fuji roll with cream cheese inside. This is making me want one right now.
Andrew, the manager is always friendly and helpful. He stops by our table and makes sure we have everything we want. He even bought me a drink and participated in our toast on my birthday. What a cool dude!
Tony and Eddie are my favorites behind the sushi counter. They're the best people you could ever ask for making the best sushi you could ever ask for! They're always welcoming and usually have something new for me to try ... even if I don't really want to. Funny though, whatever they recommend always tastes pretty darn good.
I can't say enough good about Misaki. They're awesome. I would come from out of town just to go there for sushi!
I work close to here, so I've mostly eaten here for lunch. At a lot of sushi places, the lunch service usually leaves me disappointed because it seems as if they don't try as hard. Not so with Misaki. The fish is good and I love the sauce they put on the rolls! The variety of sushi they offer is amazing, and probably the best I've seen in a sushi restaurant here in Stockton. Tons of rolls to choose from. They have a lot of traditional roll offerings that you see everywhere, but they offer the designer rolls too. :)
Service is hit and miss. Sometimes they're spot on and the food comes quick, other times I've waited a half hour or longer (for a lunch service, that's WAY too long!). There used to be a lady who worked every lunch who was fantastic!! Chatty and friendly and was always quick with the refills and such. Loved her. I haven't seen her lately though. The one time that I was here for dinner service, they were so incredibly slow I almost walked next door to Moo's and grabbed a snack. It was nearly an hour after we were seated that we got food. At the point where I'm waiting an hour for sushi, it better be spot on, or its just not worth it.
Negative one star because I once was violently ill for two days after eating here. However, given that it was once and I've eaten here several times over without incident, I'm willing to forgive. However, as others have noted, they need to watch the quality. I've been a little squeamish about ordering raw fish from here after that, so I stick to tempura rolls and such now.
However, overall, not a bad place and certainly a good place to go if you're downtown for a movie. Just make sure you have time!
So recently I have morphed into a vegetarian and have been finding it quite hard to find food of good quality that is not homemade. Sushi is up on that list. I came here with a group of friends (6 total) and we proceeded to order. I personally ordered a Vegetemp roll from the vegetarian list they provided. My friends had sake bombs (decently priced) while we waited for our food.
I was handed my roll and it looked great. As I began to eat though it was like trying to swallow plain sticky rice. The breading was falling off of the vegetables, which was also causing the roll itself to fall apart. It came with no sauce and contained no flavor (anything would have been good at this point, cream cheese for example!) Although this restaurant has a good atmosphere and is in a decent location I wouldn't recommend coming here as a vegetarian.
2 stars for location, prices and atmosphere.
So I am only going to comment on the service and the place itself. Not about the food. I didn't really eat here.
I wanted to give it 3.5 instead of just 3..
The place was packed when I got there. It is right next to the theater and it was a weekend night so that's no real surprise. Glad there were reservations and my group came ahead of time! We generally all sat together by putting some tables next to each other. The waitress was attentive to our party. Â I hope I don't butcher her name but I think it was Terra Marie? Any way, she regularly checked on us and made sure everything was doing well. Definite points for that. Since this was my friend's "last night out" before getting married, the owner ( I assume) brought him some shots! That was very nice of him.
I'll try to come eat here at a later time and hopefully give them 2 more stars based on their food!
Definitely the best place in Stockton for delicious, consistent quality sushi! The owner, Andrew is the nicest guy! He always takes his time to sit down with us and even buy us a Sake bomb or beer of our choice! Andrew is what makes this place have the best customer service - he will make sure you are happy with your meal! He really "works" the room to ensure the customers are satisfied. The girls that work here are sweet and kind. The sushi rolls are big and they do not skimp on the fillings or toppings. I have frequented just about every sushi restaurant in town and Misaki Sushi has the best quality and quantity for your money! Yum!!!
Grab a movie right next door to the downtown theater and eat at Misaki for dinner! A great plan!
Just be careful of the bums walking around - just say "No"!
I have eaten here about a dozen times so far. As I have expanded my experiences and palate with sushi, this place is starting to sink in its appeal. Â I notice when I walk through the door, a strong odor of old fish mixed with rancid bar spillage residue overcomes my senses. Â The service is okay, there have been times when I have been forgotten about and there have been times when they were on top of it. Â More times they have not been so on top of it.
As far as the sushi...I will eat it. Â It's okay. Â Most of the time the raw fish is smelly or tastes contaminated with other stronger fish odors. Â I don't think the fish is old, I just think the sushi chefs cross contaminates the fish with each other frequently. Â A lot of their rolls taste the same because they drown the specialty rolls all with the same kind of sauce. Â I will admit, their selection is impressive, but I like quality over quantity on any given day!
It's gets pretty loud and rowdy  at the bar sometimes almost to the point to where it makes me feel unsafe as if something is about to go down like a fight or a brawl.  I don't know about you, but I don't want to be worried about my safety when I'm trying to enjoy dinner with my family and friends.  Take out is the way I go now with this place, and thats if I'm in a pinch and need a quick sushi fix.
I would have to say that this is the best place to get sushi in Stockton for a couple of reasons (in no particular order):
1. Â Service/Owners
2. Â Price
3. Â Atmosphere
4. Â Variety of Good Sushi
I have NEVER had a bad experience and I've been here 20+ times.
I've had just about everything on the menu but would have to say that these rolls are my favorite:
-Stockton Roll
-Porsche Roll
-El Dorado Roll
-Hammer Roll
-Rock N Roll
The oyster shooters are absolutely TO DIE FOR and you cannot go wrong with a sake bomb... or two... or three.
Best part about this place- Â the owners. Â Super friendly. Â When they start to recognize you, don't be surprised if they stop to bring over a sake bomb... or two... or three... just because.
The service and atmosphere was perfectly fine but a restaurant should be held in high regard for the taste of it's food, which Misaki failed to do. I ordered the Nigiri Deluxe and there was nothing wrong with the fish it's just the rice wasn't sushi rice. There was no hint of sushi vinegar so I pretty much paid 16 bucks for plain rice and fish. So not worth it. Also my boyfriend had the Katsu donburi that was around nine dollars and it was this tiny little bowl, full of rice but only three pieces of meat ...... It also didn't have the soy sauce/sugar/mirin/delicious sauce that donburi is usually covered in. Just some cheap american knock off.
Over all the food was tasteless, at an expensive price. It's just another mock japanese restaurant that doesn't know how to cook real japanese cuisine. If your looking for a good japanese restaurant skip this place.
I went on a sat to order out. After waiting 40 mins, my food had not been made. Then I asked for a refund. T.T Took 5 mins to make my nasty roll. I had ordered the crabby roll and it was not tasty. The miso soup was the only good thing I ordered. The calamari had gone cold guessing from the delay. Honestly, never going back there again. YOU GUYS SUCK!!!!
(They were hosting a private party and made all of there customers wait. There excuse was "were hosting a private party" bleh! WGAFawk. Stupid people! Never ever going back here again.)
Location next to Movie Theater must be the only reason why this place stays open. The sushi is terrible! I could not believe the ratio of rice to fish in the rolls and they throw the same two sauces on every roll. The service is worse than the sushi if you can believe that! Every one that works there acts as if it is their first day. Â Don't bother ordering a "split" of sparkling wine which is on the menu, they end up bringing you a glass of chardonnay (that has happened to me twice, once 3 years ago and now last weekend). I give it two thumbs down. If you want good sushi in Stockton go to CoCoRo, Shogun or Raw.
If it was possible to give a no star rating I would.
One of the only times in my life where I have actually had to storm out of a restaurant.
My wife and I had the displeasure of attempting to eat here while the place was hosting a private party. Note to the manager, if you aren't going to serve your other customers, then put a sign out front saying you are closed for a private party.
We were seated, and then 10 minutes later someone asked us if anyone had been by to take our order. We said no, and they walked off. Several minutes later, someone took our drink order. At least 10 minutes later they brought our drinks, and apologized for the wait but "you see we have this party going on and...".
He took our appetizer and food order and left. We waited at least 20 more minutes, and seeing no wait staff in sight, no appetizers and no food, we put some cash on the table for the drinks and left.
I've been here at least a dozen times now with my parents before heading to the Thunder game.
The service is ok, sometimes they forget to fill your water. Â Other than that I go to the sushi bar most of the time and all the chef's are knowledgeable and helpful. Â
The rolls, they're ok. Compared to the more expensive Mikuni's sushi chain(which isn't in stockton), this is cheaper but most of the rolls are kinda boring. They have the same general ingredients, with options like deep frying it, which isn't really that great to me, or making it a bit spicier.
Overall it's not a bad place to eat dinner, none of us get sick here from the sushi like some of the other reviews are saying, but it's pretty bland/forgettable rolls.
I was out in Stockton last Friday visiting my boyfriend. We were near the downtown area and wanted something light. This was our first time at Misaki, he's never been there, but said he knows a lot of people that like this place.
Our waitress was really nice, friendly and attentive (not overly attentive, which was good). I took a little while looking over the menu. It looked like some of the rolls were very similar to each other, like the Smoked Salmon and this other roll. We ordered two rolls: Porsche Roll and Smoked Salmon Roll. When we got our plates, my initial thought was that they were dirty, since there were orange dots all over it, but they're not --- it was just the design of the plates, haha. I'll upload a picture. Both of the rolls were good. The Porsche roll had a lot of flavor from the bit of spiciness of the spicy tuna and the sauces on top of the roll. It really doesn't need soy sauce, maybe a little dab if you really want some. The Smoked Salmon roll was light, which is what we were looking for. We plan on coming back again sometime to try more rolls when I'm in that area again.
WARNING! FAKE JAPANESE FOOD. First off, be warned that this is a Chinese-owned restaurant. If people think sushi is all about the "rolls", THAT isn't Japanese. Good sushi shows itself through the quality of the nigiri, the freshness of the fish, how the rice is prepared and how the fish is cut. Imitation Japanese sushi usually blows it here first. The thickness of their fish was inconsistant showing a lack of skill.
Tempura was terrible!! They are using the wrong batter entirely and was overcooked. Â I asked for more daikon for the tempura sauce and was told they mix it with Ginger. What??? Â Teriyaki sauce was too heavy. Rice was served as a scoop in the dinner box, not in a separate bowl, another non-Japanese thing.
The miso soup is serves with a Chinese spoon.
While I was eating, as soon as 9pm hit, they started putting up the chairs on the sushi counter right next to me. While eating!! Â Talk about saying they want their paying customers to leave quickly. That should be done after the last customer leaves. Geez!
What a dissapointment!
Behind the relaxing downtown Stockton feel lies Misaki's chaotic, fast-paced atmosphere. Â Definitely a good place to hang on one of those weekend nights; comes handy with their own full service bar.
The food itself is alright. Â Nothing has honestly floored me in terms of flavor, but the service is always great! Â
All in all, if you want to drink and just eat some not-so-bad Japanese food, then this is the place for you.
The atmosphere is crackin.. its always packed. Â But if you want good sushi I'd go somewhere else. Â But if you want do drink, hang out, have fun and take sake bomb this is the place to be. Â I had some sashimi that wasn't so fresh so I don't go here too often. Â Service is good.. very friendly staff who greet you by name. Â I think they just need to up the quality on the food and it'll be a great spot.
UPDATE:
I've been back since my last review, sushi is more fresh. Â Their raw oysters are BOMMBY!! We go there just for that. Â Its the perfect spot to chill at while waiting for your movie to start.
My husband and I stopped here for a quick bite today before seeing The Grudge. Â In case you're wondering about the movie, it was okay... not as good as the first. Â I did almost piss my pants from fear a couple of times throughout the movie though.
But back to the restaurant it was very good. Â They were able to fulfill our order fairly quickly. Â I had the Sammi roll. Â Which was a shrimp tempura roll, with unagi, tuna and yellow tail... Â I think. Â Whatever it was, it was fresh and very delicious. Â My husband ordered the Hamaki Cama. Â It was a very tasty grilled fish, served with a nice green salad and dipping sauce for the fish. Â Oh, it was also served with a nice bowl of rice... you know, I have to have my rice. Â Even if I have to take it from my husband. Â
The service was very good. Â Our waitress brought me the incorrect drink but immediately saw her error and corrected it. Â It is a very nice and clean establishment. Â I made a point of visiting the restroom... you know how I am about toilets! Â And it was pleasantly clean.... Like I was the first pisser of the day.
We will definitely be visiting Misaki again.... being that it's right next door to our preferred cinema in town.
