No idea why it has some low ratings, but the food was great and service was A+! When you initially walk in you feel like your on a walking tour of historical buildings. You step back in time to the 1920's; while enjoying the historical architecture, the menu has simple soup, salad, and comfort food. Â This place definitely deserves a second trip.
Review Source:The atmosphere inside is unique, and a nice difference from the typical restaurant in town. The waiter was friendly and prompt. Â The menus had just been changed, so some of the items we were interested in while sitting in the waiting area were not available on our table menus. Â The water here is not filtered, so you are forced to go with a soda or lemonade - I wish more places in town offered the filtered water so more people could drink water! I ordered the quiche of the day (spinach & mushroom) with a side of fruit and I also received a side salad. Â The quiche was ok - I've had better, but the other diners at my table seemed to enjoy their choices (Miss Hattie's burger and the meatloaf special). Â I ordered light because I really wanted to try their bread pudding - only to be told that they were out and were not making anymore. Lame! Â The overall price for our lunch was kinda high for what you get, but the atmosphere is nice and it's a fun spot to take out of town visitors. Â I'd probably give them a try again - if for nothing else but to see if I can try that bread pudding!
Review Source:Love, love, love the food and atmosphere at Miss Hattie's!
We each got the Gouda tower and it was to die for! While it wasn't cheap, the food was certainly delicious.
I especially loved the salad dressings they offered. I had the ranch, while my husband had the sundried tomato. Both were exceptional!
To top off the meal, we split the chocolate creme brûlée. Wow. That's all I can say! The texture was incredible, and the flavor was absolutely excellent. I can't wait to go back!
Lunch today was less than great. Â My companion ordered a club sandwich which came without the advertised bacon and NO mayo! Â Also, it was served on not very fresh bread. Â All this for $8. Â Â When he complained, the waitress was apologetic and offered to get him another sandwich (but he was 3/4 finished with the club.) Â I had the Greek salad with chicken - $8.50. Â Â It was just okay. Â Don't think we'll go back.
Review Source:Had to drive to San Angelo for work today, and was famished by the time I rolled into town. Â Miss Hattie's was pretty empty this Tuesday evening (save for two groups of elderly folk enjoying each others company over dinner) which made for no waiting (hooray). Â Salad was served promptly and steak, veggies and baked potato quickly followed. Â The smoked mesquite ribeye was fairly large, tender and did indeed have the taste of mesquite. Â The one thing that stuck out was that the veggies tasted heavily of salt. Â If I would have known that I would have requested no salt. Â I don't need it to enjoy my food, especially not that much. Â Yes, I'd come back, and yes I'd bring friends. Â Considering this is my first ever trip to San Angelo in of, the last 20 years, not sure when that will be but ya never know!
Review Source:Considering this is a  "one of the nicer restaurants in town" I was highly unimpressed. My girlfriend took me out as way to say thank you for helping her with a project awhile back and we both agreed the money could have been better spent elsewhere. We should have known something was up when we came in a Friday night at 8 pm and the place was deserted.
To be fair they have a few things down pat; the tables and general look and feel of restaurant give off a good vibe, but that's pretty much where the good stuff ends.
The menus are impossible to read, terribly designed and in plastic sheets like the ones you used to keep notes in, in middle school. A place this nice could spend some money on nice leather menu covers.
Instead of having a nice custom music cd or XM radio on they were just playing the crappy oldies station here in town. (Nothing against the oldies, but when I go to a nice dinner I sure as hell don't want to listen to the crappy radio ads this town loves to produce).
Finally, the food was nominal. $14 for a plate of 3 crab cakes (which were delicious) the most boring salad of my life, a boring baked potato, and vegetables that had been cooked in some butter and covered with cracked pepper.
Last but not least, for being an old "gentleman's club" the waitresses were wearing crushingly plain servers uniforms. I'm not saying they need to be scantily clad by any means, but stark white shirts with black pants doesn't really fit the "Miss Hatties image" at all.
I loved Miss Hatties Cafe & Saloon. A few of us went for lunch and we all had a nice time.
Two of us had the Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Fried Okra and one had Grilled Chicken and Fried Okra. We LOVED our CFS meals and I was told the grilled chicken was good as well. We had the Chocolate Brulee for dessert which was delicious although not what we expected (more like a brulee'd chocolate mousse).
The service at Miss Hatties was great and the restaurant had that cool old timey feel to it. They walked me through to the bar in the back of the restaurant which also looked really cool. We followed our meal with a tour of the Bordello Museum which was REALLY interesting and fun.
Hmmm, welllll, walking in the restaurant wasssss interesting. Â It certainly had that old charm-ISH environment going on. There was no windows and it looked like I'd be dining with ghosts haha. I definitely felt pricey when I walked in there and when I saw the menu, I was kinda right. Â I mean it wasn't like $50 per plate but you'd think for the amount their pricing their dishes it would be at least good-the prices and the taste of the dishes didn't add up. Â You can make these dishes from home out of the boxes you get from the store for that you don't need to eat here.
I had the fried zucchini which were huge and I thought it was going to be deelish so I was excited...whomp, whomp, the batter was good-maybe could've been thicker. The zucchini's tasted funny and just wasn't like how I had fried zucchini's before so I know what their supposed to taste like. Â I ended up just scraping the batter off and eating that-boo! Â My husband had the meatloaf, he ate it, it was a good $12 portion-the taste was a bit on the salty side, so you might be ok if you like salty foods. Â Lastly, the dessert, we ordered creme brulee-like before, I've had this stuff-this was not the close to the creme brulee I've had...the only thing right was the caramelized sugar topping. Â This dessert is supposed to be lighter than flan-it was thick and cold =(...so that's that...the water was great! haha..
I'm not sure how the rest of the menu was but I think they would benefit from a real chef-at least a passionate cook. Â Everyone can cook but if you want to do it for a restaurant your food should reflect how you feel and this felt like "I'm just trying to make a living" food. Â I think the location and the dining area is good-just the food should match it.
She had the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and fried okra and it was awesome. Â The bacon cheeseburger was not so hot. Â The meat was fairly bland, but the bacon was crisp and tasty. Â Fries were good 7 so was the sausage queso with chips. Â
Service was acceptable, but the waitress was just a tad socially awkward and couldnt tell if she wanted us to leave or just was odd. Â The atmosphere was inviting. Â Interestingly, a lot of people walk in the door, look around, look at the menu, & then leave....Little pricey for what you get, but that is San Angelo for the most part.
This is a reallly fun place!
Located in a former bordello - an
old brick building with ceiling fans, Â comfortbale chairs,
and the tables nicely spread out to  give you ample elbow room.
A full bar with a good selection of beers.
Waiters were courteous and professional.
I had lunch here twice. The best meals I had in San Angelo.
Caveat . . . Â As my Dad says, " This is Baptist country ".
Even a saloon in an old whorehouse is Closed on Sunday.
This was my 3rd time here and I love it everytime. Â Walking in, you can smell the mustiness and sense the atmosphere of what occured here. Â Reading the history of men "doing their banking" next door, while the family went shopping....little did they know of the tunnel that existed between the bank and the bordello....this place oozes sexiness and forbidden acts.
Oh, ahem, we're talking food....love, love, love this place. Â Not only are the dishes creatively named over the characteristics of females and their offerings to their clients, the variety in what they offer is great. Â Texas monthly rated one of their hamburgers in the top hamburgers in Texas....
The lunch offers great combinations and the dinner was so tasty.  I ordered the lemon-herb sea bass with sauteed vegetables along with a tomato basil soup and side salad.  Delicious, succulent and full of  flavor.....mmmmm.
I successfully turned down the dessert....took a lot of willpower, but what can I say, summer is coming up and so are the bathing suits.... Â the waiter did make them sound absolutely sinful....but in a place like this.....oh, how appropriate.....
